Brisbane Broncos
Just to let you know - Brisbane Broncos is a current feature article candidate. To see suggestions other editors are making go to Talk:Brisbane Broncos and press 'leave comments' in the first box. SpecialWindler 03:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Very amusing. Go to the Broncos talk page and have a read. But thanks anyway.--Jeff79 03:19, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean (i obviously miss the sarcasm). SpecialWindler 03:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
I mean the Broncos talk page already has several paragraphs of discussion from me.--Jeff79 03:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- No thats not what I mean, go to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Brisbane Broncos and see comments on the Broncos page, you recently reverted some of my changes that other wikipedians suggested. SpecialWindler 03:24, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, but even if you did find it you'd have to put it onto a new article connected to the Brisbane Broncos template because the team song on the page would make it look very informal.. (i dont know why) SpecialWindler 03:59, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
RE: Brisbane Broncos
Sure, the table is a good summary of the club's performance but ironically I believe a bit too detailed to be left on the main page of an article. All of the important points of the club's history are already summarised in the main history section of Brisbane Broncos. I don't think having games won, games lost and ladder position are a major priority for readers, and from my experience with other editors tables are not encouraged unless they significantly improve the article or are absolutely essential. I'm happy to discuss this with other editors and change my mind if there is a general consensus to leave it where it is. But what I'm doing to the article at the moment will, in my opinion, make the article look and read better. Cheers, mdmanser 05:58, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
I started up a WP:RL article improvement drive (AID) a month or two ago, and we've been gradually working on helping each NRL club article get closer towards FA status. At the moment we're at work on the Brisbane Broncos one. Put your name down and keep an eye out on the talk page for further updates on what the Project is doing, and hopefully you might consider joining to generally improve articles on rugby league! Thanks. mdmanser 13:22, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

re:Rugby League season infoboxes
In each NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL season's infobox (which you have so helpfully added) there is a field for top point-scorer but not one for top try-scorer. I don't know how to edit those infoboxes to put in additional fields but thought maybe you did. In rugby league I think seasons' top try-scorers are of equal (if not greater) interest/importance/relevance as the top point-scorers (who are invariably clubs' goal-kickers).--Jeff79 19:36, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure how to do it yet, but if i work it out i'l leave a message on your talk page. CEP78 00:06, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Rugby league player articles
I see you create alot of new rugby league player articles (eg. Billy Moore). When you do so can you include the following template:
{{Infobox_rugby_league_biography}}
The usage is simple to understand for example.
Just a suggestion to improve rugby league player articles, you may also want to join WikiProject Rugby League
SpecialWindler 06:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Player Articles
Although you are making positive contributions to Brisbane Broncos related articles please do not:
- Put Brisbane Broncos Players into the Category:Brisbane Broncos, they are already in the Category:Brisbane Broncos rugby league players page and as a subcategory of Brisbane Broncos already applies.
- On discussion of Talk:Rugby league you have mentioned changes such as Wayne Bennett (rugby league footballer) to Wayne Bennett (rugby league), this is fine but. Please do not change pages that are not both footballers (eg. Corey Parker).
Thanks, I'm not trying to discredit what you do, you do a great job editing Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SpecialWindler (talk • contribs) 07:07, 10 May 2007 (UTC).
- Sorry for not signing, in response to your question, see my note above. SpecialWindler 07:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- The thingo on Brisbane Broncos is not needed at all (for future reference the template is {{dablink}}. SpecialWindler 07:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- For the category, currently the three non-broncos related people there are Wayne Bennett, Paul Morgan and Barry Maranta, simply because they don't fit into a Category:Brisbane Broncos rugby league coaches or something else. Think about it, in 100 years time, if wikipedia is still going (the internet for that matter), the Brisbane Broncos would have had at least 20 (presuming most wont go for as long as Wayne Bennett has) or so coaches, a category would be made for these coaches. If you seriously still want to go with it, players like Brad Thorn don't need to be there. If you think about something else, if you put one player there, someone will think, ahhh lets put this player here. That the purpose of the Category:Brisbane Broncos rugby league players. SpecialWindler 07:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I having nothing wrong with the captains, but the players must be notable enough to be in that, have they changed the club (eg, the captains have but has anybody else done that). (PS Brad Thorn has played rugby union 2000-2004). SpecialWindler 07:40, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
