More Civility

[edit]

Wikipedia's policy Wikipedia:Civility recommends that your tone change. You accused other users of being "racists" and being "dorky racist white boys" a racial slur. These are examples against the policy about civility.--Dark Tichondrias 20:17, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

None of "dorky", "racist", nor "white boys" are racial slurs, and certainly "dorky racist white boys" is not a racial slur. "Cracker" and "Honky" are racial slurs. But regardless, I do agree with you. Heaven's knight, your comments do not help. If you would like to improve the quality of wiki articles, you'll have to engage with a higher level of civility. The term "White racist" could be considered a racial slur for whites because people use it in a very race-specific, derogatory way to describe whites who may or may not be racist.--Dark Tichondrias 04:09, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh please. Does that also apply for "Angry Asian Men" since the term is used in a very race-specific and derogatory way to describe Asians who may or may not be angry? Hong Qi Gong 04:23, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
pwn3d!
Although Angry Asian man is a race-specific term, it is not used as an insult. "Angry Asian men" is a race-specific term created by Asian Americans to instill a sense of political action among other Asian Americans. "White racist" is used against whites. Its use associates Whites with racism which is a racial slur against Whites. The accusation of racist sufficiently characterizes the accuser's beliefs with no need to introduce race into the discussion.--Dark Tichondrias 05:36, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, if you say so. I'll now go remove the reference to "Angry Asian Men" in the sentence in the Asian fetish article that says, "Users of the term may be accused of being "angry Asian men" or just racists." Hong Qi Gong 05:40, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That would be okay with me, because I don't think the reference to Angry Asian Men should be in that specific sentence. The term was coined by a blogger to address his political identity and activist ideology. He viewed it as a social identity, encompassing much more than its three words could denote. The usage in this sentence of the Asian fetish arcticle is different. Some of the supporters that the Asian fetish exists might be Asians, they might be angry and they might be men, but in this context it would be a different usage of the term. In this context, it is just a possible description without its political implication. Since it is not the usage that the article Angry Asian Man supports and it associates race with a viewpoint, it should be removed from this sentence. --Dark Tichondrias 06:45, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
