Final warning - copyright violations
Hi MaynardClark. After coming upon the blatant copyright violation and plagiarism in Microsoft Stream, I've taken a look at some of your other edits for copyright issues, and unfortunately I've found many, after looking at 20 of your approximately 70 article creations and having not looked at any of your edits to articles.
- Microsoft Stream was a copyright violation from here
- I've deleted Lisa Boothe as taken from this webpage
- Though your infringement was foundational in Adele Morris, I managed to save it with a mix of removals and revision deletions. Note that this also appears to have copied some content from another Wikipedia article, Warwick McKibbin, without mandatory copyright attribution to the page authors; see WP:COPYWITHIN. I fixed that with this attribution edit summary.
- Similar with Saba Hamedy, with content taken from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/author/saba-hamedy.
- Likewise with B. Timothy Walsh, with content copied and pasted from here.
- A little different from these others but I have also removed the very long block quotes from Deal space. Fair use can only support short quotes. See also Wikipedia:Non-free content#Text.
- I see that a prior version of David Freeman (journalist) was deleted by RickinBaltimore as a copyright violation of his LinkedIn page.
- I also see that Diannaa has warned you twice, for copyright violations added to Tamara Awerbuch-Friedlander, Shekhar Saxena and Joseph Brain (academic).
I do not know if I caught all of these types of edits in even the small part I checked, of your extensive editing history of close to 20,000 edits. The way many of these were added is utterly exhausting to ferret out. You start articles with a sentence that seems fine, and then make thirty edits one of which adds three word-for-word copy pasted sentences. This is is one reason it's such a problem when an editor like you whose been here for a long time is found to be doing this. It would go a long way if, after reading this and understanding the issue, you were to find any other edits where you copied and listing them so that the illegal content can be revision deleted.
Understand: You cannot copy and paste previously written material (other than, short quotations, clearly marked as such by the use of quote marks (or a block quoting method) and cited to the source of the copying using an inline citation, which is allowed under fair use). Reliable sources are cited to show where the information exists that verifies your additions, but you don't copy what they say. As we often tell people: "You may use external websites or other writings as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words." You should also understand that copyright infringement is not avoided by surface modification of existing content, e.g., changing a word here and a word there, while substantially retaining the wording, structure and creative expression in the original material. See Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing.
We often grant more leeway for other types of good faith but improper edits, before resorting to blocks, but copyright violations are a problem of a more serious nature. Accordingly, I am posting here under the section header "Final warning", so you clearly understand and are not taken by surprise. Any further similar edits will subject you to an immediate and indefinite block from further editing. Regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:38, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Page protection
I am not sure which problems you are specifically referring to on those articles? But feel free to request page protection, as I do not have the authority to so grant. Thanks! ‡ Єl Cid, Єl Caɱ̩peador ᐁT₳LKᐃ 15:06, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Harvard speeches links
One editor has edited solely to place external links in the body of articles; they're all links to the same source and often placed in inappropriate sections and given inappropriate weight. This is despite being asked by multiple editors to stop or change. If this is important enough to include in articles - and I am very dubious - then it needs to be included in a different way. As it is, this editor has definitely crossed the line into a link spammer. ElKevbo (talk) 23:32, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
- What do you suggest? I see that, on your webpage you cited Stanley N. Katz in “In Information Technology, Don’t Mistake a Tool for a Goal” Thought provoking! MaynardClark (talk) 23:35, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
- I suggest that any editor who believes the material should be included in an article take it up in that article's Talk page to determine if there is a consensus one way or another; we're at the "D" part of WP:BRD.
- (And Katz isn't the only person who has said that; many other people have said the same thing or something very similar. He just said it with the kind of phrasing that made it into a usable domain name. :) ) ElKevbo (talk) 23:57, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
- I'm willing to do that, but I read constantly that Wikipedia editors are to assume good faith. MaynardClark (talk) 23:59, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
Your uploads at Commons
Hi Maynard,
first of all I would like to thank you for your very valuable photos of scientists, which you upload at Commons. You tag your files with many tags, but this is also the problem.
This is a good tagging, but not a categorization!
c:Category:Harvard Medical School
c:Category:Harvard School of Public Health
c:Category:Longwood Medical Area
c:Category:Genetics
c:Category:Gene therapy
c:Category:Medical ethics
c:Category:DNA
c:Category:Zinc finger design
c:Category:CRISPR
c:Category:CRISPR-associated protein
This would be appropriate:
c:Category:Longwood Medical Area
c:Category:George M. Church
So, I'm not the police and won't recategorize your files, but it would be great, if you could take to heart: At Commons, we don't tag!
