Thank you for your participation in the April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

GAN backlog elimination drives chart up to 1 May

On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, I'd like to especially thank you for your efforts over this past month's GAN backlog elimination drive. It has been nothing short of a complete success, which hopefully results in more expedient good article reviews, increasing users' confidence in the good article nomination processes. Even if you made just a small contribution, it still helped contribute to the success of this drive. Here is what we have accomplished this last month in this drive.

  • 661 total nominations were reviewed. 541 of them passed (~81.8%), 97 (~14.7%) failed, and 23 (~3.5%) ended on hold.
  • The WP:GAN page started at 110,126 bytes length on 1 April and ended at 43,387 bytes length at the end of 30 April (a 66,739 byte reduction in the page, about 60.6% less).
  • Excluding extremes, the longest wait for someone's GAN to be review was about 11.5 weeks at the beginning. (I mistook the figure when I reported to the Signpost that it was 13.) At the end, with the exception of one that was relisted, the longest wait is now at 10 days.
  • 63 different users participated, each having completed at least one GAN, with others also having helped out behind-the-scenes in making the drive a success.
  • The drive started with 463 GA nominations remaining and 388 unreviewed. At the end of the month, we ended with 89 remaining (374 or about 80.8% less) and 47 unreviewed (341 or about 87.9% less).

For those who have accomplished certain objectives in the drive, awards will be coming shortly. Again, thank you for your help in the drive, and I hope you continue to help review GA nominations and overall improve the quality of articles here on Wikipedia.

RE:Somerset CCC

I work there during the games so yeah I get to see a fair few. However because I'm working I don't get to take photos! How did you know I was just looking at your photo of SA's Women's XI at Taunton and wondering if you go there often? Creepy! SGGH ping! 15:46, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Well there was the French gendarme who stood in the middle of the road at the end of a sprint stage of the Tour de France and got collected in a multi-rider pile-up including Laurent Jalabert and they all ended in hospital with horrific injuries. Jos Buttler

Hello again. I've reviewed this article. No real problems except me being pedantic about references. Put it on hold for now, but it will pass easily. --Sarastro1 (talk) 19:01, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm possibly being a bit thick, but there aren't any responses on the review page to respond to!! --Sarastro1 (talk) 20:45, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm happy enough to pass it now. Seems like a good player for the future. Do Somerset have the monopoly on young wicketkeepers these days? :) --Sarastro1 (talk) 09:28, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Happened to catch a bit of him batting on TV today. Hmm, looks a bit special! --Sarastro1 (talk) 19:43, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

G'day, it gives me great pleasure to bestow the Triple Crown upon Harrias for your sporting contributions in the areas of WP:DYK, WP:GA, and WP:FA. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 11:44, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks muchly. Hadn't seen your previous talkpage comments. Aaroncrick TALK 08:17, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah probably, thought about leaving but I'm back, as sparingly as it may be :) Aaroncrick TALK 08:21, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Fed up, I guess. Oh, awesome stuff, never noticed, and nice expansion, too. Are you looking for GA? Aaroncrick TALK 08:52, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, just saw your userpage and congrats on all the DYKs, FLs and GAs! :) And I've given the article a copy-edit so all that I need to do is the sort thing. Aaroncrick TALK 09:03, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
That's great — only one List A match a year gets played in Launceston :( I think David Boon's era was probably the last where matches were often played here, now they're just played in Hobart. Aaroncrick TALK 09:09, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Think it's close to nom time; however, I'm not too sure about the last name thing... Aaroncrick TALK 11:28, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments :) Do you think it would be necessary to add a bit about the partnerships at the ground? YellowMonkey thinks it would. I don't know anything about them much but... Aaroncrick TALK 21:33, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Needs another revisit. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 21:39, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Unicorns

Hi,

I assume from Wes Durston that you were at the Somerset v Unicorns game! Have you got a list of the Unicorns squad numbers that I could use? I'm making my way through updating all the Unicorns player articles and it would be very useful. Unicorns is currently pictureless - did you snap anything that maybe of use. Not having a website or anything makes sourcing a logo pretty tricky.

If you could edit any of the squad, you may find the following useful to cut/paste to the bottom of the biog sections. I find it helps as the team/competition is new; especially for the players with little notability (we know what people are like with cricket biogs!):

In 2010, <surname> was selected as one of 21 players to form the first Unicorns squad to take part in the Clydesdale Bank 40 domestic limited overs competition against the regular first-class counties. The Unicorns were made up of 15 former county cricket professionals and 6 young cricketers looking to make it in the professional game.[1]

Somerset Cricket Museum

I've been working on List of museums in Somerset & there is a red link to Somerset Cricket Museum with a link to their web site. I've done quite a few articles on museums & old buildings, but know very little about cricket. Would you be interested in collaborating on doing an article for this museum?— Rod talk 10:59, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks - can you take a picture while you are there? Geograph doesn't seem to have one. I've thrown together a first bit at User:Rodw/Sandbox/Somerset Cricket Museum which you are welcome to edit, then once we are both happy we can put it into article space as a joint DYK.— Rod talk 16:54, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
I was wondering if you had any more thoughts on this, or had managed to get a photo or anything? I've been doing some more work on List of museums in Somerset & think it is nearing an FL nomination - there are only a few red links left including this one. The snadbox article is long enough to nominate for DYK - shall we just go for it?— Rod talk 08:42, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
No worries - have a good time in Helston. I'm away for most of next week (Glastonbury Festival) so lets return to it after that.— Rod talk 07:56, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for adding the pic. Shall I now create the new article & do the DYK in both our names? I can do it tonight or during tomorrow - then I'm away after that.— Rod talk 20:17, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
It's up - what do you reckon for the DYK hook - I'd use something connected with the history of the building, but do you want something more cricket related?— Rod talk 20:52, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Nom is done for 21 June, using your first suggested hook.— Rod talk 08:29, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Re the copyedit tag, in which areas do you think the article is deficient? Mjroots (talk) 07:23, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:54, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Twenty20 Cup Centurions

Indeed it is! I might move it, but then again it could be a case of the old English domestic one-day tournament having different sponsors, or in a recent case of someone renaming county grounds to match the sponsor name, which contantly changes. Maybe it is more generic to retain Twenty20 Cup Centurions given all the changes of sponsorship which will ultimately come about??? AssociateAffiliate (talk) 18:39, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Yep, I'd be in agreement with that. It will be a broader category then. AssociateAffiliate (talk) 18:53, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Harely

Yep, thanks, I noted that. I started doing a copy-edit but never finished. There will be bits that need tweaking so I could help fix these, well I was planning to anyway. Cheers Aaroncrick TALK 22:27, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorting help

Hello. On my userpage I am currently compiling a list of Barbados born internationals. As I am basically using the same table as your list of Somerset players I am wondering if you can help me. The runs and wickets columns sort fine but for some reason the appearances column doesn't. If you could take a look it would be great, thanks. Mr.Apples2010 (talk) 12:55, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you! It works now. I don't see any reason why it didn't work in the first place though. Mr.Apples2010 (talk) 13:07, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Izzy Westbury and Oxford

Ideally, yes, but don't worry too much about it. I got a bot to tag all the pages within the project's scope earlier in the year, and will probably ask later in the year. To be honest, the project's so small that it can hardly improve core articles within its scope, let alone run-of-the-mill articles about alumni and academics!
