Speedy deletion nomination of Patrick Quigley
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Patrick Quigley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Eeekster (talk) 01:23, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
deletion of article Patrick Quigley
[edit]Hi, just getting back to you on the deletion of this page. PQ is cited on Mark Jackson's page as the NBA star's high-school coach. I thought that was sufficient cause to include him, especially since there are numerous articles on high-school sports. PQ had a long career with an important Catholic brooklyn high school and coached in the prestigious Five Star basketball camp, which is also cited in several articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eponymous-Archon (talk • contribs) 00:50, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hi EA,
- The article you wrote on Patrick Quigley stated that he is a high school coach and an instructor at a basketball camp. The former high school coach of a professional athlete isn't notable. The guideline on notability for sports figures is here. Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 04:07, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Roman theatres
[edit]Hi, most Roman theatres around East Mediterrian are actually continiuation of the older Hellenistic theatres, ie, in most cases they were built by pre-Roman people. Does the list include those ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 15:40, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm working on the assumption that most were in use and also renovated under Roman rule (if not actually built then). If one is obviously Greek (and I suspect there are _very_ few of those, then I suppose I would leave it off. Even the theaters in Athens were renovated though. Does that make sense to you? We could also argue about calling this whole category "Roman" instead of Hellenistic, as you say, but there it is.) - Eponymous-Archon (talk) 23:43, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Roman Calendar and the Fasti
[edit]Hello. I'm impressed with the improvements you've made to the Roman Calendar page. I do, however, have a slight quibble. You state that there are no extant Fasti until after Augustus, yet you included the image of the Fasti Praenestini, the caption of which states that it dates from 60BC. Really there are two quibbles - if the Fasti are only known since Augustus, then mentioning them at all is inappropriate for the article about the pre-Julian calendar. Conversely, if at least one Fasti is pre-Julian, then the references to them dating to after Augustus should be rewritten.
Otherwise, excellent work. Silas Maxfield (talk) 10:45, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. You make a good point about the image. I was just re-organizing things and trying not to delete more material than necessary from the Fasti article, so I didn't even think about that (OK, really I'd barely read it). I'd rather approach this by deleting the bit at the start about this article doing just the pre-Julian calendar. Leave the Julian calendar section short with a link to that topic's article, but don't say that we're not covering it. What do you think, Silas?
- The Romulus and Numa sections need work too. They're totally fictional reconstructions by the ancients. Michels is good for this.- Eponymous-Archon (talk) 15:22, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Kings of Rome
[edit]I've removed it from the intro to shorten it. But I've put it in the list of kings, partly to emphasise their legendary status, which the reader may have forgotten about by the time they've read all the stuff in between. As for the destruction of records, I wouldn't expect that burning papyrus or parchment would leave much archaeological evidence, and I don't think it's disputed that the Gauls did attack Rome. And if the records hadn't been destroyed, we would know more about how many kings there were, and what they did. They probably weren't descended from gods and so on, but there would also be more plausible facts known too. (And there were plenty of ancient kings who did rule for 30 or 40 years, so it's not completely impossible that the more recent ones could have been real people.) I think the reader is entitled to some explanation of why so little historical information is known. Richard75 (talk) 19:42, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Sure, some burnt paper wouldn't leave much of a trace, but these were unlikely to have been written on anything paper-y. There's actually no archaeological trace at all of the alleged Gallic sack, which leads most scholars to conclude that the Roman account of it was exaggerated. Probably the mercenary Gallic army arrived, threatened the city and left after being paid off. Maybe with some gratuitous but minor damage. So this idea that all these records were destroyed in the sack has been downplayed in recent decades. - Eponymous-Archon (talk) 17:05, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Caudine Forks
[edit]Can you explain why it was necessary to remove the picture from the article Battle of the Caudine Forks? Kanjuzi (talk) 14:30, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Because it's not a picture of the battle described in the article. - Eponymous-Archon (talk) 14:30, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- True. On the other hand it is approximately the same century and region, and shows the armour of the period. Could it be used if a more accurate title was given, I wonder? Kanjuzi (talk) 04:31, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- It doesn’t even necessarily show a battle and the caudine forks weren’t a battle anyway. - 87.26.103.47 (talk) 06:14, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

[edit]ad hominem
[edit]I don’t see a reference to the translation of “ad” as “to” in the section on arguments from commitment, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to. If there’s a need to provide a further English definition for ad, it should be somewhere that’s not where the phrase “ad hominem” is described. I’m going to revert your reversion, unless I’ve missed or misunderstood something. - Eponymous-Archon (talk) 21:17, 28 March 2021 (UTC) Eponymous-Archon (talk) 21:17, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
19:17 Eponymous-Archon talk contribs moved page Talk:Foce del Sele to Talk:Heraion at Foce del Sele - I won't revert, but please DON'T do undiscussed moves like this. Among other issues this makes the article a good deal harder to find. Is this the WP:COMMONNAME? Rather doubtful. Johnbod (talk) 02:39, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Johnbod, just being bold there. This is indeed the common name of the site, and "Heraion" is the more important part. A quick search reveals the Wikidata page and the Italian version both have this name. The French and Finnish versions use "Heraion" without the place name, though the latter includes it parenthetically. The 1951 article in the references also calls it by this name (in Italian). The museum at Paestum itself calls it this in English. Recent work by Greco and La genera (not cited here) also call it that (in Italian and French, resp.). I can add a redirect from the old name. - Eponymous-Archon (talk) 13:41, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
