Ann or Anne Gloag?
[edit]Hi there, I've noticed you've recorrected the spelling of Stagecoach founder Ann(e) Gloag's name. I've always seen her referred to as Ann, not Anne. Though not an accurate scientific result by any manner of means, Ann Gloag results in far more hits for the desired person than Anne, including her profile on the Mercy Ships charity website, which as you probably know Ann is heavily involved with. Her full name appears as Ann Heron Gloag on several websites (Scotsman's Great Scots) also.
- Sorry, I didn't realise it was a contentious issue. I checked the spelling on the BBC's website, but I guess I should have been more thorough. Have changed it on both the Stagecoach Group page and the Brian Souter page.
- No worries. Certainly not contentious by any manner of means, just that if an article on her were to be created it would point in the wrong direction. --Ayrshire--77 17:14, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Categories of George Heriot's School
[edit]I removed Category:Edinburgh from the article on George Heriot's School because this category is already included in Category:Schools in Edinburgh (see Wikipedia:Categorization).
As another inhabitant of Edinburgh (at Heriot-Watt though), I am happy to see you working on these articles.
Cheers, Jitse Niesen 15:19, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I just thought it should have a category, and so copied the ones from Fettes College (apart from Category:Public schools in Scotland as the whole public/private thing confuses me.) I guess the same logic should be applied for the other schools then. Maccoinnich 15:38, Mar 31, 2005 (UTC)
North East Fife
[edit]I noticed you added the statement that North East Fife (UK Parliament constituency) was created in 2005. We seem to have a result for 2001 for the same constituency. I know that the boundaries were redrawn, but if the name has remained the same and the area similar, it hardly makes it a new constituency. Do you have an earlier date for the creation of the constituency at all? Chris talk back 00:09, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
- No, I don't really know any more about the constituency than anybody else. The text is just generic text that was put in for every constituency in Scotland. IIRC, I was just trying to merge some pages, as there was more than one page describing North East Fife, and I turned the other into a redirect Maccoinnich 16:08, May 11, 2005 (UTC)
Re: IAIS high speed
[edit]79 mph is currently the normal speed limit for passenger trains in the US and was used as a marker to get initial estimates for the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative. The eventual goal is to get passenger train speeds up to and above 110 throughout the MWRRI system. The system is a series of routes emanating from Chicago to population centers throughout the Midwest such as Minneapolis, Iowa City, St. Louis, Indianapolis and Detroit. See [1] (Minnesota DOT), [2] (Illinois DOT), [3] (Michigan DOT), and others if you Google for "Midwest Regional Rail Initiative". slambo 13:23, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
Tuition fees in Scotland
[edit]Glad you clarified the Scottish position. I wonder if it is also worth mentionig the graduate endowment (£2000?) and how it is currenly repaid. Will it continue to exist under the new fees regime - and at what level? Also, what of English/Welsh/Irish students studying in Scotland - is their fee rang £0-£3000 and are the Scottish Unis subject to OFFA? -Splash 16:01, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks. I just left some comments on the Talk:Top-up fees page. Probably more useful to work it out there Maccoinnich 16:08, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

Scottish Wikipedians' notice board
[edit]As you're obviously Scottish, and have made a lot of good edits/new articles, I thought I'd let you know that someone has started up a page for Scottish users -

[edit]Excellent new section at P:S. You must be a mindreader: I have been meaning to put that "37th" bit in for about three weeks, but never got round to it. The other two titbits are new to me. Thanks.--Mais oui! 23:42, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Whisky
[edit]Howdy. I just updated the page for Talisker. I noticed you in the history, and that you are in Scotland. Are you, or do you know of anyone interested in helping maintain the various whiskies in wikipedia? I have quite an extensive collection and could add many images and various facts, but I'd like help. Avriette 18:51, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

