RfA thanks!
Thanks for voting! Hello Mets501/Archive 3, and thank you so much for voting in my recent RfA. I am pleased to inform you that it passed with a final tally of (119/1/3), into the WP:100, so I have now been cleared for adminship and will soon be soaring above the clouds. I was overjoyed, shocked, and humbled by the tally, and, most importantly, all the support. Thank you. If there is ever anything you need, you know where you can find me. Take care. |
I'll be waiting for yours ;) --Pilot|guy 22:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

On cleanup using AWB
Thank you for doing that work, but to be honest, I don't know if it is really necessary to use AWB to just replace HTML to unicode. As far as I can tell it does not make much of a difference, and all I see is my watchlist (on which I have more than 900 articles) gets filled, and it takes more time to check it as well as make sure there is no vandalism/other edits on the same day for those articles. Wonder what you think. You can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 23:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- I was doing it because it is much easier to edit a page when the characters are displayed in unicode, slightly easier for regular Wikipedians, and tons easier for new Wikipedians not used to HTML entities, because frankly, if you'd never seen HTML entities before, you may wonder why you're seeing
- Heh, if Wikipedians get intimidated by HTML code then we are in big trouble. :) User:Curpsbot-unicodify has not been around for a while, not in math articles at least. Actually a bot is better for such a job as you can schedule the bot to do a thorough job, but very rarely, say once a year, rather than whenever users feel like adding to their edit count (just kidding :) I think eventually some discussion needs to take place on when/what kind of edits are appropriate with AWB, for example, I won't mind a user doing spell-checking/disambiguation and along the way cleaning up more superficial things. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 00:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know what you mean. As far as edit count, if I want to go for adminship, I have enough edits (for most people) already, I'm just waiting for that six month "milestone" that everyone talks about as being a standard for adminship :-) —Mets501 (talk) 01:29, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, never hurts to wait a bit more and get to know people and Wikipedia before applying for adminship. :) I'll be glad to vote for you when the time comes. :) Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 06:28, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

IFF substitutions
Hi. I reverted your IFF change in Aegis combat system, since in that article IFF means Identification Friend or Foe. Perhaps AWB is not case sensitive. (?) Anyway, you may want to double-check any changes of IFF in aviation or defense articles, if you aren't already. :-) -- 18.252.7.206 16:33, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

mb template
Hi. The Template:mb was already in use on a number of pages, and your redirection mucked them up a bit. :) I've reverted the definition to its original, and explained further on its talk page. Just to let you know. --ScottAlanHill 21:41, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for making the change; I didn't think it would be so easy. --ScottAlanHill 23:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Iff
Hi. It is me again. It appears you are replacing all iffs with "if and only if". May I ask why? Is there an agreement on that? I believe both versions are acceptable, and I don't see a good reason to do a mass conversion. Wonder what you think. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 20:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I was. According to many style guides, "iff" in formal writing is unacceptable (see for example [1]). —Mets501 (talk) 20:15, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I suggest you raise the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics. And a piece of advice, which I also learned the hard way, big changes need to always be discussed in advance. They can save effort and sometimes avoids the need to do reverts. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 20:17, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- OK, in the future I'll make sure to discuss this and all further big changes in the appropriate WikiProject/Village Pump/etc. Thanks for writing to me :-). —Mets501 (talk) 20:21, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Could you fix your AWB edit summary? It currently says "if -> if and only if" instead of "iff -> if and only if", which looks slightly confusing. Thanks and happy editing, Kusma (討論) 03:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure if you've voted at WP:AID before, but I just noticed that when you did, you forgot to update the deadline for one of the projects. You may want to read WP:AID#How to vote to educate yourself on how the deadlines, etc. work for WP:AID. —Mets501 (talk) 16:47, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

History of Mathematics References
Hi, don't take it personally, but I recently undid your consolidation of the Notes, References, and Bibliography sections into a single section. They serve different functions and are intended to be kept separate. See Wikipedia:Guide to layout#Notes. --SteveMcCluskey 20:43, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your prompt reply and your general welcome. I'm a little apprehensive about making a contribution to the world wide web, but I'm sure that will pass. In the meantime I need to thank someone for the wonder that is Wikipedia, and since you're a significant contributor, please allow me to channel my gratitude to you. Peter.

Blocked anon
Hi Mets501. Sorry it took so long for someone to block that user. I'm trying to be really conservative with my new admin tools until I'm a little more confident with them. I was trying to figure out if it was some sort of a content dispute (was there some question regarding the NJ vacancy) since it wasn't simple vandalism. Do you have any idea what his motivation was? I was getting ready to give him a 3RR warning when theProject stepped up to the plate. Cheers, OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:01, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
I appreciate your revision of the vandalism anonymous user207.138.40.15 committed on my talkpage. I am really uncertain as to what I did or may have done to offend this person, but obviously I did. Doing some research, I found that he added a request for a composer named Justin Bean, a name which sounds familiar to me. I believe, if memory serves, that he was a member of a band an article about whom I tagged for speedy deletion. Apparently, that pissed him off. Thanks, also, for putting the warning on his talkpage. Perhaps that will dissuade him from such action in the future. ---Charles 19:26, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
request for check user
How do I go about making a request for check user? I would like to make said request for the user who vandalized my user page, and find out if he is one and the same as Xdeadclancyx. Thanks for any assistance you can offer. ---Charles 04:34, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

My RFA
The user referred to above just vandalized and then reverted his vandalism of my user page. As you may recall, you reverted vandalism to my talk page some time back, and I expressed the opinion that the anonymous user who committed said vandalism was actually Xdeadclancyx. The current vandalism only reinforces that view. If you would not mind, can you give him a stern warning about such nonsense? I would appreciate it. ---Charles 17:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- After I left the message above, I saw that you were on wikibreak, so I took the matter to another administrator, and he left Xdeadclancyx a warning. The reason I feel strongly on this issue is that a month has passed since the article he wrote was deleted---the only reason he has for being unhappy with me---and yet he continues to target my page for vandalism. And, frankly, I believe the only reason he reverted the edit is because the tag was invalid and did not work. At any rate, I am not going to pursue the matter further unless there is further vandalism. But, trust me when I say I am keeping my eye on him. Thanks for taking the time to respond. ---Charles 03:06, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- No apologies necessary, I assure you. ---Charles 03:25, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Framing in User Page
Hey, I just saw your user page, and it looks great with the frame around it. My first thought was to steal the template to use it on my own...but I thought better. (lol) I was wondering, did you design it custom, or did you find it as a template somewhere? If you did pick it up from a wiki community, would you please direct me to it. If not, I would appreciate a summary of what is involved in formatting something like that. Thanks, --KPWM_Spotter 00:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi KPWM Spotter! Sorry I couldn't get back sooner, I was on a Wikibreak. Feel free to "steal" whatever design you want from my user page; the header, box, layout, whatever you want. It's a wiki! Feel free! I even "stole" some of that from other editors, and put some of it together myself. If you're curious about creating tables for your user page, check out Help:Table. The borders were made with table borders and

tags. See you around! —Mets501 (talk) 23:31, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA thanks
Hello Mets501/Archive 3, and thank you for your strong support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grandmasterka 07:04, 16 July 2006 (UTC) |

CheNuevara RfA
I noticed your comments on this RfA. Normally I would agree with you and certainly oppose. However, on looking more closely at the candidate and the quality of his knowledge and performance, I find factors that more than compensate for any quantitative reservation. You may disagree, but I think it would be worth checking out his answers to new optional questions, if you haven't seen them. Tyrenius 16:16, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