p.s. Regarding Brad Thorn I said NRL career, not football career--Jeff79 07:52, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Fine, but plus the captains, you might make it 250+ games, (I dont think Petero Civoniceva has done enough to be notable enough and players such as Tonie Carroll (172), Brad Thorn (184), Dane Carlaw (165) and Shaun Berrigan (159) will be making there way up there in the next few years, but very few make it to 250 compared to 200. But if I see Petero there I wont remove it. It takes a very exceptional player to get to 250 games (like your Lockyers, Webckess, Gees, Hancocks) It shows there devotion to the club (i sposse renouf does, but was plagued by injury) SpecialWindler 08:04, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
People not stupid
Jeff Saw your comment of the other week re Thurston & the JT nickname. "People aren't stupid' you said. Sometimes when reading discussion pages on Wiki RL articles I seriously doubt this. BestSticks66 12:43, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

NSWRL Season Articles
Jeff, as I commented tonight in that Broncos Discussion page I've only just seen your NSWRL season articles series. It reminds me that there were some rather lame articles on earlier Grand Finals that seemed to be out on there own. There was one on Roosters v Manly 1972 that I recall copy-editing. Do you know where these are, are there more and would you be intending pulling them into your season articles ? Sticks66 13:49, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
They're not really my articles. Someone called CEP78 and I have been working on them. The same situation exists for the 1911 grand final. When I came across it I just put merger requests on both articles. If no one else does it I'll do it myself one of these days I guess. Might be an idea to just request mergers anytime you find the grand final on a separate page, so when poeple come across them they can look at merging the two. Or you could be bold and do it yourself. I really think they belong in the season pages. I'd like to see every season page include grand final details eventually.--Jeff79 17:53, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Before doing it I thought I'd check with you first, but I reckon the advertising section could be a sub-heading under "Pre-season" or "Season Summary" or something. Seems a little out of place as a main section coming after the Grand Final section in my opinion.--Jeff79 19:34, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I was thinking abut that. In the lean years when they had no budget the NRL would make an ad & only show it at launch. Then it would be appropriate for it to be under "Pre-season" and be early in the article. But in the Tina Turner years as for now with That's My Team the ads run all year. Maybe this isn't a problem, "Season launch" could be perfect where there would also be the details of any new teams added or removed. But I was also thinking that no-one wants to read about the "Season advertising " ahead of the Results/Stats and Grand Final memories. It's a bit of a dilemna. Should I ask other RL contributors their opinion ? Perhaps I should first complete a couple more in the STB years so editors can see where I'm heading with these sub sections. --Sticks66 22:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
RL "Ashes" v SOO
Fair enough, although I note that whitewashes are extremely rare in the test series, and GB reps are as capable of lifting and playing "above themselves" as SOO players. Grant | Talk 04:51, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Player line ups
Jeff I've noticed that in the old season articles the player line ups look like New South Wales Rugby League season 1911; in the more recent season articles they look like National Rugby League season 2000; now in the SoO 1980 article we have a new one. Not sure which of the former two I prefer, but I must admit I think both are preferable to the SoO one where there are two vertical lists required. What do you reckon ? I've also noticed others where the player positions are maked by initials FB for fullback; HK for Hooker etc; I thought that was efficient.Sticks66 15:26, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Recategorisation of F1 Grand Prix reports
Hi Jeff79. I've noticed you're recategorising lots of Formula One Grand Prix reports from [Category:19xx in sports] to [Category:19xx in motor racing]. Just to let you know, I'm currently in the process of reclassifying all the F1 reports into [Category:19xx Formula One race reports], in line with a discussion at WP:F1. So, if you like, you don't need to bother reclassifying the remaining F1 reports in [Category:19xx in sports] - I should have removed them all from those categories within the next couple of days. -- DH85868993 05:54, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that the move and edits were properly discussed. The comments at Talk:NRL (disambiguation) were by the banned User:Rugby 666 (a sockpuppet of User:Licinius) and his IP. I think you should move it back and generate more discussion. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:42, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Bronco supporter
- Hi Jeff, just wanted to say thanks for your great contributions to RL articles which are always very informative. (RL is the greatest game of all as George Lovejoy used to say over the PA at Lang Park all those years ago, (circa 1967, I was thirteen, and playing for West-Mitchelton).
- I am doing minor work on articles that come under WPProject Brisbane; hope you dont mind me suggesting that you please consider putting edit summaries on your edits? (always) This is in line with WP process guidelines, what it means is that other editors (like me) can see what work you have done at a glance on the Watchlist. I am quite new to WP myself, and with a reel slow connection to the web, I hate wasting time on editsumms (try this link), but I do them anyway, cz it does end up being helpful. Anyway, keep up the great work, and any little thing, just message to Talk:Newbyguesses.Things are great in the Sunshine State!Regards —Newbyguesses 00:03, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

I am trying to get Karmichael Hunt to Featured Article status and need a free image of him.
