Explanation

The reason that PureTnA was on my personal page (Wikipedia:subpages) was that it had been deleted before, when it was actually on the main wikipedia. It seems that you've restored it, but you've included the talk page as part of the main article. If you know anything about PureTnA, please add it to the article, or it risks being deleted again. Thank you! Thedreamdied 21:29, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Hm, sadly i know nothing about PureTnA, i only added it because it was a missing link from Empornium. Also, was just looking at some of your contributions and realised you've been signing your posts incorrectly, preventing people from replying to you; this may help:

In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! Thedreamdied 17:15, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Ireland / Politics

What is the problem with the edits to the Ireland article, Politics section; . . .referred to by many people Northern Ireland as "The South" or "The Republic." ?

Edit Summaries

If you could, please use edit summaries; when I saw your archival on my watchlist, I assumed that such a large amount of removed content without a summary was vandalism. EVula // talk // // 22:04, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Personal attack

Please dont use revert technology to unroll a good faith edit. You treared me as if I were a vandal which is not acceptable. Besides you are wrong as AOL UK still xists, I should know as I work for them. Eg [1], SqueakBox 23:08, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

What you wrote was purely POV, you had no references, and UnCut is by no means known privetly as AOLs rip-off of YouTUBE. I am more then aware of AOL UKs existance as I actually do work for them, and have done for some time now. I used the revert system to its proper intention, to revert an unneeded, unreferenced, POV edit. Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver And The Vandal Watchman 03:08, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
uh? That is not so. My edit was this, that sounds like someone else's edit, ie this. Your reversion of mine to which I refer is this. If you work for ASOL we are on the same side, SqueakBox 14:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

References In A Box

Unless the references in a box format has been approved by the WP:MOS, please stop putting it on pages with lots of references (for instance, Moon). There's really no downside to scrolling a bit to see references (web browsers are good at scrolling), and if you put all the references in a box, they will no longer print with the article, which is in my opinion a significant harm. --jacobolus (t) 13:04, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

You know, instead of moving my message to "Finished discussions" within 2 days and otherwise ignoring it, you could consider responding. --jacobolus (t) 07:04, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
I could, but you made a good point, so I felt no need to, the only part of your statement I disagreed with was the final portion where you mentioned your opinion, but I'm too busy with something else to argue the point :)

Although I should point out that that was the first time I did it, some people have been doing it for ages, the References In A Box format has been on Michael Jackson for ages.
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 19:30, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Good point. I removed the box at Michael Jackson, and started a new topic at talk:Michael Jackson about it. --jacobolus (t) 06:37, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Ive changed the format of the same references to 2 columns, just to make it somewhat more managable, because there is a lot of references on that article

You realize that's what {{reflist|2}} does, right? --jacobolus (t) 13:21, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Yup, but this adds my own personal flavor too it :D. Nah in actuallity I was using the AOL Browser at the time, and for some reason it doesnt recognise the template, so I just automatically used the straight code, which does work.
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 15:01, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Well if there's some problem with the template, then it should be changed, instead of modifying individual pages: then all pages that use the template gain the improvement. Putting the raw code on the page is a bad idea because if the format ever needs to change, every such page will need to be updated by hand. --jacobolus (t) 15:58, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, like i said, it was automatic, I did it without thinking, just the way my head works, I work for AOL so I know what code its good and bad with :S

