orphan tags
[edit]Hello There and G'Day
I added some links to AVANI Hotels & Resorts from two other pages as instructed. The page is no longer an orphan :). Appreciate if you could remove the tag. Let me know if there are more changes to be made.
- @Pushpithaw82: Done It was okay that you asked me to do it, but for future reference, cleanup tags can be removed immediately once the problems described within are fixed. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 15:10, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- Well noted, I was wondering If it was OK for me to remove it. Thank you! Good Day!

Please do not repeat whatever's causing the reference error: when your script's producing multiple reference errors, you need to fix it manually, not just go back and do the same thing that caused the error the first time. Nyttend (talk) 12:42, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Nyttend: Whatever is going on is caused by AWB itself; I'm not using AWB and a script.
- Could it be something in the article that is confusing AWB? -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 15:14, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- I thought AWB was essentially a semiautomated script. Not sure what's causing the confusion — I merely saw that it had two errors after the AWB run that weren't there beforehand. Nyttend (talk) 21:25, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Nyttend: I think of it more like downloaded software , but I guess it's technically a script.
- I fixed everything up, by the way, including removing the inline citations that were underneath the 'reference' header and adding a {{reflist}} to the article. I did have to remove a couple of references to prevent an error from occurring, but one can at least have some small hope that someone who knows about insects can now check over the reference and figure out how to insert them properly, or at least ask how to do it. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 22:30, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. I wasn't clear what your project was doing, or I would have happily done it myself — whatever you were doing, it was obviously some sort of cleanup to which I couldn't make any possible complaint as long as it worked properly :-) And I've never used AWB, but since I remember seeing something about bad-faith users having their access removed, I assumed that it was some script to which admins had to grant access; I had no idea that it was a piece of downloadable software. Nyttend (talk) 22:34, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Nyttend: You're half-right. You need to be an admin or be granted access from an admin to have the software work, but it's still, nonetheless, a piece of downloaded software.
- I actually go through check wiki errors; this one was adding {{reflist}} templates to articles that lacked one but had references. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 23:14, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Template:Welcome-Child
[edit]Hi IDoH! I've forked off {{Welcome}} into {{Welcome-Child}} like we were chatting about on IRC. I'm going to start work on it now, and I'd appreciate your input if/when you have a minute; I'm available by IRC, Talk Page, or Email. -- Thanks, Alfie. talk to me | contribs 04:31, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Alfie: I added a couple of links to relevant essays, but couldn't find a good, or at least non-awkward, spot to insert a "I have noticed you are [most likely] a kid". We should probably also add "If you are under 16, please don't tell us how old you are, or else you'll get oversighted, but not in trouble", and "Don't reveal personal information about yourself".
- Of course, there's always a chance that people might mistake a new editor for being a kid when they're an adult. That will inevitably happen with this template. So "I have noticed you are a kid" should probably be "I think you're a child, but [correct me/I apologize in advance/etc.] if I'm wrong."
- Linking to the Wikipedia Adventure was a good idea, by the way. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 04:59, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm trying to figure that one out. I'm fairly good at talking to/working with kids in person (five and a bit years in theatre trying to manage choruses of child actors will do that to you) but it's very difficult to translate that into text that isn't needlessly condesending. This particular template will need a lot of fine-tuning until it's appropriate, I feel. -- Thanks, Alfie. talk to me | contribs 05:10, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Alfie: Agreed. Wikipedians aren't always the most socially adept, but we should at least attempt to be respectful in this case. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 16:00, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
[edit]Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
- We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!
New Year Backlog Drive results:
- We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!
General project update:
- ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
- Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.
If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, go here. 20:32, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Please be more careful when using AWB on articles containing non-English text

[edit]About that tag. Can you make any useful suggestions? It is so very easy to be negative like this and like you were a few months back. Much harder to actually do some useful work isn't it. Would you mind very much if I just remove it? Eddaido (talk) 09:56, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Eddaido: A positive way to deal with that feedback is to add one or two wikilinks to the article and then remove the tag. You can also just remove the tag without bothering to add wikilinks, but then another AWB user, or even I will probably add it back eventually.
- I don't recall interacting with you. Not saying that I didn't; just that I don't remember you. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 17:58, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- When I wrote that stubbish item I made all the links I could. Why would you assume, as you have, that I did not? If you can find more please add them and we can have fun with that tag after you have had a good try. Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 20:38, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Eddaido: Here's a positive way of looking at my edit. It's likely that someone with more experience in article creation/expansion than either one of us might be alerted to the article via a hidden clean up category added automatically by the template, who will then add links and remove the template in the process (or, at least, they're supposed to remove it). You can also try expanding the article yourself, something which I'm frankly not good at.
