Condolences

[edit]

My deepest sympathies and apologies for the passing of your sister. She'll be truly missed. ~Gwennie🐈⦅💬 📋⦆ 21:01, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Condolences from me as well. Your sister was an extraordinary contributor to Wikipedia, as an editor and as a person. My best wishes to you and to your family at this difficult time. --Tryptofish (talk) 00:21, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm sorry for your loss. Flyer indeed was one of our best contributors and did much for Wikipedia. I echo the sentiments above, for I am presently at a loss for words. A dreadful shock indeed. JavaHurricane 02:16, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Die Fliege

It's good to meet you, even under terrible circumstances. I said more on your sister's talk, and included her in Die Fliege (the fly) which many editors show on their pages, as a little tribute to missed users. Take care of yourself and the family. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:27, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm still very, very upset about everything, including the WP:ARBCOM proceedings. My sister didn't accuse the other party of being a sock and she didn't threaten the other party. She did what was allowed, and other folks had also suspected or asked the other party of/about sock stuff. Plus, having used a wiki account in the past doesn't mean that the person was violating the sock policy in the present. So I'm thankful for the people who defended sister's name. I'm thankful for the words on her user talk and the well-wishes. Thank you. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 01:01, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your SPI requests

[edit]

Hello Halo Jerk1. On deeper review and consideration of your email and your further posts to the SPI involving Volteer1, I have now deleted it entirely. Generally speaking, it's not acceptable to publish an extensive quote from a private email without the permission of the author, and (aside from the fact that I'm sure you wouldn't want to communicate with them) you are now in a position where you are unable to even attempt to reach them. The quote from the email that you published was derogatory toward multiple editors, Flyer22 Frozen included, and we don't allow those kinds of unsubstantiated personal attacks, either. More importantly, there's no evidence that the email was, in fact, sent by Volteer1. It is much more likely that it was sent by someone trolling you, Flyer22 Frozen, and/or Volteer1.