I think that this is a rather important discussion for editors interested in Scotland-related articles, especially Scottish politics and Scottish biographical articles (particularly local history). Please have a read and ponder, and contribute to the debate if you like. Thanks. --Mais oui! 17:43, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- It would also be relevant in this context to consider the discussions in Category talk:British MPs. I find it regrettable that Mais oui! has engaged in a restructuring of that category without entering into the discussions there. --BrownHairedGirl 17:49, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_July_23#Category:Members_of_the_United_Kingdom_Parliament_from_Scottish_constituencies is just about to close. I would really appreciate your contribution, because this debate needs some serious input. --Mais oui! 09:49, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Architecture Wikiproject
[edit]Hi, many thanks for all your architecture and design edits. I was wondering if you might be interested in joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture. Also we've been revamping the Architecture Portal and nominations to Portal:Architecture/Selected picture candidates and Portal:Architecture/Selected article candidates will always be welcome.--Mcginnly | Natter 09:59, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Pre-script: we are currently undergoing peer review, see: Wikipedia:Peer review/Scotland.
I am beginning to think that the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board is not the best vehicle for pushing up the quality of the Scotland article (we ought to try to get it to WP:FA, in order to get into Wikipedia:Version 0.5, or, failing that, Wikipedia:Version 1.0), and the other key Scottish articles. It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that we really ought to start up the long-mooted WikiProject Scotland.
Most of the stuff at the notice board (at least on the bottom half) is actually WikiProject material anyway, and the Talk page is really being used as a WikiProject talk already! The notice board should be just that: for bunging up brief notices and signposts. I am thinking of launching a Wikiproject and correspondingly radically clearing out, and chopping down, the noticeboard (a re-launch if you like). The Scotland Portal concept is fine (but currently mediocre/undynamic content), but in stasis: it needs a good kick up the jacksie.
For comparison, have a look at:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Norway
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia
- Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Peru
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Hong Kong
- etc.
And, if you are at a loose end, have a look at:
- Wikipedia:Version 0.5 Nominations
- Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Nominations
- Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/WPPlaces
- Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Medieval Scotland articles by quality
- Wikipedia:WikiProject
- Wikipedia:WikiProject/Best practices
Thoughts? Please express them here. --Mais oui! 18:42, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Following a successful period of consultation WikiProject Scotland has now been launched. As a participant in the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board I wonder if you may be interested in this new endeavour too? If so, please sign-up here. The WikiProject will be replacing some of the functions of the notice board, especially those in the lower half.
While I am here, please also have a look at the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Scotland and give it a "Watch". It was started up by User:Visviva a few days ago, after long being mooted at the notice board, and effectively replaces all the AfD listings at the notice board. Being a transclusion of all the on-going discussions it is a much more useful tool.
Even if you do not want to spend too much time on the WikiProject, please give it a "Watch" and feel free to contribute to Talk page discussions: the more contributors the merrier.
All the best. --Mais oui! 11:20, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
WP:SCOWNB Participants merger with WP:SCO
[edit]As I hope you may have seen I am attempting to tidy up WP:SCOWNB by removing old notices and the duplication that has emerged since the creation of WP:SCO. One of the latter issues is that there are lists of active Wikipedians on both locations which overlap to a significant degree. As WP:SCOWNB is ideally a place for announcements I am in process of merging the lists at WP:SCO and intend to remove the one at WP:SCOWNB when this is complete. However there are a fair number of Users not on both lists. If you do not wish to have you current WP:SCOWNB entry re-appear at WP:SCO please either let me know or edit the latter as appropriate. Thanks for your patience, and continuing support of matters relating to WikiProject Scotland. Ben MacDui (Talk) 18:35, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Maccoinnich, as a WikiProject Scotland participant, please check out this this thread and consider adding the bot results page to your watchlist so we can manually update the New Articles page. There are some false results for the first batch, but I'm sure we can collectively tune the rules to improve the output.
If we get enough people watching the results page, we'll be cooking with gas as they say :) This looks like a great helper in finding new Scotland related material. Cheers. --Cactus.man ✍ 01:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Prospect (architecture magazine) cover Winter 2007.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Prospect (architecture magazine) cover Winter 2007.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:13, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

David Hamilton
[edit]Are you able to help me with information about David Hamilton & any work he may have done for the Earl of Eglinton. Specifically was he the designer of the Eglinton Tournament Bridge at Eglinton Castle in North Ayrshire? The date would have been around 1799. Rosser (talk)
Fair use rationale for File:Douglasgordon.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Douglasgordon.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:43, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
The article The List (magazine) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non notable magazine
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Lionel (talk) 00:05, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
