Unapproved bot running from this account
[edit]You appear to be running an automated script on this account. Please note that all bots should be approved at BRFA prior to running. In addition, the task you are running (typo fixing) is not something which we approve of bots doing, because of the number of mistakes which can be made due to lack of contextual awareness (as is well highlighted by your edit here). Please do not continue to run automated tasks on this account without getting approval at BRFA. - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:25, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Kingpin13, it isnt an automated script.
- I'm teaching Ferry how to use pywiki and AWB, and this was a limited test so he can become familiar with the way it operates on the big wiki. Next step will be for him to correct some spelling mistakes on Indonesian Wikipedia, and then document how it is done in Indonesian language so others can easily use these tools.
- I explicitly asked Ferry to attempt to do these spelling corrections to this set of pages (after I filtered out a few false positives), and I missed one instance where the replacement shouldn't have been made. In no way was this being unattended, nor was it large scale, and each edit was reviewed before and after it was made by two people. I just missed this instance each time. My bad; thanks for catching that one.
- These types of uses are explicitly not considered to be a bot, which is why I picked spelling mistakes as his first real use of pywiki (see Wikipedia:BOTPOL#Assisted_editing_guidelines).
- fwiw, AWB isnt set up at all on Indonesian Wikipedia, so it would have been useful for him to see how it works here first; the rejection from you is illustrative of the process I suppose. ;-). We'll approach the problem from another angle. Cheers, John Vandenberg (chat) 09:30, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- I would suggest a different edit summary from "Robot: Automated text replacement" in that case. In any case, best of luck with bringing AWB to id.wikipedia. If you do want to approve Fernando yourself, feel free to do so without consulting me. Although I would suggest a possibility might be to give him access but ask him to use it just in his user space. - Kingpin13 (talk) 16:21, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
