Good blood

[edit]

Hi Sean, no bad blood at all. Of course not! SlimVirgin (talk) 03:23, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

president infobox

[edit]

Sorry about the president infobox thing. It's not that I didn't know how to revert; it's that I didn't know how to get to the templates. I've figured it out now, though. --Allen 07:02, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi there -- I saw you blocked a page from being edited because of a "legal complaint". Phoenix Labs. I don't have a dog in the fight (was called in as part of medcab), but I think this was the incorrect thing to do (AFAIK, it was a legal threat made by an anomymous IP, which we routinely discount.) I'm concerned that a legal threat (and not an official letter from a law office retained by a party to the dispute) was enough to lock the page, and I think you should remove your page protection. Sdedeo (tips) 06:58, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did the legal threat come in the form of a letter from a law firm? Sdedeo (tips) 07:04, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will ask Michael Snow if he received a letter from a law firm. Sdedeo (tips) 07:06, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell -- you have not been very forthcoming with your reasons -- you blocked the page from editing not in response to an actual substantiated legal threat, but because someone claimed there were "legal issues" involved. I think you were wrong to block the page from editing in this case. Wikipedia must be responsive, and concerned, about legal issues, but it cannot respond to any old claim of legal trouble as if it were real. Sdedeo (tips) 20:58, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SlimVirgin's page

[edit]

Hi, Sean. I saw your message to SlimVirgin regarding the protection of her page. You may have seen discussion at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. (It may have been archived by the time you read this, but at the time of writing, it's still there near the bottom, under "requests for unprotection". I saw the vandalism at the time, and it remains the most horrific vandalism I have ever seen. I don't know if you've seen it. I also note from the block log that SlimVirgin herself voluntarily unprotected a few times, but that on each occasion the vandalism started again.

I mentioned on another post the old story of the sun and the wind having a competition to see which of them could get the man's coat off. It's not my business, but it seems to me that the wind has been doing a lot of blowing recently, starting with this. My own user page was protected for an extended period a few months ago, because of stalking and threats. It was before I was an administrator. But I know that if I had protected it myself, I would not have appreciated getting a message saying, As I'm sure you know Wikipedia is not a personal web hosting service, if you are looking for a service to provide you with hosting that only you can edit I would encourage you to look elsewhere. Please unprotect your user page. The language used carried an implication that the writer was in a position of authority over the addressee. This was followed by various other examples of unnecessarily confrontational behaviour, including a rather disgraceful edit summary at this now deleted page at 07:33, 9 January 2006, and then ended up with a request for unprotection. I don't know whether or not Tony knew of Greg's earlier messages to Slim, but in any case, I think the timing was unfortunate.

As far as I'm concerned, it's no big deal if SlimVirgin wants to keep her page protected. It is quite obvious that the protection is related to extremely abusive vandalism, and not to a wish to keep improper images on her page (as seems to have been insinuated elsewhere). In any case, there are no copyright violations on her page, as far as I can tell. (I know you didn't imply that there were, but such insinuations seem to be floating around.) I've no doubt she will unprotect it herself when she feels ready, and her earlier voluntary unprotections show that she can be trusted. But as I said at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, given the sexually abusive nature of the harassment, I would leave her to decide when that is. Sorry to butt in like this, but there's been a lot of wind blowing violently on this issue lately, and the (in my view) inappropriately authoritative language has been used to others besides SlimVirgin! Cheers. AnnH (talk) 11:40, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion Ann is referring to is at WP:RFPP#User:SlimVirgin; there seems to be a complete consensus that SV can keep her page protected. Also, if you're concerned about User pages that are protected, you might want to work your way down the lengthy list of protected user pages at WP:PP#Protected_user_pages; many of the pages listed there have been protected for many months, if not years. Series Templates

[edit]

I was wondering how to create a template for a series of movies, similar to the one for A Nightmare on Elm Street, where there was that box at the bottom of the page and it had all the movies together. I am working on some other movies and I would like to have something similar for those. Thanks.

      • I tried looking at those but I couldn't get the navigational box to appear, like on those pages.

My comments

[edit]

Why did you remove my RfAr comments? Where do you propose I should have commented instead? Everyking 15:16, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

I noticed you blocked User:Gmaxwell with an expiry time of 3 hours. After this block he has blanked user namespaces with what he justifies as image fair use violations...I understand this problem and his concern with this, but I find this act to be very intruding. Please see to it that he discontinues his behavior, as I find that he could leave a simple note on people's user pages, rather than going around assuming he has a right to blank whatever. I will report him if he continues, thanks. εγκυκλοπαίδεια* 17:59, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Poke

[edit]

I hope that me giving a good poke about the three hour block isn't sitting hard with you. I suspect that almost everyone else would have looked the other way, so in some regard you should get some affirmation for stepping in. Cool? - brenneman(t)(c) 07:46, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kamen Rider

[edit]

Can we discuss the dab line on the Kamen Rider article on the Talk:Kamen Rider page. I've posted what I think is the relevant statement from Wikipedia:Disambiguation. ManoaChild 21:09, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for dealing with it Sean. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 23:43, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

[edit]

I agree to the mediation again but we must make provisions that would prevent Ian from doing what he did before.

I disagree with you about what Anon Editor did but that is moot since I welcome your attempt at mediation. Zeq 04:59, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism by 207.62.192.18

[edit]

Hey Sean Black, I haven't talked to you in the longest time. You probably don't remember me at all, but I used to vandalize your page, Bushytail's page, and haunt you guys with sock puppets. But anyway, I'm here to report a user 207.62.192.18 who has recently vandalized three school articles. I noticed he has an extensive record of vandalization on his talk page. Please check it out and block him from editing Wikipedia articles as necessary. -- Big.P 07:23, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Need some input

[edit]

Dear Sean Black;

I have recently become active on Wikipedia. I found you through a few links from the Horror films section. I have created a possible temple for the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th Universe for use on all pages dealing with those two series. Before I create the template officially, I would like some feedback on it. Would you mind going over to my talk page and tell me what you think? It will be there in a moment for comment.

Thank you, Lady Aleena | Talk 01:33, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Storm clouds ... and silver linings Thank you for your support on my RfA.
Unfortunately, it failed to reach consensus. Nonetheless, it proved an opportunity to establish contacts and cooperation with many supportive editors, which will be beneficial to editing Wikipedia in the future. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters (t @)

Yuber

[edit]

Hi Sean, thanks for your note. I don't have time tonight, so I'll take a look tomorrow if that's okay. You're right to be cautious, because Yuber has experienced some stalking (different user names, different IPs). I've no idea whether that's relevant to this complaint because I haven't looked; mentioning it only to give you the heads up. SlimVirgin (talk) 03:37, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a development; see Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Yuber SlimVirgin (talk) 03:55, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Succesful RfA!

[edit]
Thank you for your support during my RfA! The community has decided to make me an administrator, and there's work to be done. I look forward to seeing you around the project in the future, and if you see me do anything dumb, let me know right away! Thanks Sean! Regards, CHAIRBOY () 23:19, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An Esperanzial note

[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sean. I just want to thanks you for reverting the personal attack on my talk page yesturday. Thanks also for your words of encouragement as it was just the thing I needed to hear. I don't know if you saw or not but I left Wikipedia. I am just now answering messages on my talk page and saw your message which made me feel a lot better.
