Problems

[edit]

I don't have any problem with you personally, we however are trying to build an encyclopedia here and thus articles submitted to Wikipedia must be held to high standards. I would suggest reading Wikipedia:Your first article for tips on how to write a article that will not be deleted. Whispering 03:57, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability and such

[edit]

Hey- I saw that you were getting frustrated over your articles getting deleted. I thought I'd explain a little about notability and whatnot so you'd understand why they were nominated for deletion. The most fundamental problem was that they didn't show notability per Wikipedia's guidelines. What I mean by this is that they didn't have coverage in reliable sources such as newspapers, news shows, and scholarly texts/journals that Wikipedia considers reliable. I need to emphasize that it's per Wikipedia's guidelines. Something can be incredibly popular and have a lot of discussion in fan forums and the like, yet not gain enough coverage to pass notability guidelines. It frustrates me to no end, as there are a lot of things I'd love to add to Wikipedia but cannot. A good example would be the comic Ex-Sanguine that Dark Horse Comics released over the summer. I loved that series to no end, but the coverage has been far too light for me to add it to Wikipedia. It's popular, but popularity doesn't always equate to notability. It makes it more likely to find sources, but it's never a guarantee.

Now I did notice that you tried to create a page on a character from Total Drama. This is where it gets a little sticky. TD is a pretty notable series, but when it comes to characters in a series, you have to show that the character is notable enough for their own entry. (Coverage that focuses on this character alone, such as how several news articles focus on Hermoine or Katniss.) Most of the time there just isn't enough coverage for a singular character to have their own entry and believe me, there has to be a lot of coverage. Sometimes some articles on various characters get ignored and fly under the radar, but predominantly I'd say that less than .01% of any character ever warrants their own page. I'd probably go so far as to say that of the character articles on Wikipedia, about 70% or more could probably stand to be deleted or merged into the main entry for their respective story. It's nothing personal against the character, just that notability guidelines are strict and notability is not inherited by the character being part of a notable series. Most of the time characters for an ongoing series will be lumped into a main list, such as List of Total Drama characters.

There's more, but these were the two biggest things I saw. I would probably recommend that you look into joining a WikiProject that falls into your interests and see if you can get someone to take you under their wing. Since you like cartoons, I'd recommend Wikipedia:WikiProject Animation. There's always a little something to be done. What I'd also recommend is going to the Wikipedia:Teahouse and just conversing with people there at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions. It's a good place to ask for more specific answers as to what went wrong and how to fix things. Now as far as editing goes, I'll admit that there can be a harsh and steep learning curve. I pretty much recommend looking for little things to fix and edit, such as finding sources for existing pages or helping to flesh out existing entries. I feel sort of bad that you're getting sort of a rough introduction to Wikipedia, since your heart seems to be in the right place. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:58, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ten Most Wanted 2013 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Pure original research

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hiya!

[edit]

Hey Goldrawer! I have to give you a small warning about revealing too much information on Wikipedia. Most of the people you'll find on here will be the decent types of folk that won't do anything. Unfortunately we also have people that come on here and aren't so nice. You've probably heard this talk from people at school or from your parents at some point in time, but you must be careful on the Internet!

In any case, I wouldn't mind being your mentor. The only thing I have to warn you about is that I work full-time and I'm also attending college almost full-time this semester as well. That means that I might not always have a lot of time, so I'd probably recommend getting another editor to mentor you along with myself. That way if you have something that you need to ask and I'm not available, you can have someone else you can go to as well. As far as other stuff about myself, I'm in my 30s and I love to read. My favorite stuff to edit on here tends to be movie and book related articles. Are there any books that you particularly like to read? That would be a good project to start on, either creating the articles or helping to flesh out some of the minor details on existing ones. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:12, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Whispering 11:53, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Speedy Deletion
Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia.
I'm sorry, but this has been deleted as meeting one or more of the Categories for Speedy Deletion. Generally, articles are speedily deleted when there is no assertion of significance or they fall into things to avoid or what Wikipedia is not.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written about the subject. Searching Google is the best place to start. Sometimes articles are deleted because they contain content copyrighted elsewhere. Such content can be used as a source of information, but the content here must be completely rewritten from scratch. Any deficiencies with notability, sourcing, or things to avoid should be remedied before reposting as they can lead to repeated deletions.
You may wish to read the guide to writing your first article. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to guide you through the creation process

what gives you the right

[edit]

Alex. whatever your stupid name is. What gives you the right to flag something perfectly fine. And go "It doesn't follow the rules. Sorry It doesn't follow the rules". As if you were a stupid child

I have read other arguments. Your behavior is appauling. Simply appauling

Not fine

[edit]

Alex was correct to bring this article (Zodiac Killer News) to the attention of administrators. The article was not encyclopaedic. It appeared to be based on a book that I cannot trace on Google, which makes it unlikely to be a reliable source, repeating allegations that are sourced to this book. The author's name was not given, making it more difficult to track down this book. Wikipedia is not the place for unproven allegations even about people reported to be deceased. Also, please do not make remarks like "As if you were a stupid child" to another editor here. That, to my mind, is borderline on being a personal attack WP:NPA). Others might construe it to be over the border. Peridon (talk) 22:47, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To continue, I've just seen your other remarks to Alex, which include "There will be severe consequences.". What sort of consequences would these be? And while I am still here, please note that Wikipedia is not the place for 'spreading the word'. That comes under WP:SPAM - advertising. Even if you are acting at the request of some mysterious organisation - be it governmental or private. Peridon (talk) 23:04, 30 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

sorry

[edit]

Yesterday. I was appauled. I spent at least an hour on that work. That's an hour of my life i'll never get back. Oh and there will be severe consequences, is not a threat simply an outburst of justice. For example. If you do delete my page. Perhaps the severe consequences might be any edit or creation of a page will be put up for speedy deletion. Only once however. This is not a threat to your life. I can assure you that. Send me a message back

Yours Sinserly

That is also not acceptable. Basically you are saying that you will disrupt Wikipedia to make a point, behaviour which will almost certainly lead to you being blocked to prevent disruption. While I realise it's frustrating for you to have your page deleted, Wikipedia has to have standards on what kind of pages can and cannot be added.
