Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. There is a lot to learn, and it can be daunting at first, so here are some links to pages that will help you to find your way around, get to know the most important policies and guidelines, and develop your editing skills: | ||||||||||||||

When you need to ask a question or seek assistance, you can visit pages such as the Help Desk, Editor Assistance or the New Contributors' Help page. They all fulfill different rôles depending on what kind of help you need. If you would like direct access to an experienced editor, you can join the adopt-a-user project or just approach someone directly via their discussion page. Remember to sign whenever you leave a comment by using four tildes (~~~~) or . Whenever you edit a page, even if the edit is minor, you should include a descriptive edit summary. I really hope that you enjoy being a Wikipedian and find it a rewarding experience. - Adrian M. H. 16:31, 22 August 2007 (UTC) |
Cheers Adrian, a lot to read, making my way through it and applying what I learn as I go. Figarema 17:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- I would be willing to offer adoption if you would like me to adopt you. Adrian M. H. 17:38, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Ah grand :)
[edit]I need to read on the accept process :-)
Also on uploading pictures, I found [1] under creative commons but I don't know If i can use them.
- If there is anything that needs to be done at the adoption pages, I can take of that later today. I can help you with that image question as well, indirectly, because this section of VPA (Village Pump (assistance) asks the same questions and has a better answer than I could give. Adrian M. H. 13:01, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I read about it and its a no.. ( I asked something obvious in the VPA *blush* ) I'll have to dig around more. As for the adoption, reading about it (may take some time...)
Figarema 13:43, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have updated the adoption userbox on your user page, which is all that needs to be done. Whenever you need some help with something, feel free to post a message for me. Adrian M. H. 21:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Copied from my talk page for future reference
[edit]Bit late getting back to you; apologies for that. These articles are quite good efforts in many respects, particularly in terms of factual content, neutrality, formal tone, and sourcing. There are some things that can be improved, some of which I initiated today in the Castillo de Salas article to start you off on the right foot. I created a quickly knocked together lead section out of the first paragraph (this may need some tweaks to fulfill its brief), adjusted some wikilinks (including those for weights and measures), fixed some typing and spelling errors, and tuned some of the syntax here and there. Speaking of weights and measures; this is one of the areas that needs improvement to bring it into line with Manual of Style. I also "Europeanised" the metric values (from meter to metre) because only the United States uses meter. Manual of Style and WP:ENGVAR are tangentially related to this. New Flame has an excess of bold words, most of which are capitalised as well; proper nouns of objects, events and so on can be italicised when necessary. See Manual of Style and Manual of Style. If you're ready to take it on, you could start converting your source refs to footnotes, for which I have a brief intro guide at the top of my second archive. You have a couple of red linked categories; these should be created if you intend to use them, but first read the guidelines about categories at Help:Category and Categorization. Also worth reading is the guidance at Categories for discussion, where unsuitable categories are debated. Well, I think I have covered everything for now. Post again if you want me to explain anything. Copied here for you to refer to easily should you wish to. Adrian M. H. 00:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- No worries Adrian, I'm finished with Castillo de Salas next to work on is New Flame, I liked the edits you did so I'll have a read about them and apply it to the other article. Once I got the stiles right, I'll re-visit the references (didn't realise that there were other ways of referencing :) ) Figarema 06:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Your refs on Castillo de Salas are spot on. Really good work there! Adrian M. H. 09:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Cheers, I've just realised that I might need to rename the to Castillo de Salas (ship), after all the ship is named after a castle. Since the conflict in name is just 2 things, I suppose it would be best to rename - how do I go about that? Then add a stub for the castle and link it from the title? As for New Flame, someone else has shown interested in it so we are both working on it, which is my 1st flavour to colaboration. I also "discovered" wikiprojects and joined those matching my interestest, but before getting more to do I wanted to give some "closure" to the other 2 articles. Still reading about the stiles - god there is a lot to take in :) –Figarema 09:50, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's easy actually; just press the Move tab at the top and fill in the new name and a brief reason (which will become the edit summary). Then you can add the {{for}} template, like this: {{for|the castle of the same name|Castillo de Salas}} to the ship's article and {{for|the bulk carrier of the same name|Castillo de Salas (ship)}} to the castle's article. See WP:DAB for more info. Certainly lots to learn! Adrian M. H. 11:04, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent feedback as usual - it's done ;) - I even added a fairly decent page on the Castillo de Salas (castle). A tad hard to find English references. - Figarema 09:20, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Good work again, Figarema! Just a few spelling and grammatical errors, which I have fixed. Don't worry to much about foreign-language reference sources; they are permitted whenever an English source of equivalent value, reliability or relevance is not available. At the end of the article, it says "....during X century in Spain" - did you mean the 10th century? I left it unchanged in case you had a different intention. Adrian M. H. 10:11, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I looked at the history to see what little mistakes I did. RE: x century, I looked up the date guidelines and changed it. Re: ref, well even if I find a half-useful one in English I throw it in too, I just don't like to put use the language barrier as a shield. Btw you must be doing something right, I just got my first barn star :) - Figarema 11:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Hello, and thank you for your message. You had yourself a very good start to the article; all I did really was refine it with some minor edits - for instance formatting, copyediting and various other manual of style orientated changes; otherwise it is coming along very well. It is also good to see that you made use of citation templates (e.g. {{cite web}}, {{cite press release}} etc.). Because although they are not mandatory, they make the article appear far more neat and organised. I also moved (renamed) the article from New Flame to M/V New Flame to differentiate it as a cargo ship, and added a short introduction (or lead section). In any case, keep up the good work! -- Chris.B 10:35, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!

Spain's interim prime ministers
[edit]Figarema, thanks for taking a look at the pages Torcuato Fernández-Miranda and Fernando de Santiago y Díaz. I'm the primary author of them (so far ... there's still a lot that others could add) and most of that text is translated from the Spanish Wikipedia. I enjoy learning about Spanish history but I'm nowhere near "lengua materna" status with castellano yet, so I appreciate having a native speaker double-checking for me. WP:SPAIN is a great project. I hope to see you around more often. Cheers! ``` W i k i W i s t a h ``` 23:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
The article Madrid you nominated as a good article has passed , see Talk:Madrid for eventual comments about the article. Well done! Pursey 05:07, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
RuBee and Signing
[edit]Figarema - thanks for fast reply - I did six points with headings for each - I did sign but at bottom of all six - should I sign each heading ? Thanks Jkmstevens 15:06, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi John, well it would have helped, don't worry about it now. I see that this time you got the hang of it ;) By default, anything you say in a talk page, sign it and any for any edit that you do, fill in the edit summary with a quick description. If want to know more about how to use talk pages: Wikipedia:Talk_page. I'll keep an eye on the article and even do an edit here and there when I got some time. Go for the adoption process, as you can read above Adrian has helped me a lot! --Figarema |Talk 15:11, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Flag of Asturias
[edit]Anonymous user 85.152.210.52 keeps changing the flag, what are we suppossed to do ?--Banderas 11:58, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you can give me some background info, I'll look into it. Adrian M. H. 12:25, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi guys, its in Talk:Asturias, i reckon you would need to source the claims. Why Banderas think is it one and not the other, once the point is prove ( get some references to prove it?) then the IP editor better talk up or shut up (and consider it vandalism there after?). I don't think this page is perhaps the best source, but it does point to good places? --Figarema |Talk 13:22, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:08, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
