License tagging for Image:Seth3.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Seth3.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:11, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Seth3.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sue Anne 19:57, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Sethpubphoto.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sethpubphoto.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 00:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have updated the copyright information. Please let me know if it is complete now. Jheditorials 03:15, 23 January 2007 (UTC)jheditorials[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:New-seth-pic.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:New-seth-pic.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:SethPubPhoto.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SethPubPhoto.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 48 hours after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Donald Albury 03:02, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a link to the Seth Swirsky's Myspace.com page where this image is used as a promotional image: http://www.myspace.com/9691056. I have responded on ShadowHalo's talk page with more questions. Jheditorials 15:00, 9 February 2007 (UTC)jheditorials[reply]
It sounds like you might misunderstand what "free" means in this context. By "free", I mean that the picture can be copied, distributed, and modified for noncommercial or for commercial use, not that someone doesn't have to pay to see the image. For more information about the difference, there's an article at Gratis versus Libre. Unless it's explicitly stated otherwise, pictures are automatically copyrighted and unfree since the photographers retain copyright over the images. Although you may not live in California, there are a couple ways to get around this. If Swirsky has some form of contact, you can request that he release one or more pictures freely by modifying one of the requests at Wikipedia:Example requests for permission. If he declines, it may also be a good idea to put a picture request template on his article's talk page (just let me know and I can add it for you) and add his name to Wikipedia:Requested pictures#People. Since there are Wikipedians in California, someone can hopefully take a picture of him the next time he makes a public appearance. ShadowHalo 02:04, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice. I have sent Mr. Swirsky a copyright request form that I got from the page that you suggested. He has sent it back in agreement and I have reuploaded these two files With-George-martin-with-copyright.jpg and SethPubPhotowithcopyrightinfo.jpg with the copyright request form information. I have also sent this permission to "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org" so that it can be permanently archived. Jheditorials 19:14, 11 February 2007 (UTC)jheditorials[reply]

Seth Swirsky article

[edit]

What I said on Talk:Seth Swirsky a few hours ago was true: I had never heard of him before today. I'm a participant in the Wikipedia:Third opinion project, and when I saw the article come up on the history there it was my first sight of the name.

His Real Clear Politics article, "Why I Left The Left," really rang some bells for me. If Swirsky's political perspective interests you, you might like to have a look at two other articles with similar themes:

I'm enjoying learning about Swirsky and his views—very interesting person, a unique combination of characteristics, interests and talents. Thanks from one Wikipedian for devoting so much effort to getting the Seth Swirsky article off to a good start! — Athænara 10:29, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Dan Vaillancourt - Melodic Snapshots Album Cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dan Vaillancourt - Melodic Snapshots Album Cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:27, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Melodic snapshots 2.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 19:32, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Live funktified 2.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Live funktified.jpg. The copy called Image:Live funktified.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 20:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:MediasethNY1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:MediasethNY1.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:With-George-martin-with-copyright.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file, please understand that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Most content on the internet is copyrighted and the creator of the image has exclusive rights to use it. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others - do not upload images that violate others' copyrights. In certain limited cases, we may be able to use an image under a claim of fair use - if you are certain that fair use would apply here, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list. If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Geniac (talk) 03:27, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mookieball.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Love Is a Beautiful Thing

[edit]

I moved your article to Love Is a Beautiful Thing (Al Green song) because that fits the common naming for song articles. The Phil Vassar version of the Paul Brandt song is more notable; there was a previous discussion that said the Phil Vassar/Paul Brandt song should have the title "Love Is a Beautiful Thing" on the article. Therefore, I've moved that song to Love Is a Beautiful Thing (Phil Vassar song). Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 19:18, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Dan Vaillancourt has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability. No news items and all material cited is related to the subject.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gillyweed (talk) 07:00, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I trimmed back some information about Jain's companies that you added that were not about Jain himself. I didn't check to see if the information was in the respective company articles, nor if it has the weight to belong in those articles.

I also restored sourced information you removed here. You'll find discussion on the information on the article talk page, and more sources can be provided if you feel it is needed. --Ronz (talk) 01:09, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I moved your request for page semi-protection for Seth Swirsky from where you had placed it on the WP:RFPP noticeboard. Survey

[edit]

Hi Jheditorials!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! License tagging for File:Raleigh-degeer-amyx-in-library-permission-given.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Raleigh-degeer-amyx-in-library-permission-given.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Encylopedic style

Please see my comment at Talk:Naveen Jain#Encylopedic style. Johnuniq (talk) 03:01, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Priyanka Jain requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Live funktified 2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Live funktified 2.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.danvaillancourt.com. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:49, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jheditorials. You have disclosed at least once, here, that you edit for pay (article was deleted here). You have also edited in a way that looks like paid editing on Seth Swirsky and articles related to him, like on songs he wrote as well as Beatles Stories. You have edited topics related to Naveen Jain which have a history of paid editing. Your edits related to Mytchell Mora, Franki Love, Sasha Perl-Raver, Chad Marshall, Demetrius Navarro also appear to be paid editing.

Per the Terms of Use would you please reply and disclose all the articles you have worked on for pay, along with your employer and the client? (I am wondering if your account name, might be the name of an agency...) In any case, I can help you formalize that disclosure and explain how we manage conflict of interest, including paid editing, after you reply. Paid editing has a place here (not a very comfortable one), if you follow the COI management procedures and the other policies and guidelines. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 19:31, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- Thank you for your message. I believe the above articles are the only ones on which I have worked, with the addition of Howard Haugerud's article. My clients have either been the subject of the article or his/her representative. I am not currently accepting any new clients and the only article that I edit on a regular basis is Seth Swirsky's page. I do not have an employer for this project. Thank you. File:Carol with scarf 5.jpg listed for discussion

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Carol with scarf 5.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Please see the discussion to see why it has been listed (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry). Feel free to add your opinion on the matter below the nomination. Thank you. B (talk) 15:32, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You uploaded, File:Coolest-song-circle.jpg, where you either stated or implied that you had permission of a third party to upload it; or that evidence of such permission would be provided on request.

Unless there's some record of that permission, it's harder to confirm if any given permission is genuine. Wikipedia currently needs the permission to be explicitly proven at the time of upload, and recorded in the OTRS permission queue, for this reason.

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, which advises on how to confirm permissions you obtained from a third party.

It is also advisable to ask the third-party what source attribution they desire, as opposed to marking the image as having been "sent personally".

If permission is not confirmed, and recorded as detailed above, the media may have to be removed so that Wikipedia stays in compliance with copyright law and policy in some jurisdictions.
