Thanks

Thanks for your persistent efforts to rid my talk page of repeated vandalism. AIV is backed up as it often seems to be on Saturday night, giving free reign for extended periods of time to vandals. It can be frustrating when a vandal can get away with repeated vandalism for much longer than usual, especially when it is to one's talk page. That yellow banner on Huggle can be annoying when one knows why it is there. Thanks again. Donner60 (talk) 04:00, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

@Donner60: No problem. We watch each others' backs. General Ization Talk 04:01, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
Thank goodness for that. Donner60 (talk) 04:02, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

You edited an edit, on Yahweh, why?

Do you disagree that Israelites distinguish themselves from Canaanites by 11 generations of heritage? And that ancient Canaanites distinguish themselves from Israelites? The term Canaanite is a primarily biblical term used to describe inhabitants of the Levant before the Israeli conquest And if memory serves, it was a Canaanite tribe that first described descendants of Terah as “Hebrews” (wonderers, travelers, foreigners, nomads) So we have a term “Canaanites” that has its primary sorce from biblical texts (see the wiki page for canaanites) And we have that biblical text differentiating Israelites from the Canaanites And we have the Canaanites differentiating themselves from the Israelites in the same text But you wont allow an edit explaining how the very text that we recieve the terms “Canaanite” and “Israelite” differentiate them

Also, who is it that believes the Israelites were originally Canaanites The very next sentance on the wiki page makes the theological distinction between the two people groups And on the Canaanite wiki page, there theology is there defining factor (search Canaanites in google and the first wiki page to populate is about the pantheon, not their geographic location)

Words matter, and these words have a source, and that source makes a specific differentiation between “Canaanite” and “Israelite”

The wiki page is wrong by any measurable standard

Im confused, are you saying that because i dont have a username, you reverted the page? Thats a terrible standard , how about we edit based on the validity of the information

And i assure you, the edit and comment were made by the same person, me — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1003:B44B:AD60:457C:442F:6AA7:BB34 (talk) 21:05, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

No; that's not what the message I left on the IP's page says, is it? Read the message I left there. The information you quoted is included on any IP's Talk page. It has nothing to do with the warning I posted there. You know, instead of attempting to cite obscure bi laws of wiki to new users, you could actually explain the system and help people get good information on the site Instead you lead someone who has better information than that presented to instigate a dispute resolution on their first day of attempting to edit bad information

Also, if you see the source, which i know you have because you delted it twice from your talk page and site another users page that it was listed on, and its in my description of the events that transpired, and the source is legitimate, why are you still fighting this??

Its a contentious statement and all i aksed was that it be worded differently for the sake of accuracy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:803:C401:BA88:E19C:9060:17AC:80EF (talk) 03:02, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – May 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2018).

Guideline and policy news

  • The ability to create articles directly in mainspace is now indefinitely restricted to autoconfirmed users.
  • A proposal is being discussed which would create a new "event coordinator" right that would allow users to temporarily add the "confirmed" flag to new user accounts and to create many new user accounts without being hindered by a rate limit.

Technical news

  • AbuseFilter has received numerous improvements, including an OOUI overhaul, syntax highlighting, ability to search existing filters, and a few new functions. In particular, the search feature can be used to ensure there aren't existing filters for what you need, and the new equals_to_any function can be used when checking multiple namespaces. One major upcoming change is the ability to see which filters are the slowest. This information is currently only available to those with access to Logstash.
  • When blocking anonymous users, a cookie will be applied that reloads the block if the user changes their IP. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. This currently only occurs when hard-blocking accounts.
  • The block notice shown on mobile will soon be more informative and point users to a help page on how to request an unblock, just as it currently does on desktop.
  • There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in June. This will cause the block of a logged-out user to be reloaded if they change IPs. This means in most cases, you may no longer need to do /64 range blocks on residential IPv6 addresses in order to effectively block the end user. It will also help combat abuse from IP hoppers in general. For the time being, it only affects users of the desktop interface.
  • The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team will build granular types of blocks in 2018 (e.g. a block from uploading or editing specific pages, categories, or namespaces, as opposed to a full-site block). Feedback on the concept may be left at the talk page.
  • There is now a checkbox on Special:ListUsers to let you see only users in temporary user groups.
  • It is now easier for blocked mobile users to see why they were blocked.