Your family's loss has pretty obviously caused you a great deal of distress, which is entirely understandable. It's also clear from your posts that you have been spending a significant amount of time "watching" and reading Wikipedia, and communicating with some of the former colleagues of your sister. The two SPIs you filed have now both been closed as there was not appropriate evidence to support them. These things all point to you having some real issues that are probably beyond the ability of the Wikipedia community to help you with at this time. While you might not like this, I'm going to suggest that you walk away from Wikipedia for several months and allow yourself to heal a bit. If it is possible, you may want to reach out for some bereavement counselling help to figure out how to remember your sister without causing yourself so much pain. You've been a Wikipedian long enough to know that articles get better or worse over time; they get deleted; and Wikipedia is never at a point of stasis. I understand it has to be hard to see changes being made that Flyer22 Frozen might not like, but this is the reality of Wikipedia. Nobody who worked with Flyer22 Frozen over the years is likely to forget her; she is honoured with a well-written obituary, and has had an impact on several areas of the project that will continue to resound for many years to come. Her legacy does live on here. Risker (talk) 00:21, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. or Ms. Risker, I feel like I've been unfairly targeted 'cause of my grief and trouble I've caused on the Wiki in the past. I'm not unhinged (contrary to the other editor's claim), but, man, it's how you make me sound for opening those cases. It's been a long time since I looked at WP:EMAILPOST, and I'm sorry if I violated policy. All I remembered from WP:EMAILPOST is something about "no consensus." As my sister is deceased, and I made sure to not repost a lot of the personal stuff and only posted the person briefly badmouthing her, which is the kind of badmouthing she so often got when she edited the Wiki, I didn't think it would be wrong to re-post that for backstory (showing why I started the Cali SPI). When User:EvergreenFir said I should send the email to WP:ARBCOM and then you requested the email, man, I felt better about posting it. I knew my sister well and I know she wouldn't have minded me posting that to help identify Cali. It didn't badmouth anyone else, and the only other things revealed about my sister was which email service she used (a service she quit using), which I don't feel is all that private, and that she talked with editors about looking after pages in her absence. I know the latter wasn't private information to her, and she's not a living person. I also didn't post her email address. So, sheesh, I don't agree that there were "too many BLP/privacy violations" on the page. I can't think of who'd be trolling me over something like that. My sister had enemies, but the usual culprits, editor Risker, are Cali, Nathan Larson (who's in prison right now), WhenDatHotlineBling/RJR3333, My Royal Young, and I think a couple more. Even if trolling, the evidence led to sockmaster Cali. The similarities were there, and this person knew my sister is deceased. Who'd they be trolling? They wanted to troll a deceased person? See what would happen, like if my sister would turn out to be alive and well? I'll grant you that the guy did say he'd troll her in death for old times' sake.
You said my cases were closed 'cause there was not appropriate evidence to support them. But there was. My sister compiled most of that evidence against Wanderer and it's as solid as any evidence you'll see for a sock case. She was the best of the best at that stuff, like Ms. Alison said. That's why User:Crossroads said what he said in the SPI. I didn't file the case 'cause of a grudge, man. I really didn't. I filed it 'cause I recognize what's going on. SMcCandlish is another person who discussed the evidence and said it's good evidence. For this evidence, I also had my sister's permission to share it in the event she died. You can ask Crossroads to verify some things she told him and other folks before she passed. I feel like had it been anyone else who started that WW/SS SPI, there wouldn't have been a problem (as long as they let folks know they had permission to share it or if they hadn't let folks know it was from my sister's notes). I even told the group of editors that if any of them posted the evidence, it'd probs be a good thing to not even let folks know it's from sister's notes 'cause my sister's history with the editor might cloud it. But objectively speaking, the evidence is right there, man. It feels like this editor has been let off the hook for nothing.
I did take months off. I took almost all of my sister's pages off my watchlist 'cause, as you say, I've been a Wikipedian long enough to know that articles get better or worse over time, "they get deleted; and Wikipedia is never at a point of stasis", and it's hard to see changes being made that harm the Wiki (not just ones she wouldn't like), "but this is the reality of Wikipedia." I did like the suggestion to not look at the Wiki anymore. Mr. Zaereth gave me good advice. I said this stuff in the SPI. After taking all those pages off my watched pages, I'd only check the Wiki when contacted 'cause there are folks who would email me about stuff, like the Michael Jackson meatpuppetry that is still going on even though sister led the charge to put the Jackson sanctions in place. I also told some folks to stop contacting me about pages sister edited 'cause it would pull me in again. I told everyone that I wouldn't be back on the Wiki for a long time and that I'd probs retire. PLUS, sister had contacted folks to watch pages in case she passed (though, excepting for User:Crossroads and Ms. Sarah/SlimVirgin, she didn't tell them her health was compromised, and only let them know she'd be leaving). But then I saw that email, and so I started the Cali SPI, and I also decided to start the second one 'cause I didn't know who else would do it. I feel I've fucked things up for my sister again, and for the folks who shouldn't have to deal with the socking wrongdoing I'm seeing. But message received. I'll leave you all alone now. My mom has talked to me about counseling for sister's death, and I'm looking to take it on board. