[edit]

I took it out because it can give the user the impression that maybe what they did was not vandalism.

"If you believe there has been a mistake and would like to report a false positive, please report it here and then remove this warning from your talk page. If your edit was not vandalism, please feel free to make your edit again after reporting it."

Some "edits" are like this, and they can be vandalism or good faith. This was not, it was blatant. If a new contributor does something that could go either way, the message is appropriate, in this case, it was only one way, garbage. So, the warning should not be ambiguous about it. Otherwise they'll get the wrong idea, the idea that maybe it was alright. WikiDon 22:46, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deorphaning team

[edit]

Hi there, I was thinking that the deorphaning team should be a WikiProject instead of an organization. Perhaps Wikipedia:WikiProject Deorphan or something along those lines. At the moment the team is fairly unstructured, and fits into the the same category as things like the recent changes patrol and the typo organization. At the moment it's simple: identify the problem, then fix it.

However, I think that deorphaning is far more complex than that. I'd like to bring more structure to the deorphaning task, such as sub-categories, ranks of importance, guides on deorphaning, and so on. If there was a specific reason that you did not propose the deorphaning team as a project, please let me know. Davidovic 01:30, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the speedy reply. I've stated my case (I think more clearly ^^) over at the talk page. And I've also added a proposal here. Three members support the change (including myself), but as you were the creator of the team, I'd really like to hear your opinion on my ideas before doing anything major. Thanks, Davidovic 02:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: OverlordQBot

[edit]

Hello, Gurch. I noticed your reply here. Just so you know, it is against the rules to remove the sandbox header, as it contains instructions about the sandbox for new members. Thanks, and happy editing! Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 01:57, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it does. However, you appear to have some misconceptions about the way the rules work. Contributors editing the sandbox are by definition inexperienced users who have not yet learned the intricacies of Wikipedia policy. It is essential that we do not bite them in unnecessary ways. Thanks – Gurch 01:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but it is important we keep the header there, people have to know the header is supposed to be there.

{{Please leave this line alone (sandbox heading)}} <!-- Hello! Feel free to try your formatting and editing skills below this line. As this page is for editing experiments, this page will automatically be cleaned every 12 hours. -->

That is why I suggsted the function. And I don't see how IAR applies, IAR doesn't say "remove the header inexdperienced editors will find very helpful when they edit in the sandbox." Thank you for your concerns. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 02:57, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Of course not. What it (and this) collectively say is, if new users remove the sandbox heading, just quietly put it back and continue as though nothing has happened. Which is what we do. The idea of actually labelling edits in the sandbox as vandalism is silly. The philosophy behind this predates Wikipedia and is one of the principles it has usually followed since; see meatball:SoftSecurity. Thanks – Gurch 03:03, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Per this there needs to be at least one full cycle of warnings. Per this there needs to be at least 5 recent blocks. This report met neither, so I refused it. Continue warnings and blocks for now. Nburden (T) 02:29, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Eddie thinks that I will abuse the tools. I wouldn't do that, because I know how harmful it is to Wikipedia: abusing tools would be worse then vandalism and I don't want to do that. NHRHS2010 talk 04:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You don't seem like the type to abuse the tools IMO. T Rex | talk 04:36, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NHRHS2010

[edit]

It is not my fault that he does not know how to deal with good-faith comments. --Agüeybaná 22:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And I really don't understand why people were calling him an "excellent vandal fighter." Good vandal-fighters know that they must always remain civil and that they must not feed or insult the vandals. This user is certainly not an "excellent vandal fighter". --Agüeybaná 22:26, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am a good vandal fighter, although may not be perfect. What I mean is that I was hurt that this comment (I feel that you would be too trigger-happy and will block a user who probably just doesn't know how things work around here without thinking it twice, instead of educating and instructing. Today's vandal or troll could be tomorrow's Raul654. If you do not make an effort to help make this true, you're hurting the encyclopedia, and would do more bad than good if given the mop.). I wouldn't abuse the tools because that, of course, does serious damages to the encyclopedia, which I don't want to do. NHRHS2010 talk 23:24, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just telling me won't convince me. Demonstrate to me that you will not abuse the tools. --Agüeybaná 23:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've got to side with Eddie on this one, NHRHS2010. You need to want to convince the vandals to change, not insult them. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 03:04, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to get the vandals to change by leaving a warning on their talk page. When a vandal vandalizes my userpage or user talk page after a final warning, I have left a firm message to them telling them that vandalizing is very useless. NHRHS2010 talk 04:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think this would encourage a vandal. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 04:44, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here we go again. I only do that when a vandal vandalizes my user or user talk page after a final warning. NHRHS2010 talk 04:51, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But it's not a good idea, it's like you're screaming at the guy. I know a guy who used to be a vandal, (now he's a good contributor here!) and when people did that, he broke up laughing. I saw him do it once. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 04:53, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There are times where certain vandalism actually makes me laugh. However, all vandalism are harmful to Wikipedia so I just revert them and leave warning on the vandal's talk page. NHRHS2010 talk 04:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Who is the one that used to be a vandal and is now a good contributor? NHRHS2010 talk 04:57, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But the thing is, that was a very loud warning. Don't give him satisfaction. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 04:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was not in a good mood that time, and my userpage and user talk page got vandalized a few times. And who is the former vandal that is a legitimate editor? NHRHS2010 talk 05:00, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added diffs and reasoning on the badimage list to convince them to block the pic beyond the current pages it links to, but another editor has said that we shouldn't be able to do so because it was limited to other pictures and not as a curb for vandalism. Sagbliss & Sockpuppet Notice