Arbitration

  • A recent technical issue with the Arbitration Committee's spam filter inadvertently caused all messages sent to the committee through Wikipedia (i.e. Special:EmailUser/Arbitration Committee) to be discarded. If you attempted to send an email to the Arbitration Committee via Wikipedia between May 16 and May 31, your message was not received and you are encouraged to resend it. Messages sent outside of these dates or directly to the Arbitration Committee email address were not affected by this issue.

June 2018 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2018 News

Welcome to the June 2018 GOCE newsletter, in which you will find Guild updates since the February edition. Progress continues to be made on the copyediting backlog, which has been reduced to 7 months and reached a new all-time low. Requests continue to be handled efficiently this year, with 272 completed by the end of May (an average completion time of 10.5 days). Fewer than 10% of these waited longer than 20 days, and the longest wait time was 29 days.

Wikipedia in general, and the Guild in particular, experienced a deep loss with the death on 20 March of Corinne. Corinne (a GOCE coordinator since 1 July 2016) was a tireless aide on the requests page, and her peerless copyediting is a part of innumerable GAs and FAs. Her good cheer, courtesy and tact are very much missed.

March drive: The goal was to remove June, July and August 2017 from our backlog and all February 2018 Requests (a total of 219 articles). This drive was an outstanding success, and by the end of the month all but eight of these articles were cleared. Of the 33 editors who signed up, 19 recorded 277 copy edits (425,758 words).

April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 15 through 21 April, focusing on Requests and the last eight articles tagged in August 2017. At the end of the week there were only 17 pending requests, with none older than 17 days. Of the nine editors who signed up, eight editors completed 22 copy edits (62,412 words).

May drive: We set out to remove September, October and November 2017 from our backlog and all April 2018 Requests (a total of 298 articles). There was great success this month with the backlog more than halved from 1,449 articles at the beginning of the month to a record low of 716 articles. Officially, of the 20 who signed up, 15 editors recorded 151 copy edits (248,813 words).

Coordinator elections: It's election time again. Nominations for Guild coordinators (who will serve a six-month term for the second half of 2018) have begun, and will close at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible, and self-nominations are encouraged. Voting will take place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June.

June blitz: Stay tuned for this one-week copy-editing blitz, which will take place in mid-June.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Corinne, Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Reidgreg and Tdslk.

Question about your revisions

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Why did you revert three of my revisions on User talk:Kavrocks88 (removing the heading that I added and removing my post entirely)? You also removed Ad Orientem’s (an administrator) heading. Interqwark talk contribs 21:57, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

@Interqwark: Because a) your level 3 warning was irrelevant, as the user had already received a level 4 warning and was queued to be blocked (and was blocked when you attempted to restore it); and the heading under which all previous warnings and the block notice were posted were just fine without your addition to the Talk page. There is no need to include the day of the month in the heading (and in fact it is best to not do so, as warnings are cumulative by the month, not the day -- your format will especially confuse ClueBot). General Ization Talk 22:00, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I was going to warn the user before you did. Even if it were redundant, I’m fairly certain you can’t just remove my post (WP:TPO). I also don’t think you can remove the heading to someone’s post. You removed the heading to the post of an administrator. I did not add that heading. Interqwark talk contribs 22:03, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
If you think it's important, bring it up at WP:ANI. Personally, I don't think it's worth either of our time to do so. General Ization Talk 22:04, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Is that really necessary? I just wish to re-add my post. WP:TPO doesn’t cover removing someone else’s post because it’s “irrelevant.” Could I please re-add my post and the heading that you removed? Interqwark talk contribs 22:06, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
And what is the point of that? (And do you understand why adding a heading that includes the day of the month causes problems for the vandal-reverting bot and other automation?) General Ization Talk 22:08, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
The point is simply that I didn’t ask for you to remove my post.