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 01:53, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Risker, you appear to be dismissing the WanderingWanda SPI because you think it's a manifestation of Halo's "issues" (your word). That is completely unjustified. I can confirm that Flyer22 had gathered most of that evidence. I also posted evidence. And Halo's evidence should be evaluated just as carefully as anyone's, not dismissed. There was no reason to treat both SPIs with dismissal. Crossroads -talk- 03:07, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will respond on your talk page. Halo Jerk1 has indicated he plans to disengage from Wikipedia at this time, and we should support him in making that decision instead of constantly drawing him back by posting on his talk page. Risker (talk) 03:23, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Um, okay, I read the responses (one there and the other there). I don't think hundreds of people have any of my sister's email addresses. Irrespectively, whoever it was knew of her. Now with all this acknowledged, if I can say one more thing, my sister always looked beyond the technical evidence. She alluded to this on SreySros's talk page. User:NinjaRobotPirate said, "Unfortunately, it's not that difficult to get around the CU tool. It's only as good as the person using it, and there are numerous technical limitations that restrict its usefulness." So I read that from him, and my sister told me technical evidence won't always be right about who's not a sock. She said the technical evidence wasn't gonna work for this case. I requested that it not be the focus 'cause I knew it wasn't gonna connect the accounts. Behind the scenes, sister literally caught dozens of socks who were found to be unrelated by CU evidence or were pegged by CU evidence to be extremely unlikely to be related. Just ask Ms. Alison. Or the other CU she worked closely with later on, User:Berean Hunter. One case my sister told folks about on multiple occasions as evidence of CU getting it wrong, 'cause most of the times she proved the CU report inadequate took place off the Wiki, was this one. (I'm stunned after reading it again.) On behavioral evidence alone, I'm befuddled as to how folks can say that WW and SS aren't the same person. When they both came back on May 26 after days away, that was the last bit of proof for me. PLUS, SreySros went silent and didn't respond. I believe in my sister's analysis on this, and I don't think a proxy or VPN, which are both easily detected by CUs, was used. There are other ways (for example, in mid-2020, sister talked about regular mobile data and then eSIMs having thrown a wrench in her ability to connect socks 'cause a user she caught behind the scenes said he'd gotten past CUs like that, with the mobile data making him appear in another state and the eSIM making him appear in another country). I know I have to move on now. At least my sister's notes were put into the public for analysis. Folks will be able to draw their own conclusions. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 05:59, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My post above me was amended to say "May 26." Halo Jerk1 (talk) 06:35, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Um, for a final word about it all (I promise), I also want to say thank you to the folks (it was a lot of you, actually, wow) who contacted me to say you believe in my sister's evidence on this. I wish you guys had spoken up, but I know most of you didn't know about the case until you saw the posts about it here on my talk page or heard about it through the grapevine. I can imagine the support the case would have gotten if some kind of notification about it had been posted to my sister's talk page, but I wouldn't want her page used that way even if it almost seems like SPIs should be advertised. Obvs, I am absolutely devastated that my case against Wanderer was thrown out. See the explanation I gave above me. From my line of vision, the CU evidence is meaningless. Several times when presented with CU evidence saying she was wrong, my sister would go above and beyond to prove she was right and earned the respect of a great many people that way. This def includes Ms. Sarah/SlimVirgin (who listened to sister's conclusions about socks), and I'm very sorry to hear about her death. I know they weren't fully in sync at the end of their relationship, but I also know about the year-to-year connection they shared. And I also know I have to get this off my chest right now: I feel the dismissal of the Wanderer case was a complete slap in the face to my sister's memory, a complete disrespect to her judgment, like she was just a madwoman with a grudge making a frivolous claim, and I (or User:Crossroads) was her madman by extension. It goes against her work ethic, as she would say, how careful and thorough she was in identifying socks. She was no less in her right mind when she started working on that evidence. The blood and sweat she put into it makes me proud. Crossroads's evidence was also strong (as experienced wiki folks know what newbies do and don't do). He just had the wrong sockmaster in mind initially.

Be well, all of you. It's time for me to heal as best I can. I wish all of you the best. Halo Jerk1 (talk) 12:59, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Take care of yourself, and come back if and when you want to. Best, Mathglot (talk) 04:00, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Condolences (Jan 16/22)

[edit]

Hi, Halo,

I just wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you and your family over the loss of your sister on this first anniversary. I think about her a lot and of the differences she made here on Wikipedia. I hope you’re doing okay :(

Anatashala (talk) 15:56, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know the exact date, but part of me grieves every day, and I miss her presence all the time, on articles and discussions here where I know she would have contributed, in some cases decisively. Sending you good wishes, and peace. Mathglot (talk) 02:48, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