Have a nice day.--Casigno145 (talk) 18:52, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Suggestions on tags???? Don't articles about them fit into those Categories? MaynardClark (talk) 18:59, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Typo
It was a typo while trying to fix the mess you had made of that article. Please don't try to take me on with snarky comments - you won't "win". - Sitush (talk) 17:01, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, it was there mistakenly less than a minute, and I apologized. I think that you removed my apology. Let's not fight here or anywhere. MaynardClark (talk) 17:07, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi MaynardClark. A bunch of the content on your userpage and on the many many subpages you have created under your userpage and under your Talk page violates the WP:Userpage policy in that they contain autobiographical content or essays about the world and stuff, which violates WP:NOTWEBHOST. Would you please clear these violations? Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 01:21, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- Have you acted on the above request from Jytdog? There still seems to be a lot of cruft there. - Sitush (talk) 09:12, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- To editor MaynardClark: I'll agree with Jytdog that you've laid it on thick. I support long-term Wikipedians here to contribute having some leeway. I removed the CSD tag because the criteria allows for some leeway. Regardless, it would help if you don't take steps to alienate the community. We have, in the past, deleted user pages that resemble fake articles full of puffery. There's plenty you can tell us about you as an editor without turning your userspace into a GeoCities-like website. Chris Troutman (talk) 22:54, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:57, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
Re: Carmen Yulín Cruz
Hi. Honestly, my edit was only to add the Cite news template to the text in question, since it had those bare URLs with "[ ]" brackets in there (I didn't even notice the 'unity of command' line until your brought it up to my attention); I wasn't responsible for putting the text there. I think that it would be better to bring forward the question about a 'synthesis' to the user who replaced it and/or the user who was the original author of the 'unity of command' text. --EdgarCabreraFariña (talk) 10:48, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Deal space
Hello, MaynardClark,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Deal space should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deal space .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
Thanks,

Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News
Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News
Hello copy editors! Welcome to the December 2017 GOCE newsletter, which contains nine months(!) of updates. The Guild has been busy and successful; your diligent efforts in 2017 has brought the backlog of articles requiring copy edit to below 1,000 articles for the first time. Thanks to all editors who have contributed their time and energy to help make this happen. Our copy-editing drives (month-long backlog-reduction drives held in odd-numbered months) and blitzes (week-long themed editing in even-numbered months) have been very successful this year. March drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2016 from our backlog and all February 2017 Requests (a total of 304 articles). By the end of the month, all but 22 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 28 who signed up, 22 editors recorded 257 copy edits (439,952 words). (These numbers do not always make sense when you compare them to the overall reduction in the backlog, because not all editors record every copy edit on the drive page.) April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 April; the theme was Requests. Of the 15 who signed up, 9 editors completed 43 articles (81,822 words). May drive: The goals were to remove July, August, and September 2016 from the backlog and to complete all March 2017 Requests (a total of 300 articles). By the end of the month, we had reduced our overall backlog to an all-time low of 1,388 articles. Of the 28 who signed up, 17 editors completed 187 articles (321,810 words). June blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 18 through 24 June; the theme was Requests. Of the 16 who signed up, 9 editors completed 28 copy edits (117,089 words). 2017 Coordinator elections: In June, coordinators for the second half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 moved back into the lead coordinator position, with Miniapolis stepping down to remain as coordinator; Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators, and Keira1996 rejoined after an extended absence. Thanks to all who participated! July drive: We set out to remove August, September, October, and November 2016 from the backlog and to complete all May and June 2017 Requests (a total of 242 articles). The drive was an enormous success, and the target was nearly achieved within three weeks, so that December 2016 was added to the "old articles" list used as a goal for the drive. By the end of the month, only three articles from 2016 remained, and for the second drive in a row, the backlog was reduced to a new all-time low, this time to 1,363 articles. Of the 33 who signed up, 21 editors completed 337 articles (556,482 words). August blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 20 through 26 August; the theme was biographical articles tagged for copy editing for more than six months (47 articles). Of the 13 who signed up, 11 editors completed 38 copy edits (42,589 words). September drive: The goals were to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all August 2017 Requests (a total of 338 articles). Of the 19 who signed up, 14 editors completed 121 copy edits (267,227 words). October blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 22 through 28 October; the theme was Requests. Of the 14 who signed up, 8 editors completed 20 articles (55,642 words). November drive: We set out again to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all October 2017 Requests (a total of 207 articles). By the end of the month, these goals were reached and the backlog shrank to its lowest total ever, 997 articles, the first time it had fallen under one thousand (click on the graph above to see this amazing feat in graphical form). It was also the first time that the oldest copy-edit tag was less than eight months old. Of the 25 who signed up, 16 editors completed 159 articles (285,929 words). 2018 Coordinator elections: Voting is open for the election of coordinators for the first half of 2018. Please visit the election page to vote between now and December 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Thanks for participating! Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before (or after) every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Corinne, Tdslk, and Keira1996. "Olympic Scandal"
I note that you added a template to Michigan State University and Michigan State Spartans regarding "updates" to the portions of the articles relating to an Olympic Scandal, which I gather relates to allegations of the school's coverup of sex abuse by the gymnastics coach; I've removed the templates, because they were added without explanation, because neither of the articles currently say anything about the events to be updated, and the template linked to nothing to give the template any context. I don't have any particular view about whether this incident merits mention in the articles, but if it does, I think the better solution would be to add the material rather than placing a somewhat confusing and inflammatory template at the top of the page. Would you like to raise it on the article Talk pages? JohnInDC (talk) 00:15, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- I don't see it as inflammatory because it is widely discussed in every major US news network - on both radio and TV. But as you wish. I think it will appear on the article eventually, and probably soon. But I think it's merely looking at the news and wondering why nothing has been developed about the current controversy, during which student group's have sought the removal of the MSU President. Schools respond with reputation management and do things that solve the issues that emerge from 'student furor' in any contemporary 'fracas'!
