Tenofovir

I've moved the second image into the Drugbox. To change the caption, you have to add the | imagename = parameter to the template, in the edit window—anywhere between the opening and closing brackets {{ }} is fine, but I prefer just below the | image = field. Have a look at the code in tenofovir's edit window for a "live" example. Best, Fvasconcellos (t·c) 01:43, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Hoffmann La-Roche

Your undoing of the changes to the Hoffmann La-Roche page were not necessary. The use of the Roche in Hexagon logo is disputed by the owner of the trademark. Also, the inclusion of an external link to a purely commercial website is inappropriate under the Wikipedia Terms of Use. I will revert the page accordingly. I am trying to gauge what the interest would be for a WP:ONCOLOGY category. This would be under the broader auspices of WP:MED, along the lines of WP:RENAL and WP:Rads. It would address standards of care and best practices in surgical, medical, and radiation oncology, along with maintaining and editing cancer related articles.

Flu pages

Thank you very much for your efforts on the flu pages. I need to edit wikipedia less and am no longer maintaining those pages. But I do look in every now and then. It is my understanding that "avian flu" refers to the serotypes of all known subtypes of the influenza A virus that are endemic in birds. The word "subtype" with regard to influenza A is used to refer specifically to the H?N? categorization, and any specific subtype can have a variety of strains or serotypes that are endemic in different species. For example, the influenza A virus subtype H3N8 has different varieties/strains/serotypes endemic in dogs, horses, and birds. Of course, by definition these subtypes can also be called varieties/strains/serotypes; but they usually aren't called that by the experts for the sake of clarity and precision. While http://jvi.asm.org/cgi/reprint/71/8/6128.pdf is a bit out of date with some of its claims, it does give a good feel for the subject. WAS 4.250 16:53, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Virus classification

Howdy, good update on virus classification. Do you have a reliable source that could be cited for that or other material in the article? The article is woefully undersourced, so even a reference for a single virus family would help! -Agyle 03:32, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Virus template

Hi, I thought about this before I added to it. The template was already a bit of a mixture. For the Hepatitis section it could be the names of the disease or the virus because they are the same. Under "skin" some viruses are listed i.e. Herpes simplex (the diseases are genital herpes, coldsores, herpetic stomatitis etc); Herpes zoster, (the diseases are chickenpox, shingles, neonatal zoster etc.) Again measles is the name of the virus and the disease, same with mumps. Cowpox, molluscum contagiousum and vaccinia are the names of viruses too (in fact, vaccinia is not a disease at all). At the bottom we have cytomegalovirus by itself, (the diseases are CMV retinitis etc.) If we stick to diseases apart from changing some of the above, we would have to include: rotaviral gastroenteritis, astroviral gastroenteritis etc., which I think would look a bit of a mess. What do you think? Best wishes GrahamColm 19:12, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Friendly question re- "outside of statistics" here[2]

Dear Sir,

I am the creator of the wiki page of Donald Geman. I am his student and was not aware about the issue of conflict of interest before I saw it.

I think it is a bit unfair to say that the article has a non-neutral voice. All the thing I wrote are verifiable using the references: you can check ISI highly cited program, your gibbs sampling wiki page and google scholars to find out that the paper Geman & Geman is cited over 7000 times. Most parts of this article is just gathering of other websites.

I hope this issue can be resolved very quickly.

Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by DGemanWikiPage (talkcontribs) 19:36, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi G716 - just wondered why you made the changes you did to {{Statistics-stub}}. Stub templates generally don't have separate /doc files - any links to WikiProjects go in the category, not in an add-on to the template itself. Also, re: an earlier edit of yours to the template, the stub category is never, ever, hidden by includeonly tags. Grutness...wha? 00:36, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi again - you wrote:I wasn't aware of the rule not to have a /doc page for stub templates. Also, the cat was inside includeonly tags, not inside the noinclude tags. Why include the template itself in the category?
It's not a policy, but it's something that isn't generally done (I don't know of another stub template which has a /doc file, and I've been stub-sorting for a long time). In general there's no real use for them - all they would ever contain is interwiki links to other language equivalents and WikiProject-specific template categories, each of which is very easily noincluded out. Any links to WikiProjects, as I noted, are kept to the category wherever possible, rather than the template.
I did write includeonly, as you can see above (though I initially wrote noinclude then immediately corrected myself). The reason this is done is to make it easier on stub-sorters - there are numerous reasons for it, but one of the most important is that it makes it instantly possible to check that a template and a category are correctly paired together, simply by looking at the template (it saves a lot of time if you're having to check a hundred templates if you don't have to open each of them up in an edit window to see whether there are includeonly tags). Another reason is to check what templates actually are in a category - which is very useful when it comes to splitting large categories containing several upmerged templates. Grutness...wha? 01:00, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Done - thanks :) Grutness...wha? 08:14, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Tagging math pages

