Feedback response
Hi there! I responded to your feedback request. Hopefully my feedback will help you with your article. Best of luck! :) Pianotech (talk) 00:28, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Where to start on referencing
I was initially puzzled by the post above mine, but I now see that you asked twice about the same article.
Both of us gave you advice about referencing - that is important to address. You can refer to the links either of us gave, but I just looked at the Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, and it is probably the best place to start.--SPhilbrickT 22:51, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
I love your enthusiasm
I love your enthusiasm, but it might be a bit premature to be giving others advice, especially on references. Ironically, you are doing something I very much want to encourage; I obtained a file of people who asked questions at Feedback last year, so I could encourage them to return and repay the favor. I just started this project in the last couple of weeks. However, it does take some time to learn some of the intricacies of this place. One does not "number the footnotes", the numbering is done automatically, if you write the citations in the proper format. I hope this doesn't come across as negative - goodness knows we need more help in the feedback forum, but I hope you will get a little more experience first, or be careful to stick to things you are sure of.--SPhilbrickT 23:08, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

There's no evidence from the source [1] that this image has been released into the public domain. Do you have something else to prove this image has been released as you indicated? --Hammersoft (talk) 14:21, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
Long-term abuse report rejected
Hello. Your recent long-term abuse report has been rejected because it does not meet the criteria for inclusion. The user you have reported has not abused Wikipedia, so he cannot be added to long-term abuse. The instructions were very clear, so please read them before reporting another user. If you have any questions, feel free to message me or any of the helpers listed here. Do not report users that have disputes with you to long-term abuse.Netalarmtalk 13:05, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- Why on earth did you file a long term abuse report on me? Here I thought we were getting along well and I was helping you. What's up? --Hammersoft (talk) 01:08, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:OComCU 4c vert.JPG.jpeg
Thanks for uploading File:OComCU 4c vert.JPG.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 14:24, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Cedar Lake
I noticed the link you added to the article for an image of Cedar Lake, I was wondering if you have it up for review for possible upload at commons ? If not I would like to give it a try. Also thanks for the edit it helps. Mlpearc powwow 19:43, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Well now that I see your talk page you probably do, but if not I would still like to get it in the article. Mlpearc powwow 19:45, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Sure if you can, I don't have an account at flicker but I can open one and try also if you can't, either way :-). And I didn't mean your page is a mess, I didn't notice the all image post you have, lol. But sure you, me what ever it takes, the image would do the page nice. I don't know if you know that article was just saved in the last couple days. thanx for your reply, Mlpearc powwow 20:35, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- Cool thanks, If they need someone to register I can do that. Funny, I had little to do with the article being saved, but I used to live about 2 miles from there, LOL. Mlpearc powwow 21:48, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Portland Parks Photo Blitz!
<font=3> Want something to do this weekend? I propose a WikiProject Oregon weekend photo blitz! Let's try to fill up the List of parks in Portland, Oregon as much as possible by getting out and taking our own pictures or finding ones online that can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The pictures uploaded will not only benefit the aforementioned list, but they will be used for future articles about specific parks and will fill up the Parks in Portland category over at Commons. Get your cameras ready! |

Your signature
At Wikipedia:Pending changes/Straw poll, your signature is messed up. It shouldn't take up the whole page's width or cause a line break. Can you please fix it or just make it the default? —fetch·comms 01:28, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was just working on changing it right now. I'll get it in a few minutes. 01:37, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

- Yes, I know I don't have to request the creation of an article, but that's how it turned out because I wasn't sure how to create a disambig. page and used the article wizard to get it right. Glad the page was created! Jsayre64 (talk) 01:21, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, no worries; the above was an auto thingy when I accepted the AFC. Cheers, Chzz ► 01:39, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:38, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Block on the IP address I'm using
Because the block on the IP address my account was using was supposed to expire over 3 hours ago:
- I'd be inclined to grant you IP block exemption, though I'm concerned that the vandalism from Farve Dollar Footlong (talk · contribs) follows immediately after one of your edits [2]. Are you this user, or do you know him? — Tivedshambo (t/c) 06:50, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- No, I assure you that Farve Dollar Footlong is not a sockpuppet. However, I know him. He and I were on a shared computer, and when I saw him typing vandalism I tried to stop him, but it was too late. So I was about to revert it, but then ten seconds later Nakon (talk · contribs) reverted it and blocked Farve Dollar Footlong's account as well as the IP address. Jsayre64 (talk) 14:48, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Hey, it's not blocked anymore. I can edit. Thanks! Jsayre64 (talk) 14:49, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey there
Hey, how about instead of just tagging images for deletion, you take a novel approach and actually help phase in the newer fair use rational templates, it takes the same amount of time as tagging for deletion. The end product is a reference work with images in-place and the reader wins. If you don't want do it for me, imagine your doing it for yourself. That way all you added won't be deleted in 5 years when a new template come along or some new magic-word is demanded in the rationale. Maybe that future person will fix your images, instead of just tagging them for deletion like your doing. If adding the new template is too much of a burden, you could spend an equal amount of your time and notify me on my page that you just tagged an image for deletion. If your just tagging and not fixing or notifying, your just enforcing rules for the sake of enforcing rules. I would rather we work together to have the best reference work available instead of you measuring your success by how many images you tag for deletion each day. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 02:10, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- I believe we've gone through this before. If every non-free image you've uploaded is going to be the "person is dead," "to illustrate person at peak of career" kind of thing, just tell me that and I can generally do so instead of tagging images for deletion. If not things will be much more complicated. Unfortunately I have not received much help recently in reviewing the images of your CCI, but that's how it goes. You should read Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, so that these scenarios don't develop like this later. Jsayre64 (talk) 02:56, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

The right person
You're the right person; you volunteered, and you've been diligent about it. We all have room to learn about copyright; if it were simple, cases would never get to court because lawyers wouldn't fight. :) Just take it on board, and know that, fwiw, I am still very grateful to you for answering my request for volunteers. I don't know if I'll ever be fully comfortable with our image NFC rules. Some of them make sense to me; others, not so much. Richard has never been particularly gung ho about this process, but my goal has always been just to sort what needs fixing from what's good and call it a day so that there are no more lingering concerns.
Anyway, I'm heading out of town tomorrow, so if I don't get a chance before then, let me wish you a Merry Christmas, presuming that doing so is appropriate. If not, happy winter holiday of your choice. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:30, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Spruce Production Division
On 31 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Spruce Production Division, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that during World War I the United States Army recruited over 28,000 soldiers for the Spruce Production Division, which harvested Sitka spruce in the Pacific Northwest? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