- I do agree that it's hardly proper to offset an entire state university's historical contribution to the US and the Midwest with one current scandal, however horrid it is. But I have seen far smaller 'controversies' blown out of proportion in Wikipedia (editors don't like doctors who appear on PBS fundraisers or journalists who work primarily for FOX, etc.)
- But hey! MaynardClark (talk) 01:53, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Well, as I said I don't have much of a view one way or the other about whether this merits inclusion in the articles (less sure about the leads). But I do feel pretty strongly that Wikipedia articles should answer questions, not raise them; and that putting a template at the very top of an article to "update" material in the article that isn't in fact in it at all, produces a "WTF?" in the reader rather than the more desirable, "Aha!" If you think it's important enough to add, why not write something up? JohnInDC (talk) 02:36, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Not right now, and maybe someone else will feel strongly about it. I'm not going to raise strong language about it, even as a hypothetical. MaynardClark (talk) 02:42, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 21
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of vegetarian festivals, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Manchester Community College (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The article Longi Silicon Materials has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No independent and/or significant coverage in RS.Rubbish CSD decline.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ Winged BladesGodric 05:37, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
GOCE February 2018 news
Guild of Copy Editors February 2018 News
Welcome to the February 2018 GOCE newsletter in which you will find Guild updates since the December edition. We got to a great start for the year, holding the backlog at nine months. 100 requests were submitted in the first 6 weeks of the year and were swiftly handled with an average completion time of 9 days. Coordinator elections: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2018 were elected. Jonesey95 remained as lead coordinator and Corrine, Miniapolis and Tdslk as assistant coordinators. Keira1996 stepped down as assistant coordinator and was replaced by Reidgreg. Thanks to all who participated! End of year reports were prepared for 2016 and 2017, providing a detailed look at the Guild's long-term progress. January drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2017 from our backlog and all December 2017 Requests (a total of 275 articles). As with previous years, the January drive was an outstanding success and by the end of the month all but 57 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 38 who signed up, 21 editors recorded 259 copy edits (490,256 words). February blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 February, focusing on Requests and the last articles tagged in May 2017. At the end of the week there were only 14 pending requests, with none older than 20 days. Of the 11 who signed up, 10 editors completed 35 copy edits (98,538 words). Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:33, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- I've just added the link to the PV Magazine article in the deletion discussion which was previously missing. You might want to see if there is anything usable there as a source for the article. SpinningSpark 10:01, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
alternate account
Hramage was just created, but has no user page, user talk page, and has never edited. And yet, you've created a sandbox at User:Hramage/sandbox/Michael "Mick" McIntyre. Is this a WP:VALIDALT account? Do you have any un-announced conflicts of interest? Please explain. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:30, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- HRamage created the page; I added materials to his draft. We agreed in advance that he would work on the page and be its primary editor, but he hasn't done much (anything) on it. I MET the producer of the film, enjoyed the film, and thought that he deserved a page. Whether or not such a page survives a later submission will depend on what Wikim, edians think of it, after development and submission. I have no financial investment in Second Nature Films, nor have I met any of its other principals, other than by e-mail. I care about animal conservation; animal conservation (even human) and global health typically involve all kinds of conflicts of interest related to resource acquisition and use. MaynardClark (talk) 19:33, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
"HRamage created the page"
That's not so. You created the page as Hramage has never edited. You admit meeting the producer of a film and are now writing an article about said producer. Can you see why this seems dishonest? Chris Troutman (talk) 19:38, 28 February 2018 (UTC)- No. I met him at a screening near MIT. What is dishonest about that? Would you like this to me in the draft space I had created under my own account? I am happy to do that, but this other man I had never met told contacted me. You make some really unreasonable and libelous charges withouth any transparency for whoever you are. "HRamage created the page" is true, but he had merely created the FORM for the page, which I take in good faith to be 'creating the page'.
- Your question is (or seems to be) whether this is an 'alternate account' - it is not - it belongs to a young man - Holden Synar Ramage - in his 20s, as far as I can tell. He has a Facebook page. Does that answer your explicit inquiry? MaynardClark (talk) 19:51, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yes. Chris Troutman (talk) 05:20, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. My 'contribution' to that article was (I think now, and thought then) pretty much completed. I had thought that I would merely give him an idea how to begin an article; then I got carried away busying myself with what I would normally do in gathering information. But that's how I tend to work - in a flurry of intensive activity. I do hope that he works on the draft soon and does what is expected to develop a basic userpage for himself. But he's in a better position to make that happen than I am, and he presumably has time and inclination to do so. The article won't go anywhere until and unless he works on the article and submits it. MaynardClark (talk) 15:52, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

June 2018 GOCE newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors June 2018 News
Welcome to the June 2018 GOCE newsletter, in which you will find Guild updates since the February edition. Progress continues to be made on the copyediting backlog, which has been reduced to 7 months and reached a new all-time low. Requests continue to be handled efficiently this year, with 272 completed by the end of May (an average completion time of 10.5 days). Fewer than 10% of these waited longer than 20 days, and the longest wait time was 29 days. Wikipedia in general, and the Guild in particular, experienced a deep loss with the death on 20 March of Corinne. Corinne (a GOCE coordinator since 1 July 2016) was a tireless aide on the requests page, and her peerless copyediting is a part of innumerable GAs and FAs. Her good cheer, courtesy and tact are very much missed. March drive: The goal was to remove June, July and August 2017 from our backlog and all February 2018 Requests (a total of 219 articles). This drive was an outstanding success, and by the end of the month all but eight of these articles were cleared. Of the 33 editors who signed up, 19 recorded 277 copy edits (425,758 words). April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 15 through 21 April, focusing on Requests and the last eight articles tagged in August 2017. At the end of the week there were only 17 pending requests, with none older than 17 days. Of the nine editors who signed up, eight editors completed 22 copy edits (62,412 words). May drive: We set out to remove September, October and November 2017 from our backlog and all April 2018 Requests (a total of 298 articles). There was great success this month with the backlog more than halved from 1,449 articles at the beginning of the month to a record low of 716 articles. - "our nation's", but I see no relevance. this is not my highest priority, but I know I ought to get back to things-- and sometimes I do, eventually, and erratically, DGG ( talk ) 03:13, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
- If we each say "my nation's" then together we might say "our nation's"... Cheers! May it be a good holiday. LOL?