Anyway, I’m not aware of how headings cause problems for bots. Could you explain? Interqwark talk contribs 22:09, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

If you are an active editor, occasionally you will find that your edits and posts are removed in the process of making constructive edits. It's best not to take it personally, and not to insist on restoring them unless you can provide a constructive reason to do so. When a vandal has already received a final (Level 4) warning, it's not especially constructive to give them another level 3. As for the problem with your header, the bot looks for a month heading (without a day, as it would include) to determine what level of warning it should issue to the user. When it sees the header with the day, it starts over again at level 1, even if the user has already received 3 warnings prior to that one. General Ization Talk 22:13, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
My post was not vandalism or spam, nor was it disruptive, and its removal doesn’t seem to fall under WP:TPO. Redundancy never hurt anyone on a talk page.
Also, the heading that you removed was Ad Orientem’s, not mine. Interqwark talk contribs 22:20, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
You seem to have missed the point. Do what you like. If you think Ad Orientem should be upset about my removal of their heading, you're welcome to talk with them about it, though they may try to explain to you exactly what I have just tried to explain. I won't spend more time on it. General Ization Talk 22:22, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I am not upset. I was just confused as to why you removed an administrator’s heading. I assumed that you thought I added it. I don’t think that the talk page guidelines allows one to remove someone else’s heading over their own post unless it’s vandalism or spam, and I also think that it is a bit difficult to read a talk page when there are posts without headings, but I will not re-add Ad Orientem’s heading.
I have, however, re-added my post to the talk page. Interqwark talk contribs 22:27, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
All of the standard template warnings accumulated by a given editor on their Talk page during a given month, whether issued by a bot or by a human, should generally be grouped under a single heading, consisting of the month and the year (without a day). Each warning should not have its own heading if one for that month already exists (and I wonder where you have seen warnings that do). If another editor has a notice or comment other than standard warnings for an editor, those should of course have their own descriptive heading. General Ization Talk 22:32, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I did not know that ClueBot NG gives warnings depending on the headings. I often see warnings with headings using the month and year. Interqwark talk contribs 22:39, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, with the month and year; not DMY or MDY. The MY heading is added automatically by the bot (or by editors using automation, such as Twinkle) in the course of issuing the warning if they do not find one as the last heading on the page. If they find an existing MY heading as the last heading, they do not add a new one. General Ization Talk 22:43, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Why did you remove Ad Orientem’s heading, which only had the month and year, then? Interqwark talk contribs 22:52, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Because the only reason the additional heading was added when AO added the block notice was because of your intervening edit with the non-conforming header that confused the automation. When your edit (and the extra heading) was removed, all of the notices appeared under the single MY heading. It should be clear from AO's comments below that they have no issue with it. Now, can we both go do something more useful? General Ization Talk 23:09, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
I’m a bit confused. Ad Orientem added the heading himself/herself. How did my unrelated revisions affect anything? Interqwark talk contribs 23:14, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
It is not necessary to keep pinging me to the discussion. I am aware of it, and trying very hard to ignore it. Is there really nothing more constructive that could occupy your time? -Ad Orientem (talk) 22:57, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
My apologies. I won’t ping you again. Interqwark talk contribs 23:14, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
The discussion above is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
  • No worries. I appreciate that you are both working hard to improve the project. But this discussion does seem to have dragged on a bit. The user is blocked. Is there anything else that really needs to be said? -Ad Orientem (talk) 23:18, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Actor

In this article, in the paragraph of "Role of women" the sources cited are the tabloid press, that the actors earn more money just for being men is something extremely absurd, it's as if they said that male basketball players earn more money than the female basketball players just for being men, ignoring the race, the years in basketball, the annotations, the matches won, the titles obtained. The following article shows that actors do not earn more money because they are men. https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2016/12/29/why-jennifer-lawrences-20m-and-chris-pratts-12m-passengers-payday-was-a-trap/#114b3315240bErick Barker (talk) 03:07, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

I am sorry that I added information without referencing sources. I can tell you that I am not messing around and the nicknames are actual things that students call the schools, but unfortunately there are no sources I could find on the subject that would support it so that will have to go, which is probably for the best anyway. However, I could find support for the LHS motto, so I have added it back to the page. If you have a problem with that source, feel free to undo my work again. Edmund Thomas Clint

Hello.

I recently edited the page on the late child art prodigy Edmund Thomas Clint, which was later reverted by you. However, there seems to be a mistake in the reverting. My edit was only adding extra information on the author of Clint's English biography. Namely, I added that the book was authored by Ammu Nair, who knew Clint as a young child. The name of said biography, "A Brief Hour of Beauty", was already part of the verified article before. However, now in removing the extra information I added, the whole sentence - including the name of the biography- seems to have been removed. If you go down to the references, or just revert my edit, you can see that the name of the biography itself was already present in the article, and is still present in the references.