- Or you can continue to spend time complaining about it. Up to you. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 23:07, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Trinomen
[edit]This is the second time you have changed "trinominal" to "trinomial" at Trinomen and I have reverted it. It is NOT a mis-spelling, it's the correct term under the ICodeZN, which uses "binominal" and "trinominal", although the botanical code's "binomial" and "trinomial" are more widely used, even by zoologists. Please do not correct this again! Peter coxhead (talk) 09:28, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

- No, I meant things like changing backwards and forwards between "== Title ==" and "==Title==", or "|parameter=value", "| parameter=value", "| parameter = value", etc. I see AWB users changing these one way, then another editor changing it back or using spaces in yet a different way. It wastes everyone's time by showing up on watchlists and needing to be checked. (I guess as a computer scientist I'm used to distinguishing between 'white space', made up of any characters that produce this effect, and a single 'space character'.) Peter coxhead (talk) 09:57, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Yeah, that's a common AWB thing. Certain editors have Strong Opinions™ about whitespace, and use AWB to enforce that at the same time as making other more useful changes. I dream of horses is generally pretty great with AWB, but as with any highly-automated editing, false positives do happen. There's been some discussion about it (One editor was even the subject of an ArbCom case, but I think it's a while before we'll see any kind of improvement in the situation. Tabs! @Peter coxhead: Just to add to what Alfie said above: The only way to not have an edit war with some users seems to be to not edit war with them and let them have their way. Of course, if someone else engages, there are ways of getting administrator attention if it's beyond dispute resolution, of which you're probably aware. - You can use {{citation needed}} after unsourced sentences or {{Unreliable source?}} after unreliably sourced sentences. You can also just remove unsourced/unreliably sourced material, but be sure to use an edit summary explaining why.
- You can also bring up the issue on the talk page, but it can take a while for people to respond. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 03:09, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Semir Ben-Amor edits
[edit]Hi, you edited the Semir Ben-Amor article a while ago. Your typo fix was not sourced, and seems incorrect. The other edits by dropping "s" etc. from links are not typical for articles or wikipedia in general - your own page even has plural forms linked as such, as they should be - please also note that you changed nationalities such as Tunisian to Tunisia/n. I don't see any reason for the additional row change for a category, either. I've reverted the change due to these reasons. Please consider this before reverting the undo. If you're 100% sure you can fix things by editing the article, please do, and let me know why. Have a great weekend! :) 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 19:32, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Clearly you mean something other than the inline citations and other ways of sourcing information, because how are you supposed to source a typo fix?
- And actually, the way things the AWB edit fixed the links is actually what's considered standard. Hence, why you are able to drop letters from links and still have the entire word appear linked. Please note that edits in userspace are not to be considered standard in mainspace. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 23:02, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Clearly there's a bug in the software you use, then, considering that it mistakes things like nationalities as plurals. I would not trust an editor that leaves no signature for a comment, but then adds a second one with the same indention and lacks proper English grammar. The edits you made were clearly a mistake, so please do pay attention in the future, even if you're using a supposedly decent automated system. 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 23:27, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- My previous "comments" were, in fact, one comment with two paragraphs for the sake of readability, and also, for communicating that I was sort of talking about two different topics. Having "proper English grammar" is not a requirement for editing the English Wikipedia, so long as you are understandable by others and are willing to having people clean up after any edits in the mainspace. Assume my good faith by not discounting how trustworthy I am.
- And what you're talking about is not a 'bug in the software'. Autowikibrowser can, at times, give false positives, which is not a result of a bug, but instead of thinking like a computer. All suffixes, not just plurals, can be linked in the way that AWB links things; like I said, it's standard. I might have miscommunicated that, and I apologize for the confusion. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 03:53, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Apologies on my part also, I probably reacted too harshly while trying to format and correct a few other articles. The plural/non-plural link bit is a bit tougher to estimate, as e.g. the AWB page itself differs from some of the edits done by people using it, so it's hard to say what should be the real standard due to inconsistencies. Regardless, no offense was meant, and I hope you have a great weekend! 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 12:21, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, AWB users can be a bit inconsistent with each other at times. Glad we got it cleared up, anyways. Should your revert be re-reverted?
