Welcome

[edit]

I noticed that you've been editing some health-related articles recently. A bunch of us hang out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. It's a good place to ask questions about good sources for medical content and appropriate writing style. Please consider putting the page on your watchlist, or stop by to say hello some time. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:57, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have no specific interest in medicine, although I am fascinated by biology. I mostly just edit what Wikipedia recommends, which I guess is a lot of health-related stuff. I checked the WikiProject out and it seems like a very nice community. I'll definitely explore it some more when I have a bit more time. Cheers and thanks :D! GoldRomean (talk) 23:25, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that subject has been dominating some of the recommended tasks recently. It seems to vary over time. Some time there's no particular theme. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:12, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HI!!!

[edit]

why can I not adopt a user??? 😕 Lilly is cool (talk) 17:24, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, you can, but you should probably gain more experience before trying to help others. I really appreciate your enthusiasm, though! GoldRomean (talk) 17:26, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WAIT... I can??? Lilly is cool (talk) 17:29, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One of the rules of the Adopt-a-user page is that "Adopters should have sufficient experience before they start adopting," so I wouldn't recommend that you do so. If you really want to help new users (even though you really are one), you can place welcome messages on new users' pages with the appropriate template like I did on your talk page. Also, please try not to edit other users' user pages. GoldRomean (talk) 17:31, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
oh... well you just made me sad... Lilly is cool (talk) 17:35, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry. Continue to productively edit Wikipedia, and once you familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's guidelines more and get to 500 edits and 90 days, you can enroll in the mentorship program, which, as opposed to the Adopt-a-user program, is for brand new users. You can also visit the Teahouse and help out new users with any questions they may have, and consider playing the Wikipedia Adventure. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 17:57, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This user is a lesbian.
Lilly is cool (talk) 18:38, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm unable to access a compute right now, so I can't provide links or anything. If you search up Wikipedia Userboxes, you should find a page that gives you information on them and gives you a list of them and info on how to create them. Just copy the squiggly bracket stuff into your user page {{like this}} (be sure to use source editor, not visual editor) and it should appear. I'll get back to you in a bit if you need clarification or anything. Cheers! GoldRomean (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meant "{{like this}}". GoldRomean (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever. I'll figure it out later. GoldRomean (talk) 21:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I got it. To make a userbox, you should probably use the userbox maker. If you want to find other userboxes, go here, where you can find different collections of userboxes sorted by topic. So, say I want a userbox about my involvement in Wikipedia. I might go to this, find this, and then this. If I wanted to use the first userbox on the page, "This user is a Wikipedian", I would take the Wikitext, "{{User wikipedia}}", and copy that into my user page (using SOURCE editor, not VISUAL editor), and it would show
This user is a Wikipedian.
. Hope that helps. GoldRomean (talk) 22:21, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jdlentini on Jeffrey Dahmer (21:40, 13 May 2024)

Hello. I’d like to add on Jeffrey Dahmer’s page that he raped two soldiers when he was in the military. They’ve come out and spoken about it in a documentary. --Jdlentini (talk) 21:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jdlentini If the documentary is reliable (and, possibly, if you can find other reliable sources), be bold and go for it! Just make sure you use citations with reliable sources. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 21:48, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Ruth Bader Yinzburg (23:24, 17 May 2024)

[edit]

Hi! I was looking at Veronica Chambers’ page, and it says it needs a cite about her role at Hearst. There isn’t much out there, but I found a NYT press release : https://www.nytco.com/press/veronica-chambers-joins-archival-storytelling-team/ that addresses it. But press releases aren’t typically considered good sources, right? --Ruth Bader Yinzburg (talk) 23:24, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ruth Bader Yinzburg Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, they usually aren't. Since the issue here isn't really controversial, you could use it, especially since the one you found is from the NYT, although better sources would be more preferable (although you're right, there really aren't that many regarding her). The last source used in that article, from InkWell Management Literary Agency, also mentions her role in Hearst and could also be added to that section. You can see WP:PRSOURCE for more info. Hope that helps. On a different note, thanks for your consistently constructive edits to Wikipedia! GoldRomean (talk) 19:42, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gold,

Hope this email finds you well.

I'm Umesh, with over 20 years of experience in IT. My background includes certifications in security (CISM, CISA) and project management (PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL Master). I'm also well-versed in DevOps and SAFe methodologies.

I'm excited to connect as your mentee and learn from your expertise. I'm particularly interested in contributing to improving the accuracy of IT-related articles on Wikipedia.

I understand edits require specific formats and sources, and I'd love to discuss how I can best utilize my knowledge to enhance Wikipedia's content.

Looking forward to connecting further!

