[edit]@WP:MILHIST coordinators: - I guess we could run this as a book review for the Bugle if we really want, although it will probably need editing/toning down at a time when I'm no longer pissed off due to low book quality. FWIW, I attempted to contact UNC press through their contact form, but the form wouldn't process a nicer and more succinct description of my concerns. Hog Farm Talk 05:29, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- It looks pretty good to me as-is if you'd like to run it in the upcoming edition. I've also encountered books from academic presses that have been woefully under-edited. Nick-D (talk) 05:36, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Big fan of UNC Press, very disappointed to see this, especially from one of their more "serious" books. For the record, you are not the first person to notice the sloppy editing. I had similar issues with Patricia Daley's Gender & Genocide in Burundi : The Search for Spaces of Peace in the Great Lakes Region (Indiana University Press 2008) when using it for Burundi conflict articles (chronology issues, misspelling names of people, inexplicably calling someone a Vice President of Burundi when they were actually PM and the country had no VP, etc.) and starting compiling a Google doc but eventually lost interest and abandoned it. The forgiving grace on that is that it was based on Daley's PhD thesis, so it probably was just repackaged without the necessary polish. At any rate, I support the book review. Ironically, I think I saw this today at my local independent used bookseller... -Indy beetle (talk) 06:38, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Nick-D: - I've added a brief addendum indicating that UNC will be publishing a "Revised Edition" in a few months, out of fairness, but with that added I think it's good to run in the next Bugle. Hog Farm Talk 03:10, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, I've posted it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/News/February 2023/Book reviews Nick-D (talk) 09:33, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