- The goal here in what the hospital and clinical ethicists are trying to do IS indeed to 'define, rationalize, and establish' in concert witrh, or in consultation with medical practitioners who migth be stuck because of the inherent subjectivity of 'trying to do right by their patients' when a congeries of other issues are also realities (this is true), and if one wants to build some guidelines FROM the context of clinical practice, ... the topic needs to be watched in order to discuss it. Speedy deletion nomination of Alta Devices
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Alta Devices, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DGG ( talk ) 18:30, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
- Then the TEAM of persons (not merely deletionists in position to act out their wills) need to discern HOW to fundamentally rewrite the article in order to make it more 'encyclopedic'! That is not the unique duty of the article's original author, nor of any one or two Wikipedia editors. Better stewardship here, please! MaynardClark (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not a deletionist, except with what seem to be promotional articles. I almost never insist on a speedy if there's a reasonable challenge, so I've removed the tag; what I have done instead is remove the material I consider the most promotional. Alternatively, I might have chosen to move it to draft space ,and then there will be time to improve it and someone else will judge. When I list for deletion, I usually mean that the combination of the somewhat borderline notability of the subject and the promotional nature of the writing is what makes the case for deletion. If the subject is really very notable, I usually advise to rewrite or rewrite myself. If I tag your article and you want me to look again, pls also notify me on my talk page. I do not always stay around--sometimes I do a round of NPP just before going to bed, but I'll respond if I'm around.
- More generally, we seem to have different ideas about what's appropriate in a WP article. As I see it, your writing is usually more informal and essay -like than the formal plain writing in an encyclopedia. You tend to include what I consider human interest material, and make too many claims of importance. Rather, the facts should speak for themselves. You tend to add material from PR sources, and to use quotes expressing the opinions of the subject. The nearest term I can find for this is promotional writing. Roughly, promotional writing is what the subject would like readers to know about himself, in contrast to encyclopedic writing, which is what a general reader might want to know. If that's not your intent, you might want to write to avoid giving the impression.
- Nobody is expected to make a perfect article,, but it is fundamentally your duty to write so the other editors don't have to do it. There is no "team" here; there are editors working independently but cooperatively. I think that what I advise is what the consensus calls for. I try to give safe advice, not advice for how much one might hope to get away with. Nobody here is in a position to act out their wills--I never delete an article by myself--either I nominate and someone else agrees, or I act upon someone's prior recommendation. Sometimes, the consensus does not agree with me--but sometimes I deliberately nominate for AfD to see just what the consensus is, and I may just be interested in finding out, and sometimes I nominate to try to influence the consensus--People either agree with me , or they do not agree;. I accept when the consensus is different than what I would like. We can discuss further specific articles. DGG ( talk ) 05:11, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to adjust the article as you see fit. I'm quite busy at this time and am really finding my time stressed with demands to attend to Wikipedia articles that I don't have time to adjust or work on further. I think that your edits are really good. MaynardClark (talk) 05:15, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. i'm going to do some work on some of the others. When I first came here, I thought what I'd be doing is writing comprehensive articles in my specialties, but I found out that instead I found it more satisfying to work on a wide variety of topics, improving the work that had been started by others. Perhaps it's lack of attention span. It's compensated for by persistence--I can keep working on many things at a time, working on each one over long intervals. DGG ( talk ) 05:48, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- I like that. MaynardClark (talk) 17:19, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2018. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2019, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. We removed copyedit tags from all of the articles tagged in our original target months of June, July and August 2018, and by 24 January we ran out of articles. After adding September, we finished the month with 8 target articles remaining and 842 left in the backlog. GOCE copyeditors also completed 48 requests for copyedit in January. Of the 31 people who signed up for this drive, 24 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Blitz: Thanks to everyone who participated in the February Blitz. Of the 15 people who signed up, 13 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed 32 copyedits, including 15 requests. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: As of 23:39, 18 March 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have completed 108 requests since 1 January and the backlog stands at 851 articles. March Drive: The month-long March drive is now underway; the target months are October and November 2018. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Sign up here! Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Miniapolis, Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95, Reidgreg and Tdslk. September 2019 GOCE Newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors September 2019 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the September newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2019. June election: Reidgreg was chosen as lead coordinator, and is being assisted by Baffle gab1978, Miniapolis, Tdslk, and first-time coordinator Twofingered Typist. Jonesey95 took a respite after serving for six years. Thanks to everyone who participated! June Blitz: From 16 to 22 June, we copy edited articles on the themes of nature and the environment along with requests. 12 participating editors completed 35 copy edits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: The year's fourth backlog-elimination drive was a great success, clearing all articles tagged in January and February, and bringing the copy-editing backlog to a low of five months and a record low of 585 articles while also completing 48 requests. Of the 30 people who signed up, 29 copyedited at least one article, a participation level last matched in May 2015. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 18 to 24 August, we copy edited articles tagged in March 2019 and requests. 12 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: As of 03:00, 23 September 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors had processed 413 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stood at 599 articles, close to our record month-end low of 585. Requests page: We are experimenting with automated archiving of copy edit requests; a discussion on REQ Talk (permalinked) initiated by Bobbychan193 has resulted in Zhuyifei1999 writing a bot script for the Guild. Testing is now underway and is expected to be completed by 3 October; for this reason, no manual archiving of requests should be done until the testing period is over. We will then assess the bot's performance and discuss whether to make this arrangement permanent. September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today! Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators, Baffle gab1978, Miniapolis, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Request for feedback on cell ag company draft
Hello @MaynardClark: I found you on the talk page for Cultured Meat. I'm working on a draft article about a company considered tangential to the cultured meat "space." I noticed that you're an experienced Wikipedian, and wondered if you'd be willing and able to provide feedback on my draft, here: Draft:Perfect Day (company).
