Hey, i went to el colegio also. In the Ponce, Puerto Rico page I think it's better to leave the info box on top of the picture, what do you think? Cjrs 79 02:48, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
Lat/Long Coordinates
Great work with the info boxes on the PR municipalities. Could you follow the guidelines for the lat/long coordinates detailed on [[1]]. There is some pretty cool stuff beign done arround this.
Coqui
I really liked the article. I hope that you like the flag and the Barnstar Award on your user page. Keep up the good work! I wish you the best of luck with your Masters. You know, I have a nephew named Joel in P.R. Your wiki friend Tony the Marine 08:56, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Joel, I'm going to write an article on the Puerto Rican immigration to Hawaii. I would like to know if you would be interested in doing an article on the "cuatro". Since the instrument is commonly used by the Hawaiian-Boricuas. If it turns out anything like the coqui article, it will be great. Tony the Marine 17:42, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

Re:Puerto Rico article
Como estas mi amigo? Thank you for letting me know that you've been working on the Puerto Rico article. You've done an excellent job. I see that you want to bring the article up to featured status. Since you asked for my sugestions, I will proceed. The "inline references" have to be invisible to the reader, so instead of "Ref | Act 1950" in between the brackets, you must change it to "inote | ref: Act 1950" in between the brackets. I would also add a brief paragraph from the Jayuya Uprising article before the Oscar Collazo insident in Washington, D.C.. The culture section needs to be worked on. Since culture is important to the definition of a nation I think that it is important to write briefly about our music, literature and art. One more sugestion is to include information about our infrastructure. The type of arquitecture and bridges in the island and transportation, information about our airports, ship ports, la lancha amd system of public transportation. It really looks good and I'm proud of you for taking up this task. Let me know what you think and remember I'm there for you. Tony the Marine 05:06, September 11, 2005 (UTC)
I realize that there were strong feelings on both sides with respect to the outcome of the AfD for this article, now located at Alternative theories regarding Hurricane Katrina. I would like to assure those who expressed concerns about the content, tone, and potential for degradation of this article that I intend for it to continue to exist only as long as is necessary to draw the contributions of fringe theorists away from the more substantial Hurricane Katrina articles. Once interest in this topic dies down, I'll quietly trim and merge this information into the appropriate general-topic articles. In the interim, I will carefully watch this page to prevent it from being abused, and I will continue to work towards making this article NPOV, properly sourced, and useful to those seeking an accurate record of the hysterics that so often follows catastrophe. Cheers. -- BD2412 talk 00:57, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
Why do you say Puerto Rican is a race LOL IT is not a race?

Feliz Navidad
O.K. Joelr31, so you don't believe in Santa, but I still want to wish you and your loved ones all the happiness in the world and the best new year ever. Your friend, Tony the Marine 04:43, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Como Estas mi hermano?
Que huevo puse y que "Felix Navidad" en vez de "Feliz Navidad"! I'm gald to hear from you and I want you to know that I believe that what you posted in the PR discussion page was the best thing yet! Some people complicate their lives over simple matters. I wanted to ask you something since you are an educator and you could instruct me. I haven't been to Puerto Rico in 16 years so, is it true that English and Spanish are both official languages by law? I mean I believe that it is to the benefit of everyone to be bilingual. My children are bilingual and we're teaching my grandaughters Spanish. Isn't ironic that even though there is an "English Only" movement in the states, the federal government and the majority of the states such as Arizona, New Mexico, etc. have refused to approve such a motion? Anyway que Dios te bendiga, a tu familia y a tu estudiantes. Tu Amigo, Tony the Marine 00:14, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I uploaded an image of Ari Meyers within the the accordance established by Wikipedia (source and licence) and someone put it up for deletion because "it is unencyclopedic". Hola Joel. How's it going? I wanted to invite you to become a member of the new project about our pais. If you want to, just click there and list your name where it has the list of writers on the project. As you can see, the page is poorly formatted. I don't know how to build a country-box, but we'll work on it :)
I hope I can see your name there soon! Thanks and God bless you!

