Welcome!

[edit]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 20:46, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's easy to sign and date your posts

[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Quisqualis (talk) 19:42, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SPI notice

[edit]

A sockpuppet investigation (SPI) has been initiated against you, you may wish to comment here. Colonestarrice (talk) 03:31, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

Hi again Theguywholearnhistory!

Please just ignore the recent sockpuppetry investigation against you. It was closed without action, which means that you can just go about editing. If the accusation was mistaken, I apologize.

Please discuss your proposed changes at Talk:Battle of Benadir. The best way to go about it is to discuss a small piece of text first, and then to discuss which sources exactly support it.

The best way to show on article talk pages that your edits are accurate is to literally quote from reliable sources. Some tools I've found helpful when quoting from sources on talk pages are {{tq}} (for short quotes), {{tqb}} (for longer quotes that take up more than one line), and {{box}} used with the following code {{box|color=#e0dfdc|text}} (for quotes that take up a full paragraph or more).

Hope this is helpful, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 20:51, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above and would like to add that no newcomer should be welcomed with an SPI thrown at their head. I would also like to give some assurance that your proposed changes have a good chance of being implemented, if Wareno does not make the effort to engange in a civilized and concensus-building discourse now. Colonestarrice (talk) 12:33, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
He knows he has no chance when we get to fixing the article. His references are made up and he doesn't have any legitimate resources. So he just start reporting me. Isn't there anything you can do for him just putting in fake SPI and NSI. Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 14:41, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry i Meant ANI. Not NSI. Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 14:44, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Colonelstarrice: Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 14:47, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there Theguywholearnhistory,
I think Apaugasma has (again) already said everything that needs to be said (below). Though Wareno has created an ANI thread on you, their own conduct will be examined their as well. Please continue your mutual discourse on the article, let establishing consensus be your ultimate objective; if Wareno refuses to engage, is uncivilised or violates policies and guidelines in any other way, they will, ultimately, be sanctioned accordingly sooner or later. Colonestarrice (talk) 18:02, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ANI notice

[edit]

Hi Theguywholearnhistory! User:Wareno started a thread about you on the Administrator's noticeboard, and should have informed you about that. Because they did not do so, I am doing so now:

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Disruptive editor, personal attacks.. Thank you. ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 13:02, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. This is very comical and i hope you can see this too. He is not even trying engange in a civilized and concensus-building discourses. Because of his more knowledge about wikipedia rules and how to report people he is abusing it to the maximum. He is starting a new thread for Disruptive editor? When he is the one not wanting to even talk. I didn't even edit anything i just sent a edit request. So that possibly cant be enough for personal attacks NSI. Also i wanted to ask if you are a adminstrator or not? Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 14:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wareno probably doesn't want to talk because you started out by calling them a nationalist and vandal who is trying to manipulate history. How would you react when somebody started off a conversation with you like that? If you want to have an actual discussion, this is about the worst way to do it. But Wikipedia content can only be changed through wp:civil discussion. This can sometimes be difficult, but just keep in mind that there is another person sitting behind the other computer/tablet/phone. Would you say the same things when you would be together with them in the same room? Would you expect that to end well?
On Wikipedia it is imperative to always assume good faith. When one editor in a discussion stops doing that, it becomes very stressful for everybody involved, and the article in question does not get improved. Also please keep in mind that accusing other editors of vandalism or manipulation without evidence, and outside of the appropriate places (noticeboards like WP:ANI) is strictly prohibited, and can get you blocked (we call this 'aspersions', see WP:ASPERSIONS). When discussing on article talk pages, focus on content, not on other editors.
Perhaps it may be a good idea for you to edit other articles for a while, and see how that goes, before you return to Battle of Benadir. It will be easier to learn about Wikipedia when editing pages where no conflict arises, and when other editors see you're doing good work elsewhere they will be more likely to work with you rather than against you.
As for your last question, I am not an administrator. Please note that administrators on Wikipedia do not have any special rights in comparison to other users, they merely have the technical ability to perform important maintenance actions like blocking and unblocking users or deleting and restoring articles. Discussion of whether blocks, deletions, etc. should be carried out is mostly conducted by normal users.
Kind regards, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 17:36, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's not wrong of me to assume that he is a vandalizer when he already got 2 warns before for doing stuff like this. I'm already working on my own wikipedia article already. But im not going to give up on this article. Also you can't just go edit other wikipedia articles. You have to have atleast some knowledge or be interested about them. So it will be very hard. Also how do i register my ip so i can edit semi - protected articles. (not talking about Battle Of Benadir) But other ones. I just dont like the amount on missinformation on this article. Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 18:58, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Theguywholearnhistory, here's some information on how to edit semi-protected articles Quisqualis (talk) 22:12, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) On Wikipedia, any user can place warning templates like {{uw-vandalism1}} or {{uw-ew}} on any other user's talk page (here's a full list of available warnings). However, that does not necessarily mean that every such warning is justified: sometimes some users wrongly believe that other users are being disruptive. It even happens that it's the user issuing the 'warning' that is actually disruptive; indeed issuing such 'warnings' can itself be disruptive. Never just assume anything from this type of thing, and in any case do not call other users in good standing 'vandalizers': that never helps, on the contrary, it will turn most other editors against you. People will be much more willing to listen to you when they see that you're friendly towards others.
Semi-protected articles can only be edited by accounts that are autoconfirmed, which means that they are at least 4 days old and have made at least 10 edits. That's just one more hour for you. However, articles most often are semi-protected because they see a lot of disruption, so this is far from ideal for a relatively new user. Please tread carefully, and remember to always wp:assume good faith. Sincerely, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 22:18, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey is there no timer for wareno to answer to my WP consensus. Like after 10 days if he doesn't comment can i do the changes that i want or how does that work?
Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 09:21, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to up your edit count – though this should never be a prime objective of yours on WP – you can always help out at the WP:Task Center, WP:Maintenance or a WP:WikiProject of your interest.
Once you become autoconfirmed, I sincerely advise you not to edit Battle of Benadir without establishing prior consensus with Wareno or your changes will, most certainly, be reverted by them; and this might lead to a WP:edit war, which will get you both WP:blocked.
Three super basic pages that link to almost everything relevant on Wikipedia and which might be of help to you: the WP:Community Portal, the WP:List of policies and guidelines and Template:Noticeboard links.
If you need any sort WP-related help in the future, you can always consult the WP:Help Desk or WP:Teahouse (as you have done before); or – if you prefer "peer-to-peer" interaction – you can ask me (I'm always happy to help) or Apaugasma (though I can't speak for them, I doubt they would object), since you already more or less know us. Colonestarrice (talk) 23:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to ask. Can i add something to battle of benadir without talking to wareno. (I wont remove what he wrote) also what if he just ignores the talk page can i then proceed to remove/edit his text? Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 09:22, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to ask. Can i add something to battle of benadir without talking to wareno. (I wont remove what he wrote) – Generally speaking, yes, though if your edits are reverted, don't reinstate them, always resort to the talk page. (Also note, you may never make changes to an article where you are involved in an edit war, even if those changes are unrelated to the disputed content).
also what if he just ignores the talk page can I then proceed to remove/edit his text? – Unfortunately, not answering is a little bit like a veto on WP (quite stupid, I know). Wait for the ANI thread to close; if no action is taken and Wareno refuses to engage even after a period of one week, you can assume that they no longer object to your changes and incorporate them. However, as I've said many times before, if Wareno reverts, don't reinstate your revision. In the worst case you can open up a WP:RfC, or ANI thread alleging Wareno of violating things such as WP:Communication is required (though I strongly recommend the former over the latter). Colonestarrice (talk) 11:09, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Theguywholearnhistory, please read Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. You can always, you are in fact strongly encouraged to make any edit once (I strongly advise you to start with one small edit adding a small piece of text, and see how that goes), but if someone reverts that edit, wp:civil and productive discussion on the talk page about that one (preferably small) edit is obligatory. If that doesn't go well or if there's no response, ask for a third opinion or start a wp:RfC.
In general you are in fact strongly encouraged to be bold with all kinds of things here: with making a first edit, with starting discussions, with asking for help, and with starting things like wp:RfCs. The only requirement is that you do two things: 1) always be friendly and assume good faith, and 2) wp:listen to the advise of users who are more experienced than yourself and be willing to learn from the mistakes that you will inevitably make.
Good luck, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 11:59, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello has the ANI been shut off yet so i can start editing or is it still ongoing? Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 21:04, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Though it never prevented you from editing, yes, the ANI thread has been archived and no action has been taken. Colonestarrice (talk) 21:31, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 11:51, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Did he create a new ani after i asked him for any input about an edit which i am going to make? Theguywholearnhistory (talk) 11:40, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the new ANI thread can be found here. You may participate there, but you don't have to.
Meanwhile you can continue editing. It would be particularly helpful if you answered my queries at Talk:Battle of Benadir#Proposed paragraph (December 2022). Thanks, ☿ Apaugasma (talk ) 12:31, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your user name

[edit]

Would you consider changing your user name to "Theguywholearnedhistory"? Everytime I see your name it bothers the grammarian in me. It also make you appear to be uneducated, which I'm sure you're not. Beyond My Ken (talk) 00:40, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'll have to agree with that. I stopped reading your name in full because, unfortunately, it is that bothersome. If you would like to, you can request a name change here. Colonestarrice (talk) 02:58, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gorgor Division moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Gorgor Division. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it has no sources. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Schminnte (talk contribs) 18:39, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Schminnte i edited a lot and added many sources could you take it back so it can become a normal article once again so i can work on it and add the finishing touches. Because when it is a draft i cant edit it normally it says edit source and then takes me to a document like place where i cant add images or anything making it impossible for me to further enhance the article. Gobroon (talk) 09:36, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't quite see what you mean, you can still use the visual editor on the draft. Anyway, seeing as you have already submitted it and this is your first article, it may do some good to be checked by another reviewer through AfC this time. Schminnte [talk to me] 09:42, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dude will i have to wait up till 4 months just because i didnt add sources on the first few hours of making the page? why cant you just review the page since you put me trough all this? Gobroon (talk) 11:32, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
First, please don't call me "dude". Second, I am not an active AfC reviewer, so will not review the article as it's outside my editing areas. I'm sure an experienced reviewer will get to it in time. Schminnte [talk to me] 12:09, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Would it work if i deleted the one i made and made a new one with sources? Gobroon (talk) 10:14, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