Saved pages

Hey Ferdiaob, in regards to your "saved pages" section of your user page, I encourage you to read Wikipedia:User page. While your user space is (for the most part) yours, please remember that Wikipedia is not a web host. If you want to move the pages to your own wiki, or a more appropriate, relevant wiki, I'll gladly ressurect the pages and give you the History (as is required by the GFDL). Excellent, are subpages like that aloud?
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 21:43, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
I don't see why not, it's not in article space, and it has not fair use images, so it should be fine the way it is. The only problem is updating both versions of the page at the same time.. Josephberte-Talk 21:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Well if they want to delete that well let them, either way your new version serves the purpose its there for
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 21:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, the new version only highlights major changes, the old version recorded everything, but if the new version serves it's purpose, then I see no need to keep the old version.. Josephberte-Talk 21:48, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
We'll see, right now all I want to do is make sure the page doesnt't get deleted, you keep improving the article, and I'll keep the debates in our favour:)
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 21:57, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
There are not enough 'deletes', I don't see it being deleted anytime soon...Josephberte-Talk 22:21, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
I made a complete revamp of the page, it is completely different than the previous version. Please comment! Josephberte-Talk 01:47, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Not to butt in here, but I just want to remind you guys that just because something isn't in the article space doesn't mean it's in the clear. Apple has sued for far less. Also, remember that deletion debates aren't votes—they're discussions. Can you tell me what's so terrible about transwiki'ing it to some other, more suitable site? You're free to work on it elsewhere, so I don't see what the big deal is. -Mysekurity 03:01, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, as you can see from the afd, I've re-affirmed my neutrality, while in my opinion, it seems perhaps not suitable for Wikipedia, I do think it can be a useful article on perhaps another wiki, hence why I revamped it for here or perhaps another wiki.. Josephberte-Talk 03:59, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Good call. I've changed my vote to transwiki. What do you think? -Mysekurity 21:28, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I think I may transwiki the page to the MacRumors guides http://guides.macrumors.com/iTunes , if the page is deleted, though I may keep this version, instead of the table format.. Josephberte-Talk 22:08, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
No matter what the outcome, I'm an admin, so I can revive it. If it gets deleted, I can pull up the history and give it to you to transwiki. Is this acceptable, Ferdiaob? -Mysekurity 23:40, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Not really, I don't see any reason to delete this, obviously I'll be moving the page if it comes to that, but it doesnt change my opinion that the article should stay where it is, cheers for the offer though, I'll take you up on it if worse comes to worse.

"iTunes effects more people then the ammendments to the united states constitution"

This isn't funny nor appreciated. Please keep your opinions to yourself, and hopefully learn to contribute positively to the encyclopedia in the future. Regards, Mysekurity 02:05, 25 September 2007 (UTC) P.S. As per my prior warning, I am nominating your "saved pages" for speedy deletion based on G-4 (see WP:UFY) and U-3. Let me know if you disagree with this.

copy of external discussion Thats not an opinion my friend, its a fact, there are more iTunes users out there then residents of the U.S, and go ahead, I finished transwiking one ages ago and iTunes Version History is here to stay from what I can see. If you have nothing better to do with your time then by all means, you go have fun.

"and hopefully learn to contribute positively to the encyclopedia in the future. dont dare attack my edits like that again, or we have trouble. I have never negativly contributed to this wiki.

My opinions are my own, I'll bring what opions I like onto Wikipedia, thats the point of a community. But as said, the constitution comment was no such thing.