I have disclosed a COI regarding the draft in keeping with Wikipedia's policy. While I've tried to use language that is as neutral as possible, the first submission was rejected for a WP:NOTADVERT issue. I've discussed it with the reviewer at their talk page and gotten feedback from one other person. The draft has since been edited slightly, but I'd still like to get others' perspectives on it before resubmitting. It's possible I'm too close to the subject, and feel I would do better to rely on unbiased opinions rather than guessing at what should be changed. Are you able to help? After browsing your user page (and seeing how long you've been around here), I figured you'd be able to offer useful insight. Thanks in advance. BlackMaus (talk) 00:24, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Upside down year
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Upside down year requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. tsilb (talk) 06:01, 28 October 2019 (UTC)

GOCE December 2019 Newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors December 2019 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the December 2019 GOCE newsletter, an update of Guild happenings since the September edition. Our Annual Report should be ready in late January. Election time: Nominations for the election of a new tranche of Guild coordinators to serve for the first half of 2020 will be open from 1 to 15 December. Voting will then take place and the election will close on 31 December at 23:59 UTC. Positions for Guild coordinators, who perform the important behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our project running smoothly, are open to all Wikipedians in good standing. We welcome self-nominations so please consider nominating yourself if you've ever thought about helping out; it's your Guild and it doesn't run itself! September Drive: Of the thirty-two editors who signed up, twenty-three editors copy edited at least one article; they completed 39 requests and removed 138 articles from the backlog, bringing the backlog to a low of 519 articles. October Blitz: This event ran from 13 to 19 October, with themes of science, technology and transport articles tagged for copy edit, and Requests. Sixteen editors helped remove 29 articles from the backlog and completed 23 requests. November Drive: Of the twenty-eight editors who signed up for this event, twenty editors completed at least one copy edit; they completed 29 requests and removed 133 articles from the backlog. Our December Blitz will run from 15 to 21 December. Sign up now! Progress report: From September to November 2019, GOCE copy editors processed 154 requests. Over the same period, the backlog of articles tagged for copy editing was reduced by 41% to an all-time low of 479 articles. Request archiving: The archiving of completed requests has now been automated. Thanks to Zhuyifei1999 and Bobbychan193, YiFeiBot is now archiving the Requests page. Archiving occurs around 24 hours after a user's signature and one of the templates {{Done}}, {{Withdrawn}} or {{Declined}} are placed below the request. The bot uses the Guild's standard "purpose codes" to determine the way it should archive each request so it's important to use the correct codes and templates. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators; Reidgreg, Baffle gab1978, Miniapolis, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Jack F. Whelan moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Jack F. Whelan, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Your draft article, Draft:Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics
Hello, MaynardClark. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Edit on Adam Schiff page
Hello, I just noticed that someone removed part of my edit about Adam Schiff, specifically where I listed that a certain congresswoman's reference to Benjamins meant Jews. The editor deemed that there was no reason to speculate about the meaning of the term Benjamins; can this be reviewed? Thanks! Also, I am not active on Wikipedia, so a reply may not come soon. Tolkien5 (talk) 04:07, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Did I remove that, or did someone else? Usually I don't remove others' content unless it's offensive, erroneous, or grammatically incorrect. I appreciate that 'Benjamins' USUALLY means money (not Jews), and that some took issue with the statement, which could have been made differently anyway. GOCE March newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below. Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate. January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here. March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now! Progress report: As of 18 March, GOCE copyeditors have completed 161 requests in 2020 and there was a net reduction of 385 articles from the copy-editing backlog – a 60% decrease from the beginning of the year. Well done and thank you everyone! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Guild of Copy Editors June 2020 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2020. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below. All times and dates stated are in UTC. Current events
Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests. Drive and blitz reports
March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020. Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Veganism and vegetarianism WikiProject
