Have you any spare time to adopt another user?

Hi MDCollins, just wondering whether you might have the spare capacity to take on another adoptee? I joined Wikipedia on 19 July 2007 and, added several links to See also sections - which, at the time, I thought were appropriate - not realising it would lead to an indefinite block 3 days later! The administrator who blocked me advised me to get a mentor, which is the reason for contacting you. I have read many Wikipedia policies, and just need clarification on ones that seem less obvious to me. For example, when correcting inaccurate text, I ignorantly thought revert ONLY referred to the undo button. Amongst several other reasons, one reason for contacting you is because, you don't seem to block users which, I think is good for Wikipedia (i.e. warnings are probably better). Look forward to hearing from you, if you have spare time? Standardname 02:37, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 7 August, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Helmholtz pitch notation, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Marcus' shirt

I am lucky enough to own one of Marcus' England ODI shirts with his signature on it, do you think you could use a photograph of it in the article? Thought I would ask seeing as I had it. Let me know SGGH speak! 17:40, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Have put it on the talk page for you SGGH speak! 22:30, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Infobox

Ah, hehe. Of course - no problem, no problem. AllynJ 12:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Kind of done, although it's currently 20px wider than the others, and whilst I know what's doing it I can't work out *why* it's doing it. Hrrm. AllynJ 14:09, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Fairly sure it's possible, though it'll look a bit odd in practice. I'll give it a shot. AllynJ 16:37, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Infobox

Iv made a very slight alternative to the top flag and country (see User:Joe p15/Sandbox) to consider which I think looks a lot better and you might want to include in your previews? I don't know, see what do you think. I didn't want to clutter your new summary with it and put off new discussers so I came to you direct! Joe p15 14:15, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

He's given it his backing! Joe p15 14:47, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I've made an effort with incorporating your excellent work! (User:Joe p15/Sandbox2). I've added an extra heading to solve the colouring problem. As for colspans, I fear that the only way to solve it would be to have a function on every colspan for every alternative of TOFC. If that is the case, I think that the stats being to the left of the box looks fine! (User:Joe p15/Sandbox3). There seems to be a problem selecting TOF (User:Joe_p15/Sandbox4) which I have no idea how to solve. Also I can't help you with column widths either. Thanks, keep up the good work Joe p15 09:14, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I think we're nearly there! Joe p15 12:12, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

"I'm going to experiment with a different column setup and see what happens." Good luck! JH (talk page) 09:13, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Very minor suggestion, do you think that we should change the name of "Final test", "Final ODI" etc. to "Last test", "Last ODI" so that for existing players you can put the latest tests the players have played in without declaring it as being their final one? Joe p15 11:31, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok, no problem Joe p15 11:36, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
As requested on my talk page, examples of players where I'd want different columns from the standard four. For Trent Johnston, I'd like to have columns as ODIs, First Class, List A, ICC Trophy. For say, Ravi Bopara you might want ODI, First Class, List A and Twenty20. For some players you may want to include First Class, List A, Under-19 Test and Under-19 ODI. There's several possibilities I guess. That's why I think customisable headings is the way to go. Andrew nixon 11:53, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

You've not linked to the Trent Johnston example properly on my talk page! For the Ireland flag, you can use the flag of the Ireland cricket team as in the current Trent Johnston article's infobox. Andrew nixon 14:18, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Looks good! West Indies would also suffer from the flag problem, though they are the only other one that springs to mind. two exceptions shouldn't be too hard to code should it? Andrew nixon 14:25, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
One more problem... the way I read the code, it currently goes to {{{country}}} cricket team. Some articles have not been created in that format, and are without redirects, and most aren't in that format anyway. Not sure how you'd get round that though. Andrew nixon 14:27, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I see you'r frantically working on the sandbox! I'v got a couple of things to implement, I've got a solution to align the headings on the stats to the left and also to stop the squad number wrapping but I'll wait until you'v finished! Joe p15 15:37, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Right I've had my go, see what you think, I did it on top of what you had already done so no need to revert or anything. Cheers Joe p15 16:10, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I've got an idea, I'll try changing size of some of the text, give me a few minutes, I'll see what I can rustle up! Joe p15 16:22, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
What dya think to that? I think we can let the odd wrap slide as with lyttelton because they wont be many so long i dont think Joe p15 16:43, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, getting better. What happens if the First stats column was small and bold, just doesn't stand out like the others. I might try forcing a line break in the Lyttleton think just to tidy it up if its going to wrap anyway. I've also made a 'height' conversion update. Will do that now. –MDCollins (talk) 16:59, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Yea I know what you mean. The  's were there to make sure that the whole fixture goes down incase wrapping is needed rather thatn just half of it. What issues are left? is it just the womens cricket team link? Joe p15 23:49, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Just thought I'd let you know the infobox has been moved (quite rightly!) from international cricketer to just cricketer, its now here Template:Infobox cricketer biography, I've moved the talk page and changed links. Joe p15 19:18, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

List of Danish women ODI cricketers

Redirected to itself. I was a bit confused when I saw you were an experienced editor. Anyway, it's up for speedy deletion now. Alex9788 15:35, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Yep, sorry about that - also forgot WP:CSD#R1 when create some more 'future redirects'. Apologies to all. –MDCollins (talk) 16:07, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh right, no problem. Thanks for your reply, Alex9788 18:42, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Well done

I, Johnlp, award User:Mdcollins1984 a cricket barnstar for excellent work on Template:Infobox cricketer biography. Johnlp 20:59, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Cornish Place-names

Thanks for your encouragment:

You said at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cornwall: "If you plan to do this, perhaps rather than a list, a brief history (if known) could accompany each. For example "Fore Street" is named due to x and y. Towns with Fore Street include Helston, Camborne, Penzance etc...Also you need to be sure that they are more frequent in Cornwall than else where - why is this? You're cited refs should help with this. Perhaps Common place-names in Cornwall or Common street-names in Cornwall might be more appropriate page title. Just some thoughts, I'd be happy to read through what you do - it does sound an interesting article. –MDCollins (talk) 10:49, 25 August 2007 (UTC)"

There are already pages Fore Street and Churchtownand Churchtown, Cornwall, indicating prevalence in the UK of these names. High Cross is a place-name and a street-name. I'll send you a first draft, if that's OK. Best wishes. Vernon White . . . Talk 15:01, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