I apologize for not citing a source, as it was my first edit here, and I was unaware of the format and citation rules at the time. I was only trying to be helpful by adding the name of the author and the fact that she knew Clint as a child, because I am friends with the late prodigy Clint's family, and I happen to know the author in question as well. I felt an obligation to add that piece of information, because it felt helpful.

Please consider looking at the existing references, and the 'pre-edit' version of the article and adding back the name of that biography back to the page. It is at this time, the definitive biography of the artist in question, and the link to it is already present in the references, without my edit. You can read an original news article about the release of the biography here.

Once again, I apologize for not citing sources with the edit before, as it was purely a case of ignorance. However, I do not wish my mistake to be responsible for previously existing valid information on the page to now be deleted.

Absurdister (talk) 01:08, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

@Absurdister: As you note, your addition was unsourced. In addition, we do not permit external links (as opposed to citations) in the body of articles, and it is not important to point out in a biographical article on Wikipedia from what seller a biographical book may be purchased (see WP:SPAM). The book itself is not a notable work. It continues to serve as a cited reference for the article here (which is fine, without links or instructions to purchase it). General Ization Talk 02:05, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
Also, please see WP:COI. "I am friends with the late prodigy Clint's family, and I happen to know the author in question as well" means that you have a conflict of interest and should not edit the article directly at all. General Ization Talk 02:03, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello again.

I understand the issues and problems mentioned by you in the response to my earlier note. And I completely agree that if my knowing said family and the author is a source of conflict, then I should not edit his page. I had thought of it as an advantage in terms of information. But now that I am aware of the conflict rule, I am quite comfortable with not editing that page anymore. This is in no way an attempt at promoting anything of any material or other gain to me.

My concern right now is that the page, at this point, mentions only the "regional language biography which is simply not accessible to a majority of people, apart from those hailing from one specific region, and does not mention at all the English language biography which is available internationally.

Please let me know what kind of citations or other material I should provide to anyone, who is actually qualified and conflict free, to verify and edit the page in order for the page to also mention the book about Clint which more people can actually access now.

Thank you very much for your time. I apologize for the repeated notes, and while I understand that the conflict in me editing this page, I would still like it to be updated and helpful to anyone who may want to learn more about Clint.

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC about the deletion of drafts closed with a consensus to change the wording of WP:NMFD. Specifically, a draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus that the {{promising draft}} template cannot be used to indefinitely prevent a WP:G13 speedy deletion nomination.

Technical news

  • Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
  • Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. To enable this feature, click the highlighter icon () in your editing toolbar (or under the hamburger menu in the 2017 wikitext editor). This feature can help prevent you from making mistakes when editing complex templates.
  • IP-based cookie blocks should be deployed to English Wikipedia in July (previously scheduled for June).

Miscellaneous

  • Currently around 20% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 17% a year ago. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless if you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

rejection of 'democracy' edit

The 'majority rules' definition of democracy, which cites Miriam-Webster's definition is an incomplete and misleading definition because by its logic, the examples I provided in my edit would be defined as examples of democracy. In fact, the rise of nazism (majoritarian fascism), the use of popular sovereignty to maintain slavery, and the overriding of the supreme court's protections against Cherokee eviction are all examples in which majoritarian rule was anti-democratic, so it follows that the definition of democracy must go beyond 'majority rule' to sufficiently define democracy as something different from majoritarian fascism.

Rejecting this as a byproduct of personal analysis is not correct, because defining democracy simply as 'majority rule' conflates it with the definition of popular sovereignty or majoritarian fascism, which are generally considered different political systems than democracy, which involves checks and balances and other safeguards against majoritarian fascism.

See Original research. If you can find a published, reliable source that makes those observations, you can add them with a citation of that source. Otherwise, no. What you think "follows" from your logic may or may not be what "follows" for most people, and is immaterial to the encyclopedia. General Ization Talk 18:05, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Dear General Ization,

My name is Stefan, I officially represent SeaRates.com. We have noticed that our domain have been blacklisted by you on Wikipedia in 2015. We would like to underline that all accounts, who added spam links related to the international shipping, have no relation to us. Namely:

KasparBot Graham87 85.238.105.73 Wiggi-1 Djr13 217.175.85.154 S.K. Tholme

We kindly ask you to review our blacklisting and restore our good status, otherwise please advise what have been the violation from our side, and what should we do for changing this situation.