I did create the Veganism and Vegetarianism WikiProject. It is still in early stages of development and nowhere near complete, I need an experienced editor to help create the assessment for articles and categories and it needs loads more work. But here is the link to the WikiProject Wikipedia:WikiProject Veganism and Vegetarianism. Hopefully it will develop over time and users will take interest. Psychologist Guy (talk) 10:03, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
- This may require some time. Thank you for developing this. I can begin to envision how this might possibly help transform many articles in 'the Wikipedia project'. MaynardClark (talk) 12:56, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Placement of Wikiproject entries in Talk page headers
I see you've been busy adding {{WikiProject Veganism and Vegetarianism|class=C|importance=mid}}
to numerous article Talk pages. However, there is a standard placement of wikiprojects inside header banners that you have missed, at least in the case of Talk:Keith Mann. See this edit I made to correct the placement. Please see Template:WikiProject banner shell for more information. I would appreciate it if you would double-check all your new additions and correct those that were misplaced. Thank you. Normal Op (talk) 22:56, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
Sockpuppet investigation
An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MaynardClark, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Removing cow-dog picture (discussion in Speciesism article)
Your opinion is sought here: Talk:Speciesism § Removing cow-dog picture. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:55, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- I think we should keep the picture BECAUSE the charge of speciesism may refer to how (some/many) humans prefer some animals to others (and thus disadvantage those whom they do not prefer). For instance, 'Why do we love animals called pets and feed those pets the bodies of other animals whom we call 'pet food'?? Aren't many animals substantially equal or at least parallel in terms of their intentionality and will to continue living and to engage in social relationships 'with their own kind'? Dogs and cows; dogs and sheet; cats and fish; etc. Whentechnologies (such as plant-based meats) provide plant-based fully-nourishing foods for all companion and captive animals, won't photo like the cow-dog image become less politically volatile and more an expression of what 'the common sense' will have become? Suggesting moral parity between those who are companion animals (dogs, et al.) and those who are used for food is morally and existentially problematic for those who don't see an out, an escape, a resolution to the moral dilemmas that it illustrates. David L. Katz
Hi MaynardClark,
Do you know anything about David L. Katz and his involvement with plant-based diets? He recently last year published a peer reviewed paper on plant based diets, but a user objects to including his article on the Vegan/Vegetarian WikiProject because reliable secondary sources do not describe him as an advocate of such diets. See talk-page discussion. Katz is on the advisory board for Naked Food a plant based magazine. Psychologist Guy (talk) 19:11, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Dr. Katz spoke at the Ivy League Vegan Conference at Harvard a few years ago. I heard him along with Dr. Walter Willett. While Dr. Katz DOES say that 'plant-based meat is not a panacea' (I have been saying that for years to advocates who are funding it; IMO it would be irresponsible even to to claim that merely following a DIET that could be called 'vegan', even it were a GOOD vegan diet, would cure all health and ecological and social ills), he does on his very own website seem to be advocating or speaking on behalf of it. Simple searching the Internet for 'David Katz' and 'vegan' shows a number of articles (other than the ForksOverKnives.com site that cites him).
- "Those content to avoid meat and eat plants all along have little need for the new wave of meat alternatives. But they have obvious appeal for people who like consuming meat but would prefer — always or sometimes — to avoid its liabilities: ethics and the treatment of our fellow creatures; environmental impact; and direct human health effects." Dr. David L. Katz, Sep 16, 2019. 'Plant-Based Meat Is Not a Panacea: But in two out of three categories, it’s better than beef' - referring to plant-based meats
- Plant-Based Diets for Reversing Disease and Saving the Planet: Past, Present, and Future. Katz DL. Advances in Nutrition, Volume 10, Issue Supplement_4, November 2019, Pages S304–S307://doi.org/10.1093/advances/nmy124. Published: 15 November 2019 - "The future of food, for the sake of people and planet alike, is plant centric."
- The Case(s) for Veganism, Katz DL. David L. Katz website, Preventive Medicine Column. March 24, 2017.
- Vegetarian and Plant based eating with Dr. David Katz- Delgado Protocol. Katz DL. David L. Katz website, in Video. February 16, 2018.
- A YouTube video of Dr. Katz is preceded by the statement: "The position of the Medical Executive Committee of SUNY Downstate Medical Center, as recommended by the Committee and Plant-based Health and Nutrition, is as follows: Plant-based nutrition – emphasizing consumption of vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and fruits – can prevent, treat, or reverse certain chronic diseases in adults based on current best research evidence." But someone responded pejoratively to the video: "OK what's he getting at? Someone give me the Readers Digest version please. Is he vegan, vegetarian or carnivore?"