Also, I dont archive unfinished descussions, I have no idea where you got that idea.
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 11:24, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I take it I've hit a nerve. Spelling and grammatical errors aside, the threat of "trouble" if I continue to disagree with your contributions is quite disturbing in its own way. It is clear you have no respect for policy, nor other users who happen to disagree with you. And to say that iTunes "effects [sic] more people" than the US constitutional amendments is not only wrong, it's also incredibly offensive. As for the comment on archiving, please follow the guidelines set at Help:Archiving a talk page. Archiving unfinished (or recently finished discussions) for no other purpose than to move them to a subpage tends to imply the user has something to cover-up, and goes against the open spirit of Wikipedia. Thanks for your understanding, Mysekurity 19:58, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
No nerve hit, and grammatical mistakes were due to the fact that it doesn't bother me in the slightest, and I didn't put much care into the responce. The trouble I refered to is one you know well, policys and guidelines, I think you'll find personal attacks is right up there, and saying I contributed negatively is one of them. I have respect for those who disagree with me, so long as they can debate they point, which no one did on the iTunes page. The comment I made isnt untrue, iTunes has millions of users world-wide, the U.S constitution affects a single country. As for archiving, I don't see how it emplys I have something to hide, as the archive is in full view. I do it for cleanlyness sakes.
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 21:06, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
I specifically refrained from attacking you personally. That said, the grammatical and spelling errors of which I wrote referred not just to this discussion, but in general (I take it you use Firefox--did you know version 2 and up have an automatic spellcheck feature?). Even the most forgiving estimates of iTunes users place the figure at around 200 million. Apple itself says it has 10 million users. By contrast, the United States has 300 million people, and a far greater number than that are affected by the Amendments. Josephberte and I were very accommodating in offering a compromise, and offered points that you either ignored, or answered with a completely irrelevant thought. Looking over your archive, I can see that this isn't the first time you've had trouble with other users. This is your last chance to make right and contribute positively before you are disallowed from editing. -Mysekurity 21:27, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
I never once ignored anyones points in that discussion, in fact I made a point to respond to everything relevant said. And I'm sorry but I'm not going to be disallowed from editing, so don't bother thowing around such an idle threat, even you admins have to justify your actions. I repeat, I have never negatively contributed to this wiki. I don't see the point of carrying on the iTunes/Constitution argument as its purpose is now served. And my grammer is just fine "in general". As for your compromise, that went against the exact point I was arguing, so why would I have accepted it?
Ferdia O'Brien The Archiver, Reformatter And Vandal Watchman (Talk) 23:11, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Olive Branch

In the spirit of not being a dick, and lest we end up on WP:LAME, I'd like to apologize for antagonizing you over the iTunes version thing. Hey, it may not be my way, but I lost fair and square. What do you say, can we bury the hatchet? -Mysekurity 03:51, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

We can indeed, I have to admit I was seriously considering sending you a similar message, and if the Amendments comment insulted you I'm sorry for that. As you can see I've met you half way on the Archiving thing, all my talks are in full display and I get to preserve the cleanliness of my page. Hatchet buried.

Hi. Is there any chance you could possibly do something about your signature? Just that every time I read a page on which you've commented, I find I have a sudden urge to rip my eyes out and throw them at the screen. Thanks – Gurch 15:53, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

List of the Day

I noticed you voted on the List of the Day proposal. A new one has been made and your comments are welcome. The Placebo Effect 01:46, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

LOTD experiment

You voted for one of my prior proposals to institute a List of the Day Proposal. I may have already alerted you to an experiment I am conducting at WP:LOTD. Now that the experiment is running I can point out the benefits to the project of the method I am experimenting with that other alternatives don't offer. First, there is a set of orphaned articles for persons who do not have any featured lists of their own or persons that would like to take responsibility for more. Anyone can nominate such orphans. This benefits WP by getting people involved in list articles that might not have active editors to update them or defend them against vandalism. Please consider adopting one of our orphans.

There are several other advantages that will improve the project:

  1. Each list will be encouraged to respond to commentary and feedback during the candidacy period, which will hopefully improve the quality of the articles.
  2. Articles without pictures will be encouraged to find them. E.g., List of Harry Potter films cast members had no image before its nominator added an image for this experiment. This type of thing, of course, improves the project.
  3. Articles are encouraged to add relevant projects to their talk page. This alerts other project to articles that they would likely have an interest in and would be able to either improve or protect.

Again come by and consider adopting one of our orphans this month or in future months either adopt an orphan or give feedback on the candidates.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:23, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

LOTD experiment

Now that my project is fully up and running, I though you might want to consider the four main benefits of my method over the one that you seem to be supporting:

  1. There is a set of orphaned articles for persons who do not have any featured lists of their own or persons that would like to take responsibility for more. Anyone can nominate such orphans. This benefits WP by getting people involved in list articles that might not have active editors to update them or defend them against vandalism. Please consider adopting one of our orphans.
  2. Each list will be encouraged to respond to commentary and feedback during the candidacy period, which will hopefully improve the quality of the articles.
  3. Articles without pictures will be encouraged to find them. E.g., List of Harry Potter films cast members had no image before its nominator added an image for this experiment. This type of thing, of course, improves the project.
  4. Articles are encouraged to add relevant projects to their talk page. This alerts other project to articles that they would likely have an interest in and would be able to either improve or protect.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:41, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Polite?