- Hey Joel:Gracias for joining! I made the Juan Manuel Lebron article today. I hope you enjoy it. I also want to invite you to collaborate on Wikipedia:WikiProject Argentina and Wikipedia:WikiProject Cuba, both of which I am a participant. It's very interesting in my opinion to learn about all our Latino countries. We have a wealth of talent put together! Well, once again, Gracias y God bless you! Your wiki-amigo, Antonio De Caguas, Papa! Martin
- Joelito, so far, you and I are the most committed helpers to the Puerto Rican WikiProject. I want to thank you so much for the template, and of course, I like it, it's pretty cool!
Thanks and God bless you! Let's keep on the hard work!
Sincerely yours, Antonio Roquero, Cocolo, Rapero y Regatonero Martin
Did You Know, Puerto Rico?
Hey Amigo, I was thinking of adding a Did You Know? section to the article Puerto Rico. In that section we could post little known interesting facts about our island and our people. It would be serve as an educational tool that would motivate others to read about our island. An example of what I plan is this:
Did You Know?
- That the first shot fired by the United States in World Wae I was in Puerto Rico and not in Europe? It was fired by Lt. Teofilo Marxuach.
- That the first opera in history to be recorded was recorded by tenor Antonio Paoli?
- That Puerto Rico once had a President? His name was Francisco Ramirez Medina.
I want to consult with you and my other Boricua Panas. I would like to receive any input. Tu Amigo Tony the Marine 19:53, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with you about setting up parameters. I received this message from one of our brothers: I think calling it Did You Know? sounds better than "Trivia." Trivia can be any random fact, like that PR has 78 municipalities. Did You Know suggests interesting facts. Smylere Snape 22:31, 4 February 2006 (UTC). I believe then that it should be stated as: "Did You Know? - These are interesting but, little known facts about Puerto Rico and its people". I will need your help in overseeing the section. Let me know what you think. Tony the Marine 01:14, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
(P.S. Your "See also Template" is great)
- I agree, great idea! Tony the Marine 16:39, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
Re:PuertoRico-bio-stub
Hi Joelito - it's not compulsory to go through the debating process at WP:WSS/P, but it does help if things go through that page first. Since it's the stub sorting wikiproject that does most of the sorting of stubs into different categories, we like to at least know what stub types are likely to be out there, and also like to make sure they're all named and formed consistency so that it's easier to work out what everything's called. Also, since the categories are most sueful to editors and tend to have a "transient" population 9things get stubbed,, then later get unstubbed gain then the articles are improved), we like to make sure that the categories will stay large enough that they won't be emptied by one editor in a day, so set a minimum threshold number of stubs on what's a good new category to have. In the case of PR's bio stubs, although there aren't many articles in there at the moment, it seems very likely that there will be enough stubs for it to be a reasonable category to use. And yes, you named it and formatted it in line with the other categries, which is good. The proposal business is a guideline to stop us having some silly small categories or categories that cut across the hierarchy of categories that currently exists. Grutness...wha? 07:45, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

You know what really bothers me sometimes? When people who have absolutely no knowledge of Puerto Rico or it's people start to edit those articles. For example, the Military history of Puerto Rico was voted a feature article and it even appeared in the Main Page. Then a year later you get some dumbnut that comes with something like this:
== Featured Article? ==
The article is sadly not one of the best Featured articles out there, and a prime subject for WP:FARC. I'm going to try to improve this article out some in the next few days. Something that could be done is by expanding the lead as it is currently too short. Also needs a copyedit. Thanks --Jaranda wat's sup 06:40, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Re:WikiProject Puerto Rico, Portal , etc
Mi Amigo, I just got home and looked over your work on the Wikiproject and the Portal. What can I say? Your work is excellent, you have demonstrated beyond a doubt your love for the island and education with your work. If I didn't say it before I'll say it now, I feel very honored and privileged to have befriended you. Endemic fauna of PR
I was just curious about the inclusion of the manatee - I always thought it was the same species from Florida to Guyana. Do you have a source for a separate PR species? (BTW - I didn't realise you were at RUM). Guettarda 19:15, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
DYK - Puerto Rico
I don't what the outcome will be, but I posted all the DYK in the Wiki Puerto Rico Project just in case. By doing this it becomes a section of the project and nobody can complain and we can figure out what to do later. Tony the Marine 05:31, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Collaboration
Thanks for the messgae, but given the state of my Spanish and my utter ignorance of accentuation, I think I will sit this one out ;) Guettarda 23:51, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
PR colab
Here's a suggestion: why not expand the colab a little, and make it to format all the Spanish used in PR articles? Like using standard Spanish accentuation, spelling, and punctuation any time the language is used in articles for proper nouns, organization titles, and quotations. And these should always be translated into English (well, not the proper nouns). And I think wiki style is to italicize words in foreign languages, so we might want to include that. Also, what would you recommend to find out what people prefer to use? LCSH? Know any other place? And finally, when proposing the policy, it may help to mention that Hispanic Americans are more likely to have the choice as to whether to use English or Spanish grammar. Just a thought.--Rockero420 00:44, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'll help out w/ this colab. Gotta run now--I'll amend the page when I get back.--Rockero420 01:26, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Regarding acute accents
See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) and acute accent. :) —Joseph | Talk 08:28, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
—Joseph | Talk 23:39, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

