Status and Advice

[edit]

You asked me for some specifics.

I delete the article because it was entirely promotional, and I would consider the draft version equally unacceptable on that account

A Wikipedia article needs to be written like an encyclopedia article, not a press release--don't praise the organization or person, say what they do. Don't talk about the overall importance of the subject--talk about what they have accomplished.

Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to prospective customers--that sort of content is considered promotional. Almost everything in the timeline is of this nature , e.g. " Mobile Vikings visits several cities under the name Knarr. This is a way to get to know their members better and really meet them instead of the virtual contact they have all the time." Why would any encyclopedia reader care about this? Or why would anyone but a customer or prospective customer care about the progressive increases in the free time between members?

In addition a Wikipedia article needs to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. Almost all the sources in the draft article are either from the companies own web page, or from press releases-and are thus not independent. The only acceptable third party source at this point is the data news one about the refinancing. You need more.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. And keep in mind that the goal of an encyclopedia is to say things in a concise manner, which is not the style of press releases or web sites, which are usually more expansive.

And remember not to copy from a web site, even your own -- first it's a copyright violation, but, even if you own the copyright and are willing to give us permission according to WP:DCM, the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitable. (Thus, there is generally no purpose in giving permission; it is better to rewrite.)

Hello Happybuildingblock. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Mobile Vikings".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Mobile Vikings}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 16:02, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
