Inline Citations

[edit]

Hey I'm just curious as to your thoughts on inline citations for provincial curling qualifications as I have done at 2011 Safeway Championship for Manitoba. It is my belief that as per WP:VERIFY WP:SOURCES and WP:IC that as much material as possible without over-saturation should be cited properly inline; so as to provide validity, cross referencing, and possible future material for editors to draw upon for red linked articles. Unfortunately I've had some disagreements with one particular editor who insists moving the references to the first introductory paragraph of the articles such as what has been done at the 2011 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts. While I'm not about to get into an editing war over such a trivial matter, I do believe that citations should follow Wikipedia guidelines and I'm looking for a third or even fourth or fifth opinion on the matter so I've come to you! Anyways please let me know your thoughts on the matter, whether to continue as originally cited or just remove them altogether as it no longer complies with Wiki formats. Cheers for now, Krazytea(talk) 20:39, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Bradgushue.PNG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bradgushue.PNG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. January 2011

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Stony Mountain Curling Club, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Phearson (talk) 00:36, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo requests

[edit]

Hi! Do you do photo requests?

If so, there are several photos in the Ottawa area (one in Hull, QC - one in Kanata, ON) that are needed:

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 05:08, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. Please let me know when you get the chance to do so! Also, I'll see if I have any photo requests in central Ottawa. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:12, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's great! I didn't even know the end-by-end scores existed, since they weren't on the World Curling results page. Never knew that they'd be in the newspapers. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 05:00, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How exactly did you calculate this, out of curiousity? I can't find the source of how to do these, and I can't figure out the math, either. - 142.166.95.83 (talk) 12:10, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose I should sign in if I want a response, shouldn't I? - Wmcduff (talk) 12:25, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I thought so. I still can't figure where the +14.7% came from. NDP gained 7.5% and the Libs lost 8.7% in Acadie—Bathurst which would 16.2%. Even if you subtract the Conservatives 1.7% gain, that's 14.5%. - Wmcduff (talk) 13:01, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, can't figure out where you got the 7.33 from on the swing this time. :) My best guess is that the NDP went to 69.69 from 57.53 (12.16% difference) and the Conservatives went from 18.54 to 16.20 (2.34% difference). The average for these two is 7.25%, though. NDP gain to second place comes out as 9% even. NDP, Conservative and Liberal changes divided by three is 7.51%... What is the formula again? - Wmcduff (talk) 14:31, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Riding articles

[edit]

Hey Earl, thanks for your work on federal riding articles. I am concerned about the commentaries that you have added to a number of articles (e.g., this one). Since you haven't provided citations to the reliable sources you are using, it will appear to some editors that you are conducting original research. Please keep WP:V in mind, and remember to add your sources. Thanks, Ground Zero | t 11:48, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you are a participant of the WikiProject Quebec.

The Outline of Quebec was created a few days ago and is under vigorous development. It fills a gap in Wikipedia's set of outlines. It is the 3rd outline to date about a Canadian province/territory.

Outlines form one of the subsystems of Wikipedia's contents navigation system. For more information on outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outlines.

The goals for the Outline of Quebec is to complete it to as high a standard of quality as possible, and to make it even better than the Outline of Saskatchewan and the Outline of British Columbia.

Once the Outline of Quebec is completed, it will provide an important example to others creating outlines for the remaining provinces and territories of Canada.

Please take a look at the outline to see if you can notice (and fill in) any missing topics. Pictures would also be nice (the rarer and the more interesting, the better).

Thank you.

  • Gatineau, Quebec:

    • Possibly some additional views of the Terrasses de la Chaudière (one could be specifically the Central Building and one could be specifically of the Jules Léger Building)

A tag has been placed on File:Quelng.PNG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ~~Ebe123~~ talkContribs 21:02, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Earl, I was about to move back the article to hyphen the correct title Port Moody-Westwood. And there was an error message not to move. And some user already move and use the incorrect type of dash, that is an en dash (–). All of the British Columbia provincial ridings uses hyphen symbols on every riding name for e.g. Vancouver-West End. Could you move the article "Port Moody-Westwood" to it's correct title "Port Moody-Westwood". The article Port Moody-Westwood uses small information and the article is a stub. No requested move needed. If you read my message, go to the Port Moody-Westwood article move it correct title. OK? Thanks. Steam5 (talk) 01:50, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article needs to be updated following Bonnie Crombie's victory, but I'm not sure how to properly clean up the article. Also, this seems to be the only ward that has a page on Wikipedia. Have the others been deleted? Thanks for your time. The Cake 2 (talk) 09:07, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
