Scary Viruses and Spywares

[edit]

Memory resident viruses are viruses that are loaded in a computers random access memory (RAM). RAM is where files are loaded when a computer runs them. When installed and infected, the virus has access to all the key operations and can mess up your files and programs every time they are accessed. The virus only can react when the computer is on and will be disabled when the computer is shut off. These viruses can slow down your computer because it is stealing your system resources and they also can damage program data and system files.

75% of the world's computer viruses are macro viruses (computer language within a program). These viruses are mainly an annoyance to the user and a time waster. These viruses can infect documents and document templates. They can also turn of security programs and damage the system. It can also generate random computer actions and unusual behavior. The worst part of these viruses is the time spent to remove and fix the problems caused by macros. Macros spread very fast and if one of these infects a large network (Think Corporation) thousands of dollars can be spent to fix the problem.

A computer worm is a virus that moves from computer to computer across a network. The virus travels and can email themselves from one computer to another. They are sent as attachments and executed when a human opens the attachment. The worms then redo the cycle. The worst part of worms is that they can clog and crash a network due to its use of network resources to replicate.

Program files with the.exe extension are the most vulnerable to file infect or viruses. They attach themselves to these executable files and execute when a person runs the program. These programs are very scary because they are easy to run and are usually hidden and renamed to a popular program. These programs usually damage the program itself or your data files.

The mother of all viruses is the Trojan Horse virus. Just like the Trojan horse, the viruses work in the same manner. You are sent a program, game or new computer application from your friend, you install the program and when the installation process starts, all the viruses start coming out. It causes a lot of mayhem and can delete files, change your desktop setting and open up back doors.