The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar

Thank you! GoldRomean (talk) 13:12, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhtwiki I have a question: Say I somehow managed to copy-edit 100 articles and make it onto the leaderboard. Will this be automatically/manually changed or do I have to change the leaderboard myself? GoldRomean (talk) 13:34, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maintaining the leaderboard is the responsibility of the editors who deserve a place there, although the accomplishments of editors who haven't been doing so for themselves are apt to recorded anyway, especially if an overly modest editor has copy edited 100 articles. Lesser accomplishments are more likely to go unnoticed. I'm not entirely sure whether the software we usually use to calculate the barnstars would catch such omissions. Dhtwiki (talk) 23:29, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stephen Turnbull

[edit]

In re the movie 47 Ronin, as I noted, if the games he worked on are worthy of being mentioned as ever so successful, as they are, it is equally worthy to mention that the movie was seriously panned by critics, aggregation sites such as Metacritic, etc. As is noted on the page of the movie itself. 2001:9B0:46:0:0:0:B4D5:2BCD (talk) 22:05, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@2001:9B0:46:0:0:0:B4D5:2BCD: That's fine; however, if you want to add that information, you need to also provide a reliable source. GoldRomean (talk) 22:08, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So the already existing information on the page of the game isn't a reliable source? That would sort of make all of wikipedia useless, then. Not to mention that I thought that wikipedia was supposed to not be an "advertisement", and so including that the games are successful, while inferring that it's due to Turnbull, is hardly a neutral point of view but rather a call to use him, see how wonderful his work is. 2001:9B0:46:0:0:0:B4D5:2BCD (talk) 22:12, 8 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not good practice to self-cite and cite a Wikipedia article in a Wikipedia article. Also, we do not want to make readers chase links around to find a proper source, so you should cite the source in the page, not some random other page that mentions the same fact. I never said that you couldn't add that the movie wasn't successful; I merely said that you need to back it up with a reliable source. Since there are many in the 47 Ronin article, you can just take one of them and put it on the page, and it'll be fine. Thank you for your concerns and your efforts to keep Wikipedia NPOV :D. Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Regarding that IP

[edit]

I reported that one at AIV. Even if it might not fit the definition of vandalism to the letter, that kind of thing can be reported at AIV since the editor is clearly acting in bad faith by that point. TornadoLGS (talk) 21:31, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TornadoLGS Okay. Thanks for the help! I guess I'm still pretty new and I've never really faced personal attacks like that... quite an, for lack of better word, interesting experience. Well, thanks for getting them blocked. I'll use AIV next time (and maybe learn how to properly file a report on ANI so I don't have to annoy poor random admins if the need arises). Thanks again! GoldRomean (talk) 21:48, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I've just noticed - thanks for requesting the page protection too! I guess that's the only way to stop them from using a proxy? GoldRomean (talk) 21:56, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or sockpuppetry more generally if they consistently target the same page(s). Some of the pages I've frequently edited have required protection (sometimes indefinite) for that reason.

Dealing with an LTA

[edit]
@GoldRomean, This user you dealt with here was LTA BBB. He usually does this familiar pattern of harassment to editors, so it’s best to ignore him and report to AIV next time you see this. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 02:26, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Filmssssssssssss: Okay, thanks for letting me know. Is there a way to identify these kind of users, or is it just like, intuition? GoldRomean (talk) 13:01, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My strategy is to look at their casepages and to see if they have any examples of the vandalism. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 13:49, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Bcbc24 (15:03, 29 June 2024)

[edit]

Hello. I am editing the Yavapai-Apache Nation page. The lede has a portion after the first two sentences that can be separated into its own "Reservation" section. A Reservation section follows the format of other Native American tribes' Wikipedia articles. I would like to create the section, but I hesitate to make changes to the lede that would move content away. The article can be developed, and I hope to contribute more to it in the future as I become more experienced. As a novice editor, am I allowed to create the Reservation section with the information on the lede? --Bcbc24 (talk) 15:03, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bcbc24 Hi, and (a belated) welcome to Wikipedia! If you believe that those edits will be helpful to the article, I suggest that you just be bold and change it yourself. If other editors disagree, they can simply just revert your edits and you can open a discussion about what would be best to do. Use caution, but since that info isn't in the article at all (as far as I can see), I feel like it's violating WP:LEAD anyway so a change shouldn't be a problem. And you probably know this already, but of course you are "allowed" to do anything you want on Wikipedia (as long as it's constructive and not a special case like a protected page), and you are right, the article does need improvement. Hope that wasn't too long and was understandable. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions :D. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 15:34, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bcbc24 TL;DR; basically, just go for it, but be careful :D. GoldRomean (talk) 15:34, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, I feel there some misinformation in Wikipedia beings used for political benefit. --Prasannasunny (talk) 09:56, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Prasannasunny Hi, and welcome! Wikipedia tries its best to remain neutral and NPOV. If you see something on Wikipedia being used for political benefit, please bring it up on the article's talk page or somewhere like the NPOV noticeboard. However, looking at your recent edits to Kavali that have been reverted by ClueBot NG, you need to provide a reliable source (even if your information is correct). Thanks, GoldRomean (talk) 14:39, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, sorry. Didn't mean to mention you, ClueBot. GoldRomean (talk) 14:40, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hi GoldRomean. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Fastily 09:20, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I need a public page made for myself --Lukekriger (talk) 17:14, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia does not recommend you to write an article about yourself. If you do, you will need to declare a conflict of interest and make sure especially to cite your articles with many reliable sources that establish notability. If you really are notable, you can make a request at Requested Articles and maybe someone will write your article for you. Thanks, GoldRomean (talk) 14:10, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from RaviDesigns on Bhairathi Ranagal (07:42, 12 July 2024)