He says that attending a lecture like this is like preaching to the church that shows up in order to hear that message. I hope that begins to help, but is the climate argument for veganism a slam dunk? Not even EarthSave claimed that; EarthSave advocated 'the 10% solution' (one meatless day/week). Debates over effective altruism and argumentation is likely to suspend the wish for discernment and best guidance in everyone's (not everyman's) decision-making. Is consequentialism going to push us toward veganism (Singer didn't go there), or deontology (Tom Regan)? Katz argues for the guidance from the continuing research of epidemiology, and that plant-based or plant-centric directions will be the better guidance for all human life. A broad view, not a narrow view, is what he seeks in this 1:14:41 lecture. What ho! Go vegan! That is 'for the population the best long-term advice (then the picture begins to form as the research is collected and sorted. MaynardClark (talk) 04:30, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
- As I understand it Katz is an advocate of plant-based diets, not vegan. Usually this means a diet predominately based around plant foods with the occasional animal product thrown in, lets say 90% or more plants and 10% or less animal protein. Katz says veganism is too extreme, I have not seem him support it. T. Colin Campbell says he eats a "99% vegan" diet. Plant based is not quite vegan, its actually a form of semi-vegetarianism. I have known a few plant based people some of them may eat one egg a month. Psychologist Guy (talk) 18:44, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Many of those plant-based "meats" are actually ultra-processed junk food, they have a high-sodium/saturated fat content. Have a look here [2] Psychologist Guy (talk) 18:47, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- MaynardClark I dropped you a bunch of emails a few weeks ago. Not sure if you got them. Feel free to drop me an email, my emails might not be getting through to you. Psychologist Guy (talk) 02:11, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Hello
"Remove extra carriage returns"; okay, Joe Biden (saw your edit while playing the Victrola). Since I'm here...nice work all around! Randy Kryn (talk) 13:15, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- We have been Wikipedians for comparable periods of time, but you have made far more edits and have more barnstars, I guess. I could use a few more. Is the plant-based diet 'countercultural' any more? I know that you like that template. MaynardClark (talk) 13:42, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- 2007, so we came in at the tail-end of the Wikipedia Renaissance (a term I just made up, alluding to the large amount of quality articles added between 2005-2007). Just checked the categories for counterculture pages, and plant diets (yummmm, plants) are not, or no longer should be, labeled as counterculture. Seems to have become culturally approved as the diet became more economically beneficial for corporations. Looking at your info I kicked myself for not getting in touch with you before or during the Wikipedia North American Conference last year. Love your art museum, one of the world class art museums in the States, and ran around to see Harvard (the Fogg wasn't open, but those glass plants are exceptional) but missed the Kennedy Library. Peacefield and the other Adams' sites are other national treasures were worth the trip by themselves (biggest surprise, how "on the street" the two earlier Adams' homes are now. I expected a lot of land around them, so two treasures just sitting there surrounded by fast food joints and busy neighborhood streets). Would like to return sometime if just to have another day at the Fine Arts. Well, enough down memory lane. I may have a few more edits but am no longer as active in the vegetarian movement as you are (I tend to hit home runs every once in awhile and then bench myself), so, sincerely, thank you very much for your contributions to that field of dreams. Nomination of RUN Ministries for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article RUN Ministries is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/RUN Ministries until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:29, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Please don't re-edit your older AfD discussion content
I noticed you substantially edited and changed your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Annie Harvilicz. This is not acceptable. In order to preserve the flow of conversation for others reading the AfD, you should add extra comments below, or strike out text you are deleting. But you should NOT insert new content in an old entry.
(I tried to find the policy pointing to this, because I know it has been written, but 10 minutes searching and I can't find the precise one I wanted. It might be in this document: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#Contributing to AfD discussions.)
Two things happen when you make changes in an AfD (or any discussion thread): (1) If you substantially change what you had written before, it can make editor's comments below yours seem non-sequitur or even stupid, and (2) editors will NOT re-read your comments to figure out what is different today than what you had written there yesterday.
A talk/discussion is NOT an article/page, and follows different rules. Please be mindful to make only small corrections (spelling, formatting, etc.) to old talks/discussions, and instead add new comments below. If you need to delete something from your prior comment, then use the strike-through method (Help:Strike), but ALWAYS add new content in a new comment added below (and appropriately indent). Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Maloney Properties
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Maloney Properties, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
DGG ( talk ) 01:44, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

I asked Bluerasberry to contact ClimateWorks Foundation, New Climate Institute, Human Impact Lab via e-mail for adding the core data we need to wikidata. I'm not sure whether he done so (and I won't do so directly as else it looks like I'm the only one working on this, whereas multiple people in Wikiproject Climate Change should work on it. As whether he done so and perhaps do so yourself if he hasn't done it (it's just an e-mail that needs to be sent, and you can point straight to the wikipedia wikiproject and wikidata wikiproject article pages, so it's clear we're working on this as a group. I'll also ask the others that have shown interest, discuss with them who contacts which organisation. --Genetics4good (talk) 14:53, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi there, I noticed that your profile is listed in Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Harvard University. By any chance do you have borrowing privileges at Harvard's libraries? I've been trying to get access to this obscure pamphlet by John Richard Clark Hall, and Widener Library appears to have the only copy in the US. I've also been unable to ILL it (even just a scan), and I won't be able to take a look in person for the foreseeable future. If you have borrowing privileges and would be willing to put in a "Scan & Deliver" request (ideally for a cover-to-cover scan, which should be easy enough since it is only 28 pages, and out of copyright), I would much appreciate it. Thanks, --Usernameunique (talk) 02:04, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- I will see what I can do, but Harvard is not doing Scan-and-Deliver requests during the pandemic lockdown. Why not look at the five other libraries that have copies of the book AND think about who might have copies (e.g. denominational libraries? older universities not in WorldCat?). Ethan Brown