I noticed you tagged a few talk pages with the {{maths rating}} template. Would you mind following up on that by filling in the importance parameter in the templates? There is no need to tag math articles just to say they are mathematics articles; we already have a List of mathematics articles that does not require any talk page tagging. If you don't fill in all three parameters when you put the template on a talk page, someone else has to spend time cleaning up the pages you have tagged. — Carl (CBM · talk) 21:07, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. Your point is well taken, but I don't tag articles to identify them as math articles. The Statistics WikiProject relies on the Mathematics WikiProject (and your bot) to handle quality assessments. I tag new statistics articles with {{maths rating|field = Probability and statistics}} so that they are shown here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mathematics/Wikipedia_1.0/Probability_and_statistics. I can assess quality (stub vs. start) but I don't feel comfortable assessing importance for articles that are outside my direct field of expertise. Regards—G716 <T·C> 23:56, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Correlation

Hi, I don't agree with this: that algorithm is a good, fast and numerically stable one. I believe it is important to keep it, the algorithm should definitely be part of the article. Furthermore, a pseudo-code can be implemented and works in all languages.

It is important to distinguish a formula which defines what a mathematical concept is from the algorithm that tells you how you compute that particular mathematical concept in a practical way. A formula is expressed by an analytical expression; an algorithm is expressed by a pseudo-code (in general, you can't express an algorithm as a formula).

category Statistics

Just curious. Category:Statistics reasonably has Category:Probability and statistics. That category has both Category:Applied mathematics and Category:Mathematics of computing. You added "Applied mathematics" to "Statistics", but did not add "Mathematics of computing". Adding "Applied math" to "statistics" would seem to be redundant clutter, given the obvious tree. Not adding it to "Math of computing", given that you did add to "Applied math" is even more confusing.

Why does "Applied Math" need both "Probability and Statistics" and "Statistics" subcategories?

Why doesn't "Math of computing", give that it also has subcategory "Probability and Statistics", also need subcategory "Statistics"? 69.106.246.15 (talk) 01:50, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Categories are not intended to be a tree system, so it's ok to have a cat that is a sub-cat of more than one cat, and it's ok for the parent cats to be related to each other. (See here) The purpose of assigning sub-cats is to make navigation easier for the reader. I think that having Category:Statistics in both Category:Probability and statistics and Category:Applied mathematics is ok, even though those two latter cats are parent/offspring to each other. I don't know much about Category:Mathematics of computing so I didn't add. I think that, in moderation, over-categorization is better than under-categorization, because we, as editors, never know where a reader would like to go next, but we need to help him/her to get there. Just my 2 cents. —G716 <T·C> 03:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Ummm, categories are not required to be a tree system, and trees can intersect in curious ways but trees do organize knowledge. You are correct in that, in general, anything goes, it's what servers the reader best. I happen to be at the other end of the scale: over categorization hides things, it especially hides/obscures organization, the reader can't find what he wants hidden amongst all the excesses and can't repeat a path to get there a second time. I had to draw a picture of this (Statistics, Applied Math) area just to figure out what was here. Thanks for responding, 71.135.170.231 (talk) 05:39, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Occured to me that you might be surprised to see what I've done at Category:Application software. Did that so that people trying to categorize application software could quickly see most existing categories, but it also lets readers go directly to a category. That was done a few years ago. Thanks again, 71.135.170.231 (talk) 07:35, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Nice! Did you know you can display category trees:
Click on the "+" to expand. Also you may be interested in List of mathematics categories. —G716 <T·C> 07:50, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but that still has you paging and choosing which tree to go down. And you have to explore subtrees to see what's there. Setting depth=.. requires even more vertical paging. I designed the layout for Application software so that each category appears only once (exceptions are always possible). "Statistics" is there only once. "Spreadsheets" are there only once, in the business section, even though they are also in the Mathematics tree. So the Application software page displays all categories at least once, but not the subcategory structure and is thus very concise (doen't even display full names for most categories). I should post a comment to categorytree suggesting an optional layout for them. 69.106.246.15 (talk) 18:32, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

TfD nomination of CIA attribution templates

Nine CIA attribution templates have been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 22:26, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment here. It's nice to know that my work is appreciated. Truth be told, I've been doing a lot of this out of boredom. I'm currently unemployed (again) and my father has been in the hospital, so I've basically been alternating between visiting him in the hospital and sitting around the house, surfing the net and listening to music. --Eastlaw talk ⁄ contribs 23:04, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Updated draft at WT:PHARM:CAT

Environmental lists

Good work on cleaning up the environmental lists. I have been away from internet access so I could not get to help out much. Cheers. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 04:26, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! List of environmental topics is still a mess - a catch-all for anything even remotely related to "environment". —G716 <T·C> 12:11, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

USGov cat cleanup

Thanks for cleaning up all of the categories for the templates that rely on {{Include-USGov}}! —hike395 (talk) 04:15, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm trying to get the number of articles in Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from public domain works of the United States Government down to a reasonable number - it was over 9,000 a few days ago - so I'm adding a number of subcats. Cheers —G716 <T·C> 04:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Category tree

Category tree

How do I get this code snippet to list subcategories alphabetically: <categorytree mode=categories depth=1>CategoryName</categorytree>, such as here. Thanks—G716 <T·C> 14:53, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Erm. I think it does, doesn't it?