[edit]

Hlo your giving wrong information to kannada cinema industry Wikipedia showing BHAIRATHI RANGAL movie editor is Harish komme its totally wrong once you check and current it as of now Akash hiremath please do fast --RaviDesigns (talk) 07:42, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I have never edited that page and so any mistakes on it are not mine; you can find out who added the "wrong info" in the edit history. Either way, Wikipedia editors are volunteers and we can't always update info instantly as soon as it is released; if you have a RELIABLE SOURCE you can go ahead and change the info yourself (with a reliable source). Thanks, and welcome! GoldRomean (talk) 19:59, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SterlingSilver23 (09:37, 19 July 2024)

[edit]

How can I create a Wiki article? --SterlingSilver23 (talk) 09:37, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Plz see this link on your first article for help. Since you can't directly create articles yet, I recommend making a draft and submitting it to Articles for Creation where experienced people will look at your article and publish it if it meets Wikipedia's guidelines. Make sure you don't have a conflict of interest and use reliable sources that establish notability when writing. Hope that helps; please don't hesitate to contact me for more info! Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 22:08, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Arakeshphd (06:06, 23 July 2024)

[edit]

Hi Mentor,

I am glad to connect with you. Are you available to help if I ask you?

Rakesh --Arakeshphd (talk) 06:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! I will generally be able to help you if you need it. If I will be unable to check my messages, I will try to make sure to tell you. If I don't reply, sorry, and you can ask at the Teahouse where people can answer your questions. I left some helpful links on your talk page too. By the way, I think that you have mixed up your user page and user sandbox; the info in them should be switched, probably. Anyway, welcome. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 13:02, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from RogenLothena (15:34, 16 August 2024)

[edit]

Hello, why do the administrators of this site permanently remove the messages they write on other people's profiles without their permission? I worked really hard to prepare a text that I wrote very neatly and professionally, and an admin came and removed it because it did not comply with the site rules. But the User page is a page that belongs to me and is an area that concerns my profile. I don't think any admin or Wikipedia rule has the right to interfere with it. --RogenLothena (talk) 15:34, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, welcome, and sorry for the late reply. Although your user page does "belong" to you, there are certain rules to follow and you just can't write anything. May I ask what you put on your page that got removed? It may help me understated the situation better. Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 12:25, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Bikash Ban (11:07, 27 August 2024)

[edit]

I want to create a wiki page of an event that was organized under my mentorship. this event will be conducted each year. I want to learn how to make the wiki page look professional. I got confused while making a table --Bikash Ban (talk) 11:07, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! Unfortunately, it looks like your page has been deleted. In order to make a page about your event, you will have to use reliable sources to prove that it is notable. Also, you should not write a page about your own event because you have a conflict of interest. Let me know if you have any more questions :). GoldRomean (talk) 12:16, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from YieldingYeti (16:34, 29 August 2024)

Hello there, you've been assigned my mentor. How do you like that?

With my fresh account, I dread bad chances for my new article in the draft review process. Do you have something encouraging to say here?.. --YieldingYeti (talk) 16:34, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I look forwards to being your mentor. Your draft looks pretty good! Even if it gets declined, as long as you keep working on it, you can keep submitting it again, so don't worry about it :D. GoldRomean (talk) 21:11, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CrazyBuilder (18:33, 2 September 2024)

[edit]

Hi GoldRomean,

I have a question: where do we post suggestions for changes that would apply to every page?

I have a particular interest in accessibility and have noticed that the link to the top of every page is invalid: the href ends with # rather than an HTML id. It is not a problem for most users but it will catch out keyboard-only users who cannot or who do not use a pointing device. The page will move but the focus will not.

Thank you, CrazyBuilder --CrazyBuilder (talk) 18:33, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm extremely sorry for not getting back sooner. I did read your question, and unfortunately I'm not sure how to help. The Help Desk maybe be able to get you to the right place. Thanks, GoldRomean (talk) 01:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I'm withdrawing my question because I've realised that the situation is more complicated than I first thought. It will take me a while to get my head fully around the potential issue, if any!
I have a lot to learn!!
CrazyBuider CrazyBuilder (talk) 16:56, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I would be glad if I had the technical skills to even understand what you meant! Have a nice day! GoldRomean (talk) 17:52, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
