Wikipedia is not for essay-writing

[edit]

Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia.

I noticed that you created the article List of tourist attractions in Salerno Paestum Amalfi. This is currently written like an essay or other piece of personal writing. Wikipedia is not the right place to publish that kind of content.

Creating an article from scratch is really difficult and usually not recommended for newcomers. That's because it requires you to have working knowledge of lots of different policies and guidelines, and it may be a very frustrating experience. For some guidance, I'd recommend that you read through WP:YFA and work on existing articles to learn more about what kind of content is appropriate for Wikipedia. If you'd like help with the article I mentioned above, please do let me know. However, I don't think it's an appropriate subject for an article, and none of the content currently there is appropriate for Wikipedia; see WP:NPOV, WP:OR, and WP:MOS. Dear Actualcpscm,
I wish to thank you for your suggestions.
Effectively, creating an article from scratch is really difficult.
Is for this exact reason that I'm coping the template of "List of tourist attractions in Rome" that seems didn't have any trouble.
Is correct? Golfodisalerno (talk) 21:39, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with your article was that it was almost exclusively original research and your own opinions, neither of which is appropriate for Wikipedia. The article you mention 1. cites sources for the claims it makes and 2. does not use WP:PUFFERY and similar inappropriate language. I hope this helps! Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 13:04, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wish again to thank you.
I will study deeply the template of "List of tourist attractions in Rome" at the light of your helpful suggestions. Golfodisalerno (talk) 17:19, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lungomare Trieste moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Lungomare Trieste. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it is almost entirely unsourced, and is written in a promotional tone quite unsuitable for an encyclopaedia. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:24, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing concerns

[edit]

Hello. I can see you are doing what you think is best to improve articles about the region that you've named your Wikipedia account after. I can also see that you've started editing on English Wikipedia after a few years of occasional editing on Wikivoyage and it.wiki etc.

Although I am sure you're trying to edit in Good Faith, I am concerned that you are rushing into making edits without fully appreciating how we work here. So I am asking you to slow down, look at edit summaries when someone reverts you to understand why that happened, and not repeat the same edit immediately afterwards. You do right (as I see you already have done in the past) to ask questions of an editor why they may have reverted an edit. That is a good way to learn.

Please do not simply add an external link to a section heading and expect that to remain in place. You can link to quality downloadable books via a 'Further reading' section, or use specific pages of a larger book as part of an inline citation by citing author, title, publisher, year or publication and page number(s). See WP:REFBEGIN. Do not, (as you did here) link to an information page on a commercial tourism website - that's spamming us with low quality content. Find better published sources to support factual statements please, and avoid just adding a WP:BAREURL if you could, please. You are welcome to cite published guidebooks, even if written in Italian. But please specify page numbers so other can more easily verify any factual statements you have added.

I sense that you seem to be on an urgent mission to promote the area you live or work in, and so I need to ask if you have a Conflict of Interest by, perhaps, being employed by a tourism company or local cultural organisation? There's nothing wrong in being so connected - but we need clarity as to your editing motives. If you are, then please follow instructions at WP:COI to declare on your Userpage any such connections. If you are being paid to create content here, then please follow our obligatory instructions at WP:PAID to declare such employment.

If you need further guidance, feel free to ask at the Teahouse. Regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 14:37, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for your substantial intervention which I really appreciate.
I confirm your feeling, I have an urgent mission to promote the area where I live, but I have no conflict of interest, I am not employed in a tourist company nor in a local cultural organization.
Simply the area where I live has a tremendous need to be known to the rest of the world and no one is doing it.
It needs to be known because it has enormous tourist potential that is very little exploited, especially in the English language.
As an unemployed person, I have the hope that helping to promote the area in which I live can improve its economic conditions and therefore, perhaps, improve mine too. Golfodisalerno (talk) 10:43, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is NOT inline with Wikipedia guidelines, please STOP now. Theroadislong (talk) 11:24, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I' ve stopped every action on Wikipedia. I understand that some similar (identical) articles can stay with no troubles and mine not. I understand. Golfodisalerno (talk) 12:39, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please see other stuff exists. Each article or draft is judged on its own merits. As this is a volunteer project where people do what they can when they can, it is possible for inappropriate articles to get by us- this does not justify the existence of more inappropriate articles; otherwise nothing could ever be removed from Wikipedia. We can only address what we know about. We have millions of articles but only a few thousand regular editors to address problematic articles.
If you would like to help us, you could work to identify other inappropriate articles you have seen so action can be taken. We need the help. 331dot (talk) 12:42, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Simply the area where I live has a tremendous need to be known to the rest of the world" is a promotional purpose and not permitted on Wikipedia. Our only interest is in summarizing independent reliable sources about topics deemed notable by WIkipedia. Anything else is a side benefit and not our goal. 331dot (talk) 12:44, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Simply the area where I live has a tremendous need to be known to the rest of the world" was to explainy action as not employed in a tourist company nor in a local cultural organization. Golfodisalerno (talk) 20:19, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There must be many well-written published tourism guidebooks and other academic resources in local libraries which you could use to add valuable content to articles on this area (rather than links to poor quality sources or Google maps)? Perhaps I could simply ask you to take a little more time and treat this as a serious encyclopaedia, based on really good sources of historic and cultural information? If you can do that, then your contributions will be worthwhile. But just promoting an area in the rather haphazard way you have is not that helpful. Take you time and learn to contribute more carefully and effectively, if you can. Many thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 11:53, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for suggestion. I appreciate. Golfodisalerno (talk) 17:17, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