- I did the things you recommended. My next project will be the "Real Cedula" (Royal Decree of Graces) and then I think I'll follow it with the "French immigration to Puerto Rico". You know what I was thinking, why don't you work with the information about Puerto Rican birds and develope a featured article? That's what I did, after writting a bunch of mini-articles of Puerto Rican military men, I came up with the "Military history of Puerto Rico". Tony the Marine 01:45, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree with what your saying and arguing about the article. I'm actually considering putting a 'merge' talk to all the articles I think should be toghether. On the other hand those people are stubburn as hell. What do you think? Should I go ahead? I'm thinking yes, but I do not think I have the time to do everything I want with those articles (for instance the one on blitzball sucks). Any ideas?Nnfolz 06:10, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Puerto Rican birds
I took a look at those two articles on Puerto Rican birds. I'd actually already read the Elfin-woods Warbler article from its days on DYK. I thought it was a great choice for nomination. I made a few small changes, but the content looked great. Just a note on usage of italics. Genus names should be capitalized, species in lowercase and these two are italicized. The term spp. is technically not supposed to be italicized, but you'll see it that way on occassion. Orders, families, etc. are not italicized. Overall, great work. --Aranae 01:29, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

- I just got your message. My Birthday? It was good, tranquilo with the family. We are a very close knit family and we went out to eat, thanks for asking. I looked at the "History of Puerto Rico" and it's looking real good. Before you submit it to peer review, remember to add "inote" references. It you want to see an example of what I mean, take a look at the Military History of Puerto Rico. "Click" edit and you will notice at the end of the paragraphs some "inote" references. Your article about Fray Iñigo Abbad y Lasierra is really good, nice map. As you know I've been working hard on the German and French immigration articles and the Royal Decree of Graces of 1815. I wanted to checkout something with you, it is my understanding that the drowning of Diego Salcedo, was planned by both Agüeybana II and Urayoán and that Agüeybana II reported the results to his brother Agüeybana, who in turn ordered the Taino revolt. I'm just mentioning this because I didn't this mentioned in the "History of Puerto Rico". Tell me what you think, Tu Amigo Tony the Marine 05:23, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Sneak Preview
Hey compadre, since you're one of my best friends here, I'm going to give you a "sneak preview" of the article I'm working on. See here: Sneak Preview. Tu Amigo, Tony the Marine 00:10, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Compadre, great table, go ahead and make the change. The only modification I made was the Taino symbols. I want to keep them in the "right" side of the article because I think if the article started between two images it maybe too much of a distraction. Another thing, I'm going to get in touch with our other compadres here to see if we can decide who should be taken out of the List of Puerto Ricans, I think that the singers and entertainment sections are too long and that not everyone deserves to be there. Let me know what you think, Tony the Marine 15:11, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
I can create those articles for you.
I know you need articles on the Culture of Puerto Rico, and the Puerto Rican Woodpecker. I can do the research and create those articles for you. Andylandandrew
Suggestion
Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I think that'll I'll work on the migration to N.Y. Thanks for the title of "Puerto Rican immigration expert", sounds cool! Anyway, you can count on me, I'm with you. I believe that you're taking the "History of Puerto Rico" in the right direction. I think that some of the references and notes can be used as "inotes". There is one thing that I want to check with you. I'm not sure but I believe that Luis Llorens Torres was a member of the "Puerto Rico Federal Party" and that the party defended the ideal of independence for the island. He became a member of the legislature when he was named to the Camara of Delegates from 1908 to 1910. A confussion may arise because the Puerto Rican Independist Party was founded in 1946. Check it out and let me know. Tony the Marine 19:55, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- Holy smokes you're right! The only difference that I found was that he was first a member of the Union Party for which he was elected in 1908 member of the camara representing Ponce and then he founded the Idependence Party. I made the changes to his bio. I believe that you would make a great administrator. Would you have any objections to my nominating you? Tony the Marine 22:04, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