[edit]

Hi. I was one of those on the receiving end of Sagbliss' rants. I seriously doubt this Rosalyn561 is a sockpuppet for Sagbliss (who repeatedly identified herself as the plaintiff in court case related to an article in dispute). Sagbliss' pattern was to lash out at others, not herself. I think Rosalyn561 has a low opinion of Sagbliss and voiced it. Bruno23 23:37, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and just noticed that you put the same tag on my user page. I was writing you a note to protest, but then I saw you removed the tag. Talk about timing. Anyway, the story of Sagbliss is quite amazing. I've never seen anything like this on Wikipedia. Bruno23 23:47, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey JetLover

[edit]

Section removed, I do not give advice on evading blocks.

Despite his disruption (and I expect he'll be blocked again soon), Arrnous has the right to blank his Talk page if he wants to. Corvus cornix (talk) 23:08, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That isn't right. If they do that, they're wrong. They can revert if the User is using their page to make attacks or misusing the unblock tag, but anybody has the right to blank their Talk page, so long as they're a logged in user. Corvus cornix (talk) 23:12, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:TALK#User talk pages: More latitude is extended for user talk pages. Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, though archiving is preferred. Corvus cornix (talk) 23:18, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See also Wikipedia:Don't restore removed comments, though that's just an essay. Corvus cornix (talk) 23:19, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's probably a different matter if they're indef blocked, because the Talk page helps to explain why they're indef blocked, but Arrnous was only blocked for 24 hours, so he can still do what he wants with his talk page until he gets indef'd. I just wanted to stop by and leave you a chocolate chip cookie and a glass of milk, both of which you deserve after the recent noise with TougHHead. I was really impressed by the time and effort you put into trying to reach out to him, and I'm just sorry that it didn't end better.

Anyways, enjoy! --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 05:51, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And on a related note, have you though about going up for RFA again? I've been looking through your contributions and you seem to have taken the criticisms of your previous attempt to heart. Of course, I'd be willing to nominate you based solely on how you handled TougHHead, but you other good work certainly doesn't hurt. Any thoughts? --jonny-mt(t)(c)Tell me what you think! 06:22, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barkjon's Adoption

[edit]

It's fine with me if you adopt me! I've had lots of experience in the Club Penguin Wiki and some in Wookipedia, but barely any here. But I know myself how annoying vandalism is. Trust me.--Barkjon (talk) 20:00, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you put the userbox on your page that you adopted me? On my I put that you did.--Barkjon (talk) 22:24, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You just beat me to it! [2] - Rjd0060 (talk) 06:10, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why this changed the counter...Wierd.- Rjd0060 (talk) 06:13, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your vote

[edit]

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a vote of (53/0/1).

As a token of my appreciation, please accept this bowl of tzatziki.

I feel honored to be trusted by so many of you. Wikipedia is such a large community, that my acceptance in the face of such large numbers truly is humbling. I will use my new tools to continue the tasks for which you entrusted them to me.

==Don't template the regulars==

[edit]

Don't use the standard warning templates to warn established contributors, like you did with Betacommand. They don't respond well to it. --Carnildo (talk) 01:03, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When they violate policy, they're the same as everyone else. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 01:24, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
True, and new users don't handle being templated too well either. --Carnildo (talk) 01:43, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then why template anybody? Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 03:52, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. --Carnildo (talk) 04:04, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the adoption offer

[edit]

Hi there and thank you for your kind offer of adoption. I've been adding things over on poverty today and some of my references look a little odd. If you wanted to give me some feedback I'd be most grateful. Hope you are having an excellent day. Wanderingatlarge (talk) 02:54, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The JPS

[edit]

I am currently in negotiations with The JPS (talk · contribs) that may interest you. 91.108.194.137 (talk) 23:39, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pay no mind, he wants The JPS to ban you in exchange for his ceasefire. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 01:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, he's usually up to no good -- he's trying to provoke a response, since that's what trolls do, and shall not get one. Thanks for explaining, though. Gscshoyru (talk) 04:00, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AN/I

[edit]

Thanks for letting me know about the discussion, and while it has already been "resolved" I've left my 2 cents anyway. [3] Anyhow, happy editing. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 10:38, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