I'm not sure if I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here, but you seem to be attacking everyone, and threatening to block everyone. Calm down, give people more slack. Also, you yourself don’t take kindly to being critised by others or being threaten to be banned, and respond venomously. My message to you is calm down and stop getting carried away with any power you have. Of course, I may have got the wrong end of the stick, so if I’m wrong, my apologies.

P.S. having read the section about itunes, a change to the USA constitution also affects every tourist who enter America, and any business that imports or exports to the USA, or most countries political stance, so I don’t think itunes effects more people. Incedentially, a change to the USA’s constitution could potentially change itunes itself. Accept other people may have a point, no one can be right all the time. Random Raider ↔ (talk) 17:16, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok, well first I'm assuming it was a mistake that you posted that three times, so I've deleted the other two, and secondly I think in my entire tenure here I've threatened to report people twice, so yeah I think you have the wrong end of the stick tbh, and about the iTunes thing, I said that with full knowledge that it could be argued either way, which was the main point I was making by saying it. Check out the AFD entry for the article ITunes Version History for the context. Myself and Mysekurity did fall out over that discussion but that's water under the bridge now.
I take it that the other place you noticed me threatening to report someone is the discussion on the main page concerning possibly decorating the main page in the holidays. When faced with a user who's only rebuttal to an argument is to call me a "twat", I think I was quite polite in that instance. Ferdia O'Brien (Talk) 17:46, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Ah thats okay then, I'm glad you are not one of those people who get carried away with power (Y). And yes it was a mistake to post it three times, my computer froze. But if I may give one piece of advice is that you do come across quite...strong. It may be an idea to tone it down a little, even though in some cases I can see you are dealing with some absolute prats. For example, with the halloween discussion on the main page, there are several bits of evidence saying that it originated in Ireland, but some stating it originated with the original wave of celtic spread, and some say it is in fact part of the pre-celtic Europe religion. If you had not disagreed so strongly without backing your self up, you might not have been personally attacked so much.

Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Random raider (talkcontribs) 23:35, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Lol, no problems man, and I stopped the argument because I didn't want to turn a perfectly good suggestion into a flame war, not because I can't argue about my own country :). Btw, no need to start a new section just to respond (just a suggestions, don't take it like the guy on the main page did :), your suggestion about how I respond is duly noted in return;) Ferdia O'Brien (Talk) 01:59, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article List of Irish Colloquialisms, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello

Hello,

I noticed that you placed a tag on the page Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon about translation, and I hope you could help me.

I was not able to find a translation on the web, but I could translate it. Would that be good enough? Thanks, Horlo (talk) 07:50, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, yes and no. Your translation will be fine, but can I suggest you register yourself at Wikipedia:Translation to show some credibility for your translation? Also, if you can translate Ukrainian you could be of some assistance to that project, its a ghost town over there at the moment. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 07:57, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
I have translated "Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon".
Please let me know if that is good enough.
Thanks, Horlo (talk) 08:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey, yeah that looks ok (provided it is the correct translation of course), feel free to remove the tag now. Please consider what I said above, if you can translate Ukranian you'd be very useful to Wikipedia:Translation or Wikipedia:Local_Embassy. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 08:06, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of List of Irish Colloquialisms

A tag has been placed on List of Irish Colloquialisms requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article consists of a dictionary definition that has been transwikied and the author information recorded.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 08:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Lol, I love Twinkle, because of it I just notified myself of the Speedy Deletion of an article, that I tagged for Speedy Deletion. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 08:17, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Burma