<categorytree mode=pages>Wikipedia_articles_incorporating_text_from_public_domain_works_of_the_United_States_Government</categorytree>

...gives...

Do you have an example of the problem?

I won't be 'watching' this page, so either drop a note on my talk page, use another {{helpme}}, or talk to us live. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  21:39, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Pharmacies

Add a hidden comment not to add redlinks and external links - and police that criteria. Also add in the comment that source material in the form of external links are available in the history before May 1, 2009 for those wanting to create new articles on national pharmacy associations BEFORE adding them to the list.

Thanks for doing it!

Thank you for your recent edits to the main page and talk page! Best, Btyner (talk) 21:32, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks to you as well! It's looking pretty good, although I wish we could find some snazzy pictures like some other portals have.—G716 <T·C> 00:26, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

New CfD

I have proposed a new CfD concerning a derm category. Basically, I want to start using the term "cutaneous" instead of "skin" for most derm categories. Would that be ok with you? See: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2009_May_21#Category:Chronic_blistering_skin_conditions. ---kilbad (talk) 23:33, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for all your work on the derm task force. —G716 <T·C> 00:26, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Would you mind sharing your thoughts about the term "cutaneous" instead of "skin" at the CfD? ---kilbad (talk) 21:03, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Looking for help adding photos

As you are probably aware, I have been working on the List of skin-related conditions, and wanted to know if you would help me add more disease thumbnails to the list? ---kilbad (talk) 00:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Sure - do you have a plan in mind, or do you want any help we can give?—G716 <T·C> 01:46, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I am shooting for anywhere from 1 to 3 thumbnails per section of the list, depending on the size of the section. ---kilbad (talk) 12:05, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
OK - I'll take a crack this w/e —G716 <T·C> 01:42, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Singular

I have moved spaghetti plots to spaghetti plot. WP:MOS prescribes the use of the singular in article titles except when the article is about a set of things identified only by the plural of the term for those things (e.g. Maxwell's equations). Michael Hardy (talk) 16:02, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Nice find

I noticed an article you moved from an abandoned user account's space to the main namespace. Nicely done.

I've renamed it to Outline of probability to match the rest of the set of outlines on Wikipedia.

I've also added a link to it to the OOK and WP:PROL.

If you have any questions about outlines or their development, please feel free to ask me on my talk page any time.

Keep up the good work.

P.S.: WP:WPOOK is looking for members who are interested in the development of Wikipedia's Outline of knowledge (the set of all outline articles). -TT

Thanks for your note. —G716 <T·C> 02:20, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

No it does not get promoted, unfortunately, without support. We'll have to wait, and/or find some other places to place neutrally worded notices. Cirt (talk) 05:38, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Stub

Hello G716,

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

You can view the full list of stub types at WP:STUBS.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks!

Additionally, if you're using a tool that adds just {{stub}} to pages, please don't.
Ω (talk) 03:58, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Wow - that's a lot of stubs —G716 <T·C> 04:05, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

yes, yes it is. Which is why the stub sorting project exists, and why we tend to crawl all over anyone who uses a plain {{stub}} template! ;)

English tense

You wrote "you are at it again". In English, the past tense is expressed "you were at it again".Kiefer.Wolfowitz (talk) 09:40, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for expressing irritation. I didn't know about the rule, when I broke it and didn't realize that it extended to the talk pages. I have redoubled my resolution "to go and sin no more"! I welcome your edit on the talk page, which restored the supporting evidence of my butchery, in a nicer formatting.
Sincerely,

We've been cleaning this up.

What else needs to be done to it?

Please answer at Talk:List of topics related to Black and African people#Clean up. That's where the discussion is.

Thank you.

Proposed deletion of Salt therapy

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Salt therapy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Possible neologisms, no reliable sources, fails to meet notability

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. LexCorp (talk) 23:39, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I think you put this notice here by mistake. —G716 <T·C> 02:05, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

I noticed that you've given your two cents on the article at Talk:Aces and eights (blackjack)/GA1 back in June. I decided to take up reviewing it, and I ended up fixing up the article a lot. I guess I'm no longer an impartial observer, so could you review it and determine whether it should pass? Thanks. -- King of 00:27, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
