Hi, Luiysia; welcome to Wikipedia. I have reverted the text you added at Autism—Tics, AD/HD, and other Comorbities and rewritten a piece of it to avoid WP:COPYVIO. Please have a look at not only WP:COPYVIO, but also WP:PLAGIARISM and WP:CLOSEPARAPHRASE. While carefully sticking to sources, we must rewrite content in our own words. You might also want to view WP:MEDRS. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:21, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the assist, advice noted :) Luiysia (talk) 22:36, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE! My apologies; I gave you bad info. When I followed up with Copyvio people on how to scrub the article history of the copyvio, I learned something new. See this discussion. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:21, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh cool! yay for creative commons haha Luiysia (talk) 02:30, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I saw you were active in the Fashion wikiproject and was wondering if you could take a look at a draft I've written about the designer Draft:Sandy Liang. I was very surprised to find that she did not have an article because of her notability and wide coverage in various publications. As a novice contributor I would love your feedback and review. Thanks! Luiysia (talk) 20:44, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really active there. I was just putting up some pages on Roman footwear and then noticing a few other places that were badly handled. Wikipedia—like Western culture generally—tends to look down its nose at fashion and to not document it very well. I'm also busy enough at the moment that I can't really go through the full review process your page seems to be asking for. Since you asked so nicely, though, and are working to improve something Wiki so badly needs, here are the informal and offhand bits of feedback I can give you:

A) Your article is already well-sourced enough (WP:RS), well formatted enough (WP:MOS), and establishes Ms Liang's WP:NOTABILITY enough that it could just go live now. People can always fix formatting and other mistakes as you go.
B) If you're unfamiliar with WP:DYK, you should go look it up. Handled well, it brings a few thousand visitors to your page and they will very quickly point out and fix any glaring issues, even if the DYK review itself doesn't. To me, something about a Chinese American fashion designer inspired by grandmothers, used her own grandmother as a runway model, and/or gorpcore would be effective elements for hooks.
C) None of which is to say that the article doesn't have major problems:
a) Passing the length requirement for DYK is the only reason that the human being and the fashion label should be sharing a single article. They're entirely different WP:TOPICs that should be split even if that leaves the biography a stub for now. Compare Coco Chanel and Chanel, Donna Karan and DKNY, and—as an example of what not to do—Anne Klein (fashion designer). Even with Ms Klein's article, the WP:SCOPE is focused mostly on the person and the company and actual fashion is an afterthought. That's bad generally but correct for a bio page. If there's honestly only 3 sentences of verifiable information on Ms Liang's life besides the label, then she'd be a part of the fashion label article and not the other way around. On the other hand, some aspects about the development of the brand belong in Ms Liang's bio and in the history section of the fashion label page, although they might have to be worded slightly differently.
b) There are no categories, templates, or external links. Again, compare Coco Chanel, Donna Karan, and Anne Klein (fashion designer).
c) This is obviously something you couldn't've done yet without the page being live but there's nothing linking in from other pages yet. There's nothing linking into the main page even though red links could be set up ahead of time if this is actually a notable figure. Seems like maybe 2 or 3 mentions in the wild already. You'd redlink those for now and also look for other pages where you could appropriately mention your topic. Gorpcore, Respect#China, Old_age#Perspectives, and various New York fashion related pages seem like obvious candidates. Ageism and Age discrimination in the United States seem like they should fit too, although they currently seem to lack sections on looking down on old people's fashion and culture, which is what Ms Liang is pushing against.
d) You don't have her actual name or date of birth. It's possible she just has the English name 'Sandy' (not Sandra, Alexandra, or Cassandra) and absolutely no Chinese name. It's not terribly likely. That's vital enough it should be fixed before a bio article goes live even if it's a bit hard to find. For what it's worth, the brand seems to have the Chinese name ·, Sāngdí Liáng, which is just the translit of the English name but might point towards the right character for her family name. Also be aware that Wikipedia has a higher standard (WP:BLP) for biography of living persons.
e) Once you separate Sandy Liang (fashion designer) from Sandy Liang (the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC), you should also create Sandy Liang (disambiguation); create redirects to Sandy Liang at Sandy Liang (brand), Sandy Liang (label), &c.; and add a hatnote on Sandy Liang pointing at the biography article.
D) Any added info is better than blank voids of no content, always. That said, there's some small stylistic stuff that you ideally should learn about, fix, and not leave to other editors in the future:
a) Add the infobox that you see at Coco Chanel, Donna Karan, and Anne Klein (fashion designer) to the Sandy Liang (fashion designer) article. Add the infobox you see at Chanel and DKNY to the Sandy Liang article. That'll also point you towards some other important information that you're currently missing, like her real name.
b) Try to follow WP:LEADCITE. Generally speaking, there should be no sources provided in the lead of the article. Everything should be repeated at greater length and clarity in the body of the article and the cites should go there.
c) Try to follow WP:ALLCAPS and MOS:TMSTYLE. The fact that the magazine styles their name a certain way doesn't affect that we write Harper's Bazaar.
d) Personal quirk but I prefer easier and more accessible phrasing and easier and terser section names. I use {{anchor}} to say {{anchor|biography|history}} and then the actual section title is just ==Life==. I do the same thing with {{anchor|Etymology|Toponymy}} and ==Names== in articles about places. I know that's just me but it seems more helpful to WP:READERs.
e) Some editors will object to subjective, hedged, and "peacock" terms about what she's known for and what her inspirations are, at least when placed prominently in the lead. It's fine for a starter article like this and it's fine buried further down the article where it gets less WP:UNDUE weight, but it's something to be careful about.

 — LlywelynII 00:29, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback! I agree about the issue with the person/label sharing an article. I haven't done the most thorough research, but I haven't been able to find much biographical info about Liang the person separate from the brand; since she founded her brand at a young age most of the information about her is limited to where she grew up and some stuff about her father's restaurant. I'll rework this article to be about the brand specifically and put the biographical info into the
I do find it somewhat likely that her legal name is actually Sandy, assuming the Chinese name on her site is correct. It's not really unusual for Asian immigrants to give their kids English names that English-speakers might consider nicknames, since they want it to be the same as the version in their language. (example: Jenny Han)
I'll polish up this article and publish it, thanks :) Luiysia (talk) 18:08, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Patty Aubery moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Patty Aubery, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello, Luiysia,

You just started an AFD on an article and AFDs run at least a week. You can work on improving the article in question but do not take action on the article (Merger, Redirect, blanking, Moving, etc.) until the AFD discussion is closed. Your actions were especially improper as you were the editor who nominated the article for deletion. It's not your call to close the discussion. Please do not jump the gun in any future AFDs you start. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:46, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Meetup for Wikidata Day

[edit]

Hello! This is User:Luiysia (IRL name is Kelly). My main interests are fashion, music, literature, and history. I am fairly new to Wikipedia editing and I found that there has been very little activity from the Chicago Wikipedia user group since 2020.

I'd like to host a casual meetup in Chicago to celebrate Wikidata Day on Saturday, October 26.

Proposed location is Engine Coffee in the Wicker Park/West Town area, at 11AM.

Here is the official meetup page, where you can add yourself as an attendee.

(If you would prefer not to see messages like this, go ahead and take yourself off this list.)

Hope to see you all there!

The meetup will start at The Bourgeois Pig, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, at 11 AM.

Here is the official meetup page, where you can add yourself as an attendee. See you soon!

(If you would prefer not to see messages for Chicago meetups, go ahead and take yourself off this list.)