On a personal note, please try to expand your horizons on wikipedia. Why would a 480 foot bridge in Myanmar not be as "notable" as a 12 foot bridge in the rural United States?? What this encyclopedia needs is to counteract systematic bias on wikipedia and whether new articles are fully complete or not, we need to put places like Burma, Cambodia, Laos etc on the map. Speedy deleting articles isn't the way to do it, particularly as it had an adequate infobox and details anyway and a main source. ♦ Dr. Blofeld ♦ Talk? 11:32, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Please don't presume to know me, I'd have CSD'd that 12 foot bridge, and AFD'd it if the CSD had failed, your article shows improvement though, so I won't be doing that. ~Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 17:34, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: your assertion

You falsely claimed here that I supposedly created the article Five Clicks To Jesus, which I've never heard about, much less "created" or touched. My list of created articles should certainly prove the contributions I have made to the project, so I am perplexed to why you would make such an incorrect claim. ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 02:33, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

That wasn't a false claim, that message was automatically generated by Twinkle, which referenced the page history and placed the message upon my AfD'ing the article. If you need proof I suggest you ask and Admin to check the deleted pages history, as it would not appear on any of your records having been deleted. Also, a list you created yourself, such as the one you linked to proves nothing. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 06:01, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't know how you've asserted that I created this article, but I certainly did not create this "article", and state so in the most equivocal of terms. If you persist in accusing me of doing so, then I must ask you to provide proof for these claims, as I have certainly never created such an article and am affronted by the suggestion that I might have. A quick look-through each of the articles in the aforementioned list will prove that I created each of the articles mentioned in the list and have substantially contributed to several articles, therefore what exactly do you mean by "proves nothing"? It certainly proves my history and track record at creating substantial articles on the project; simply accusing such an established editor of creating nonsense articles or partaking in vandalism is disregarding any sort of good faith and quite a serious and offensive allegation to make, in my most humble opinion. ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 07:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Again, the proof is that Twinkle automatically referenced the pages history and generated the note that was left on your page, which I had personally never visited as a result. You used the list on your page as proof that you hadn't created the article, proof that the list fails to provide because its self generated, if you like, go and ask an administrator to check the deleted pages history and they'll tell you the original contributer. If its not you, then I will happily submit an error report to Twinkles creators, but to be honest, its been correct thus far. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 12:09, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Twinkle is wrong. The article was created by Joeblow13 according to the deleted article history. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:28, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm...it appears there has been a bit of confusion all around here. Please see this to clear things up. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I'll respond on you're talkpage, but I have to say for anyone reading, I'm not altogether bothered about all this, mountains out of molehills gentlemen. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 01:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

NFL Season Templates

Ferdia-

Please see my response to your deletion request for the NFL season templates on the 1951 template.

Thank you, Fruminous (talk) 06:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Ferdia --

Please discuss your continued nominations for deletion of the NFL season templates on my talk page.

Thank you, Fruminous (talk) 06:05, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Sound, I only saw this when I had finished noming them. All retracted. Do me a favour and get them in use though pal, don't like seeing the Template namespace misused :). Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 06:06, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Ferdia-

Thanks for the retraction. I started adding them to the appropriate pages right away while you were still at work! I had put so much work into them, that I hadn't gotten around to putting them into place.

Fruminous (talk) 06:20, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Heh, yeah man, I thought someone had made them all for single articles and had abandoned them, I probably should've taken it up with you first though, but I go through the list of unused templates every so often and when I find batches like that I haven't yet heard from the creater at the nomination, let along by message. Sorry for my hastiness irrelevant though. Just a small point though, some of them have a lot of red links in them, some have majority red links, and Templates like that don't normally last. Just a little constructive criticism. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 06:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree with you about the red links. That said, the templates in support of a large community with a lot of work to do. (I've been the original author of about 80% of the Pittsburgh Steelers pages. Gonzo fan did almost all of the Packers' pages back to 1922.) Some of the older ones are going to take some time. The templates are going to help a broad group of people work together to get all the season pages named correctly.

I added the templates to all of the Packers pages to make sure that they would be referenced by at least one page each. I'll get around to adding them to all the other pages this week, as time permits. Sorry for any confusion that I created by not linking them earlier.

Nice, that'll get updated on Special:Watchlist in an hour or two. Good luck with the project man. Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 06:52, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