Thanks
SpecialWindler 05:13, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Your recently did some proof-reading to Karmichael Hunt, including changing some of the "Hunt" to "he". I am sorry to say that there was a edit conflict and I thought that seeing I was adding substantial information, that I over-rideded all your information. very Sorry. You may have noticed, I am trying to get Karmichael Hunt to FA status. There is a to do list on the talk page, and thanks for your proof reading, I am trying now to some of the proof reading you just did. SpecialWindler 07:41, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Season Advertising 03 & 04
Jeff, in the 04 Season Summary there was a comment you wrote that the "original" That's My Team ad featured the Hoodoos in Wests and Cronulla jumpers. I assumed you meant the 1st year ad being 2003. But I've just added a link to that ad in the 03 article, and I can't see any shot of the band in the finished 03 ad. Maybe you meant that in the 04 version they wear the jumpers ? Apologies if I've deleted the assertion in error. Did you mean 04 ? -Sticks66 14:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Rugby League Positions - terminology
I agree with you that it's an awful title. How about just calling it "Differences in terminology" (or nomenclature or whatever). The text within the section explains whereabouts the various terms are used, and a simpler title wouldn't exclude the possibility of naming differences which are NOT based on a NH/SH divide coming to light from future editors. (I don't know of any, but it's possible there's a team somewhere who plays a man at 9/16!) Paul Tracy|\talk 20:37, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

RE:Grand Final summaries
Yeah as you said the season infobox really kills any hope of keeping the suspense up until the Grand Final section. And for that reason I don't think anybody is going to mind if they find out Grand Final information in the table. But as you said, that report format should be the standard (although hopefully the grammatical quality could be better) across all articles. I'll look into making sure that editors keep it that way. One thing we do need to figure out though are the team lineups format. Hopefully we can all come up with a solution soon. mdmanser 06:13, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism
Unfortunately an IP vandal won't get blocked by hoping in edit comments. I've been adding the warning templates to the user's talk page which is a necessary part of the blocking process - if it happens at all with an IP! I have now added the vandalism-4 warning to the user page which means if they vandalise again they can be reported but you need to wait for another instance of vandalism before that can go ahead. If it happens when you are online, please feel free to report User:202.63.38.202 at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism using this template and these guidelines. You are reverting valid content and I'm struggling to see the good faith. diff 1, diff 2 •Florrie•leave a note• 13:49, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
63 Ashes
Hey Jeff , I think that anonymous useer who changed the 1963 result to 2Aust v 1 GB was right. I think the series went: Australia 1st Test London 28-2; Australia 2nd TestSwinton (the "massacre") 50-12; Great Britain 3rd Test Leeds 16-5. - Sticks66 12:43, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Removal of category from your userpage
Hi. In enacting consensus from User categories for discussion, I have removed the category Category:Wikipedians interested in books from your userpage. It was determined in that deletion debate that this category should be depopulated of individuals, but kept as a parent category. If you wish to display a category reflecting your interest in books, please consider one of the specific sub-categories under its umbrella. Thanks, and please excuse the necessary editing of your user page! ----Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi Jeff, couple of queries about your edit; why is a construction company relevant to the article? and what redevelopment of the mall are you referring too? A reference would be great to clear up my confusion. Cheers, WikiTownsvillian 15:19, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Terminology
Hi Jeff, regarding this edit, the standard across Wikipedia is to use "Association football" or "football (soccer)". "Association football (soccer)" doesn't make sense, it is like saying "Australian rules football (Aussie rules)" or "Field hockey (field)". -- Chuq (talk) 07:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- So why not "Football (soccer)" then?
- By that logic, we should write "Australian rules (AFL)" because people refer to the sport itself as "AFL" more often than they call it "Australian rules football"? -- Chuq (talk) 11:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Wrong again, I'm afraid. 'AFL' is not actually an alternative name for 'Australian Rules Football', and should not be represented as such in Wikipedia, as all would agree. 'Soccer' on the other hand, most definitely is an alternative name for 'Association football', particularly in Australia, and accordingly, should be represented as such.--Jeff79 (talk) 11:59, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Infobox Logos and Captions
Nice work with tidying up the season pages over the past few weeks. But I must ask, why the need to reduce the image logo and remove the caption? I thought it looked fine as it was, but I won't revert it back for the time being. MDM (talk) 07:50, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- I guess it sometimes takes me a bit of time to accept change. As for the work you've done here, I think I definitely agree with you now in terms of logo size. As for the captions I'm still neutral, but I don't particularly mind if they're not there. MDM (talk) 08:06, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that would have been me, simply because it is proper Commonwealth English to not use hyphens (I remember looking this up at the time) and for plural/non plural to be used for "points scorer" and "try scorer". But in regards to your comment about it the "(s)" being forced onto its own line, I'm not really sure what you mean. Is there a line break occurring on your browser at that point with the phrase being shown on two lines instead? Let me know, cheers. MDM (talk) 08:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Hall of Fame
Jeff, may I propose merging each of the Hall of Fame navboxes into one? I think it'll be beneficial for readers all round and it doesn't take up that much more space. If you agree, just copy and paste the template I've made at User:MDM/Sandbox4 into Template:Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame and then redirect the others. Cheers. MDM (talk) 03:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I just think a complete template like that would render the article rather useless. Although it would be a mangeable size now, supposedly it will grow by six players every year. I dunno. I was faced with the decision before I started and I thought I made the right one. If you go ahead and make the changes, I won't jump up and down too much.--Jeff79 (talk) 07:18, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
brisbane broncos history
Please stop, just temporarily. The Windler talk 03:46, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
(to be continued)
I have proposed this on the WP:RL talk page, to see what other members think. If I am completly outvoted, then I won't object. But I just think, you shouldn't do this because you find it absurd ... not yet. Thanks The Windler talk 03:58, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of 1992 World Club Challenge
A tag has been placed on 1992 World Club Challenge, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. nneonneo (talk) 03:00, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
