[edit]Hi JHH755, I have tried to improve the English on your article on Jingdezhen. It wasn't difficult - your English is good - but do go over what I have done because I may have made some mistakes or misunderstood some things, especially with Chinese administrative divisions. - I agree that J... Ceramics is ambiguous. Could be generic or could be specific. Let's just add in the Co. and that will solve the problem. No need for the Ltd. Regards, Acad Ronin (talk) 03:07, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi JHH755, I was not born in an English-speaking country, but all my education from kindergarten on has been in English. Also I teach at a major university in an English-speaking country and have published a number of articles in scholarly journals.
I have visited Shenzen (for a day), Shanghai and Beijing for a week each, and Hong Kong many times. HK is a city I really love. I can recognize some Chinese characters, but not enough to be able to say that I can read Chinese at even an elementary level. As for improving your English, I think the best way is to read a lot. Also, look at what I have done with your sentences and try to copy the style, particularly when you write your next article. In the meantime, I will try and keep track of your work and tweak it when I can. Regards, Acad Ronin (talk) 00:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi JHH755, 1) "Proper" in this context means "in the actual city", as distinct from the larger metropolitan district within which the city falls. 2) I have added in the words "in the city" after the 74. 3) Unfortunately, I have no plans to visit Shenzen in the near future, but if I do visit I will let you know. Hi, Acad. I think that what you are trying to convey here is the difference between the continuously built-up central area (396 sq.km) of Shenzhen as opposed to physically separate towns that lie within the same administrative city (even large towns like Shekou, where I was two weeks ago), and the official municipal area (2,050 sq.km) of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. I remember the first time I saw Shenzhen, some 30 years ago, when it was a simple village (still called Baoan, if I recall correctly), and I recognise the vast size of even the continuously built-up area (or "continuous urban area"), which is what you imply by the term "city proper". Hi there JHH755. I've seen your message on my talk page, but I don't speak Chinese. I answered as well as I could. If I answered the wrong question, then please post your message to me in English if you can. Otherwise, I might not be able to understand you. — Gavia immer (talk) 05:35, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