Thank you very much Stefan (Redacted) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stefrogovskiy (talkcontribs) 15:53, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

@Stefrogovskiy: Follow the procedure described at Wikipedia:Spam blacklist. Personally, I can think of no good reason to remove the domain SeaRates.com from the spam blacklist, and have no interest in submitting the request for you. General Ization Talk 02:39, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi, You must live outside the United States, since in American English, commas always go inside quotation marks. Given that the reference to "Drinking the Kool-Aid" is about American culture, I stand by my revision.Jmn100

For reference, I have included an excerpt from the web grammar site, 'Quick and Dirty Tips':

Quotation Marks with Commas and Periods The most common question people ask about quotation marks is whether periods and commas go inside or outside, and the answer depends on where your audience lives because in American English we always put periods and commas inside quotation marks, but in British English periods and commas can go inside or outside (kind of like the American rules for question marks and exclamation points). I use this memory trick: Inside the US, inside the quotation marks. Here are some examples:

“Don’t underestimate me,” she said with a disarmingly friendly smile.

I can never remember how to spell “bureaucracy.”

Don’t get confused when you see this handled differently in The Economist or on the BBC website; just remember that it’s different in those publications because the British do it differently. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmn100 (talkcontribs) 19:12, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

@Jmn100: Please don't assume that other editors are not familiar with the conventions of one or another version of English. For reference, I refer you to MOS:LQ, which describes our policy concerning the treatment of punctuation and quotes here at Wikipedia: "On the English Wikipedia, use the 'logical quotation' style in all articles, regardless of the variety of English in which they are written. Include terminal punctuation within the quotation marks only if it was present in the original material, and otherwise place it after the closing quotation mark. For the most part, this means treating periods and commas in the same way as question marks: Keep them inside the quotation marks if they apply only to the quoted material and outside if they apply to the whole sentence. ... If the quotation is a single word or a sentence fragment, place the terminal punctuation outside the closing quotation mark." Examples are given at the link. In the subject sentence, "Kool Aid" is not a complete sentence; hence the comma goes outside the quote marks. General Ization Talk 19:18, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
@Jmn100: Also, please remember to always sign your comments on any Talk page by typing four tildes (~~~~) after them. General Ization Talk

OK, I was heretofore unaware that Wikipedia had its own style guideline for punctuation - thanks for the explanation.Jmn100 (talk) 06:38, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi General Ization, it's clear that the IP editor that we have been dealing with is persistent in pursuing an agenda of supplying perceived synonyms to articles. I have undone some of the individual's other contributions. I left Air force#Organization and units in place, which the individual had changed from "Organization" to "Organization and units" only because there is a table showing "units". If this persists, what's our next step? Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 21:11, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

@HopsonRoad: At this point, a report at WP:EW3 is probably in order concerning Ship (I've already issued the warning template). I hesitated to file the report only because technically I could be considered at 4RR there myself (though perhaps debatable). But I agree that, aside from their edit warring, their edits are of dubious value. General Ization Talk 21:27, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
I noticed the ticklish situation that you describe and stand ready to dilute the issue between the two of us. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 22:57, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a "stop-gap" discussion, six users have temporarily been made interface administrators while discussion is ongoing for a more permanent process for assigning the permission. Interface administrators are now the only editors allowed to edit sitewide CSS and JavaScript pages, as well as CSS/JS pages in another user's userspace. Previously, all administrators had this ability. The right can be granted and revoked by bureaucrats.

Technical news

  • Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour.
  • Some abuse filter variables have changed. They are now easier to understand for non-experts. The old variables will still work but filter editors are encouraged to replace them with the new ones. You can find the list of changed variables on mediawiki.org. They have a note which says Deprecated. Use ... instead. An example is article_text which is now page_title.
  • Abuse filters can now use how old a page is. The variable is page_age.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee has resolved to perform a round of Checkuser and Oversight appointments. The usernames of all applicants will be shared with the Functionaries team, and they will be requested to assist in the vetting process. The deadline to submit an application is 23:59 UTC, 12 September, and the candidates that move forward will be published on-wiki for community comments on 18 September.

Guideline and policy news

  • After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
  • Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.