- You have a good weekend as well. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 18:14, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to keep it with the nationalities and plurals as links without single letters being outside the link. I feel like it improves readability and allows users to click on any part of the word, so the ux is better. I don't mind if you revert it - if you have a clear view on why it'd be beneficial, please do. 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 18:40, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Actually, you can still click on any part of the link as far as I know. Do you perhaps know something I don't? I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 18:49, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Perhaps you can - I checked your previous edit as a preview and was able to do so, but I don't understand why it's necessary if the site itself is not really changed due to it. I went by what I saw from the edit itself - e.g. Finnish-Tunisian vs Finnish-Tunisian. I suppose it makes no difference, but could you still clarify why you considered the change necessary? My bad regarding the ability to click links, though. I do think, however, that even with that being the case as you've shown, it might be better to keep such | links in place, as the destination stays the same while editing becomes easier, but that's just my opinion. :) 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 18:59, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Well, I could push "undo", or I could simply change "18 game" to "18-game" and leave it at that. Either would be easy to do, but I tend to do the former when I come to an agreement with an editor that a revert of one of my edits was unnecessary. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 19:03, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Could you check if 18-game match penalty (we could potentially change this to "suspension", but I think match penalty works as well) is grammatically correct/used in general in this situation? I've always seen either 18 game match penalty or eighteen-game match penalty, but never 18-game match penalty - this was originally the biggest reason why I reverted the change, but if you can show that there should be a hyphen even in this case, I'd of course be happy to have it changed ^^. 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 19:22, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Typically, it's number-as-number, then a hyphen, then the word, at least in my experience. I can correct it, or you or I can wrap {{not a typo}} around "18 game", because otherwise, it's a matter of time before another AWB user makes an identical edit. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 19:32, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Let's go by these rules: https://data.grammarbook.com/blog/numbers/hyphens-with-numbers/ - https://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/hyphens.asp - I'll let you decide on how to proceed with the article, as you're more active on wikipedia and have an account. Your choice after considering what to do will likely last longer than my edit, and based on the talk we've had today, I feel like I can trust your judgement. 2001:14BA:8300:0:0:0:3:7431 (talk) 19:41, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Since "suspension" isn't a noun (a person, place, or thing), I went ahead and wrapped "18 game" in {{not a typo}}. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:17, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Kids for Peace
[edit]Hello, I have been asked by Kids for Peace to update the wikipedia page. I am brand new to editing and am not sure why my edits have been deleted by your page. I made the initial edits several days ago without issue. Tonight I made a couple of minor word edits which seemed to invite your edits. Could you kindly provide me with assistance so that my updates can appear without constantly reverting back to information that is no longer applicable to our program? Greatly appreciate your help! Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Team Kindness (talk • contribs) 03:37, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Team Kindness: I just want to start out by saying that I suspected all along that you had some sort of relationship with Kids for Peace. I just wanted to give you a chance to explain if that was true, and what sort of relationship you have. Thanks for being upfront and honest about working for them.
- First off, you need to go to your userpage and explain that you are getting paid by Kids for Peace to comply with the terms of use for this site. You should read about other conflict of interest policies; here's a brief summary that will do if you're short on time.
- Secondly, I reverted your edits because they weren't neutral and clinical enough. Things need to be written in a way that could be called "boring" by a schoolkid. People will sometimes have trouble understanding that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a personal website or pamphlet, and how that should affect the tonality in the articles written here. This is particularly true when someone is employed by a company, or is writing about themselves or a close loved one. You're not alone in that.
- An article about a non-profit that's mentioned in the brief summary about conflict of interest above is Coral Reef Initiative for the South Pacific; while brief and not very detailed, it's noted for neutrality, sourcing, and being properly formatted. It would be a good example to follow. I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:23, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
A message from 67.2.74.14
[edit]67.2.74.14 (talk) 22:40, 25 February 2018 (UTC) Shadia didn't have a Circassian origin that's why I removed this sentence. And you have like 5 references for that, though all of them are not trusted or wrong sources. She is an important figure in Egypt and her history is important to everyone and I'm trying to remove any false information about her.
- Next time, use an edit summary. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 22:59, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

[edit]i am not sure why you contacted me to tell me a welcome to Wikipedia!
I am not trying to be rude, but I have much experience of this set up, and I do like to be a loner on the internet. I would ask you then please NOT to ask yourself or your colleagues to NOT contact me. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.208.203.121 (talk) 19:46, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @46.208.203.121: This is one of the things that comes with editing Wikipedia: Wikipedia is ultimately a social endeavour, and editors are expected to interact with each other in the process of editing the encyclopaedia. You can expect to be contacted about your edits from time to time. -- Thanks, Alfie. talk to me | contribs 19:56, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Kids Wish Network edit @I dream of horses:
[edit]Hello I am a representative of the Kids Wish Network company and attempted to make the edit to our Wiki page as it entailed ALOT of FALSE/NEGATIVE information. The edit I made was simply representative of the facts on our website. Please feel free to check at kidswishnetowrk.org. ALl information entered in the edit came directly from our website. The current information on the wikipedia page is misleading and damaging to the company that needs to be removed.
Thank you
- @Kwnflorida: I figured you were somehow involved with the Kids Wish Network, since you were language that wasn't neutral.
- For now on, please put any rewording requests and reliable sources under a {{request edit}} template. Also, you are required by the terms of use of this website to reveal that you are getting paid by Kids Wish Network. Ideally that would happen on your userpage instead of my talk page, because of the target audience of both pages (people interacting with you are more likely to read your userpage). MOS:EMPHASIS
[edit]Hi I dream of horses, Thank you for cleaning up the Cross-country skiing (sport) article. I noticed one small detail, where you substituted a <em>...</em>
construction with a ''...''
construction, something that I might have done before my attention was directed to: MOS:EMPHASIS. I don't feel a need to make the change back, but I thought that you might be interested in this guidance. I'll monitor any response, here. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 22:15, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- @HopsonRoad: Went ahead and reverted myself. This might be avoid in the future by using the {{em}} template instead of , or by following MOS:EMPHASISs' suggestion to "avoid the need for emphasis by rewriting a sentence more explicitly." -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:55, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