Hi! I work for Beyond Meat and have created a draft for Ethan Brown, the company's founder. I see you are very active in this sphere, and was hoping you might be willing to take a look at my draft. If you think it's ready (or are able to clean it up to the point where it's ready), please do move it to mainspace. I am not doing this myself as I have a conflict of interest. Thanks for your help! Ethan Brown
Are you in any way associated with Beyond Meat? I only ask because of your odd choice for the DAB, "Alt-Meat Leader". In the future, such specific (and POV) DABs are not proper. Cheers ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 21:04, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
- No, and I don't like alt-meat, though I appreciate the rationales offered for alt-meat (reduce demand for animal agriculture, humane and ecological harms reductions, etc.). I strongly advocate for a whole foods/plant-based diet that does not use highly processed laboratory-involved foods. I do not have any income or even applause coming from Beyond Meat or its core competitors, Impossible Foods. What is notable is that so many meat producers are not committed to 'maintaining strength' in 'the alt-meat space' because they have mastered supply chains that target consumers who typically by meat and meat-based products. Besides, Ethan Brown has some competitors in the 'alt-meat leader' space - including Patrick O'Reilly Brown, who had come to my attention before I had learned of Ethan Brown (no known biological relation exists between them). My own curiosity about lab-grown meats is long-standing; Ethan Brown and Patrick Brown have indeed, as I estimate the emerging industry, led the industry to viability (as no one else had done before, including early researchers, some of whom have worked in research institutions, large and small (Medical University of South Carolina, Longwood Medical Area, large state universities, etc.). Their dedication to building the applied science of 'alt-meat' and developing industrial know-how to the point where they became commercially viable is a story that may not yet have been told in Wikipedia, though business journalists have been discussing it off and on during the past several years, and increasingly during the pandemic lockdowns, when consumer willingness to experiment with food choices may have increased, some seem to speculate. MaynardClark (talk) 21:13, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Hitler-fighter articles need help: Erhard Auer & Münchener Post
Erhard Auer was the Editor in Chief of the Münchener Post, it was shut down by Hitler in March 1933 immediately after he became the Reich Chancellor. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party called the newspaper and its editors "Giftküche" (The Poison Kitchen) and "Münchener Pest ("Munich Pestilence" or "Munich Plague"). Hitler considered the paper one of his most vexing public adversaries, and the paper was the target of libel actions by the Nazi Party. The paper was one of the few early warning voices regarding the dangers posed by the rise of the Nazi Party, although their warnings went largely unheeded at the time. Auer was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp and died 20 March 1945. The first book written on Erhard Auer and the Münchener Post was in 2013, in Brazil. .... 0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 18:22, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive). Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Few people you will be interested in
MaynardClark I came across your article [3] which briefly mentions Dinshah P. Ghadiali and Catherine Nimmo. I will be creating Wikipedia articles for both of them. I will start with Catherine Nimmo. I plan on working on this in the next few days. Psychologist Guy (talk) 00:54, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- GREAT! Best wishes! I will be watching (for) them. A PHONE CALL TO American Vegan Society in Malaga, New Jersey could likely provide you abundant documentation on both if you were to visit and photocopy documentation. MaynardClark (talk) 21:53, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I Can't call them up sadly because I live in Europe but I am also interested in Rubin Abramowitz, I think he was born around 1885 [4] but I cannot find a death date. He was a Conscientious Objector [5] who was apparently imprisoned [6]. A lot of these early vegans were living a long time into their 90s. I found another interesting individual Pietro Rotondi (1891-1985) author of the book Vegetarian Cookery (1942). I wish more members of the WikiProject group would create pages. There are about 200 articles I plan on creating, it takes a long time to write most of the articles, you have to do all of the research about their lives and collection good sources. Psychologist Guy (talk) 19:56, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- In the summer of (I think) 1978, at an NAVS Summer Vegetarian Conference (in Pennsylvania), I met Rubin Abramowitz, an enthusiastic vegan (who I think gave considerable money to vegan organizations, including AVS) and was a retired (I think I can recall) engineer, and a modestly tall, handsome (good looking), elderly (white-haired), clear-skinned illustration of the plant-based health message (which he enjoyed exemplifying in California). I also sadly recall learning that he had passed (because I asked each year whether or not he was still living). [I think that I recall that, even at that time, he and a few others were interested in the fledgling renewable energy technologies (wind and solar), and a B&W video from the UK vegans talked about living ecologically on the British Isles with solar and wind power...] MaynardClark (talk) 20:23, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I've moved this article to draft space because it's incomplete. You forgot to add categories, and parts of the text still appear to be unfinished. Please work on the draft before submitting for review. Deb (talk) 12:41, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
The article Jeff Novick has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of Salem Children's Village
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Salem Children's Village, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
Read Wikipedia:Copyright violations: copy-pasting vacuous puffery into articles is entirely against policy. And then read the organisation's own website, where you will note that you are wasting your time promoting it, since it is no longer functioning. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:16, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- Why the hatred? IMO it is too bad that it stopped functioning during the coronavirus pandemic. The long (IMO illustrious and innovative, but not-highly-visible) history (and its relationship with the founder - who reportedly designed a national flag, served a prison sentence, and launched the career of Thom Hartmann was to vegetarians something of note (then it faded out of view (I believe that Rumney, New Hampshire location (horseback riding for special needs children) was closed some time ago. It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia
Dear fellow editor,
I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.
All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.
Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.
I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).
The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.
