Trivial.

Or maybe not. :) You have a namesake, a weathercaster on WCCO (AM) radio in Minneapolis. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots06:57, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

It would be a namesake, had my name actually been Mike Lynch ;) I live on the exactly opposite side of the globe as Minneapolis (well, almost), and my name is quite different :) Lynch7 07:00, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
AHA! A pseudonym! Now all we have to do is find out your real name, and then we'll know... what your real name is. Hmmm... I'll have to get back to you on that. Actually, there are quite a few Mike Lynches considered notable here, and not one of them is the WCCO weathercaster. :( ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots07:06, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Haha, my real name isn't all that difficult to figure out :P . Turns out Mike Lynch is quite a popular name ain't it. Lynch7 07:17, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, it might be discreetly stated somewhere here, though I didn't see it. I'm going to take a guess though: First, I'm assuming you're in India, or somewhere near. Of the many Indians I've worked with, it seems like a number of them have the first name Ramesh and a number of them have the last name Kumar. So I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your name is... Well, I'd better not say. We have rules about "outing". :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots07:23, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
That's not bad at all ;) Lynch7 07:40, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Trivial (Rajinikanth)

Can you please detail your revert on the edits which tells the actor special website created which is based on the popularity --Terminator (talk) 08:00, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

The page is not for reporting surges of popularity, or fansites. At the most (I still don't support it), there could be a mention about the site in the "Popularity" section (mention only, no external link). Lynch7 08:26, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes. I already removed the external link. The revert was done including the edits in popularity also. Let me add --Terminator (talk) 08:53, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Please start a discussion at Talk:Rajinikanth, and editors shall discuss there. Lynch7 08:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_India#Options. The discussion is closed, but what exactly is the consensus? To remove all scripts, and use audio, or keep the present scripts? X.One SOS 09:57, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
I really don't know, perhaps we should ask DeltaQuad, who closed the discussion. I think consensus is to use IPA, but I don't think DeltaQuad noticed the part about removal of the scripts. Lynch7 11:39, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

It would seem that I am in error regarding Theasg sap. I flagged an external tour booking link as spam. When a link reappeared, I assumed it was the same link, but it was a tourist guide site. So I should not have continued to warn and report him. Looking over his other contributions, I would say Theasg sap is quite constructive. I am glad you caught this. What do you recommend I do next? Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 09:36, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Well, just leave him a kind note on WP:5P, or any other advice you'd normally give to a beginner. Some English issues are to be expected, as is the case with many Indian editors; you can also ask him to use the "Cite" menu displayed on top of the edit box; makes things easier. Lynch7 09:51, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
I apologized and reverted the warnings. I probably should avoid giving advise at this point! Jim1138 (talk) 16:21, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

How in God's name is a date of birth contentious??? --Shylock's Boy (talk) 16:00, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Any material can be challenged for its factual accuracy. You must be well aware that there was a recent discussion in WP:BLPN regarding this, and Dougweller also commented on this at length. Lynch7 17:12, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Dear lord Shylocksboy, how many user talk pages are you going to plead ignorance on while deleting the explanations from your own talk page? Read the BLPN discussion and read the article talk page, read the links provided to you on your talk page (you'll have to pull it out of your history though), but please stop with the WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT arguments. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 17:43, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

Who says I didn't read it? I deleted it because I disagreed with it. I do this sort of stuff for a living so am well aware which sources are reliable and which are not. Under my real name I am quoted as a source in 500+ entries on wikipedia so I think I know what I am doing.--Shylock's Boy (talk) 00:10, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what your personal opinion is, if it does not meet WP:RS then it is not included. You can of course work to change consensus on what constitutes a reliable source, but you cannot override policy based on your own personal knowledge. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 00:16, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

I have listed my sources. I am still puzzled as to who these "editors" are that I'm supposed to gain consensus from... As far as I can see no one else has edited the page --Shylock's Boy (talk) 15:46, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Consensus is not "given" by "editors". Start a discussion on the talk page on the issue, and let editors discuss on the reliability of the sources. Lynch7 16:53, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Judi Shekoni

I've raised her bio at WP:BLPN. I think the solution is to leave out her birthdate. It certainly does not make sense for Shylocks Boy to add 1977 as he's just done again when he says Ancestry.co.uk says 1978. But my biggest concern is that it looks (again) like something in a gossip magazine rather than an encyclopedic biography. You might want to comment at BLPN. Dougweller (talk) 16:21, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

checkY Replied. Lynch7 17:58, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
It's really not difficult to understand, chaps. The lady herself claims that she was born in 1982, which is the date given on the website of a film she has just had a small role in. The date is provided by her PR who understandably wants to make her younger than she is. I have a library of about 200,000 cuttings from various mags and newspapers going back to Jan 1983. I found an interview she gave to Maxim in November 1999 in which she states she is 22, which would make her year of birth 1977. She certainly wasn't 17 when she gave the interview so the 1982 year is an impossibility. And in any case why would a 17-year-old model claim to be 22? I did further research on the ancestry website (where another user found the correct place of birth for Abi Titmuss) and put in the name "Judith Shekoni" and the dates 1976-1983. I didn't put in a place. There was one result: Judith Shekoni. Manchester. 1978. If she was indeed born on 31 March (and she doesn't dispute that) then the 1977 date can no longer be correct because it's illegal not to register a birth or death within x number of days (can't remember how many and I can't be bothered to check at the moment). The register is divided into four sections: March, June, September, December. So she must have been born on 31 March 1978, which is why I changed it to that date. Another article in the Daily Mail from a few years ago would also point to 1978. Whatever, she wasn't born in 1982... --Shylock's Boy (talk) 18:49, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps true; I am, by no means, an expert at British birth registers, so I'll wait for Dougweller (or Ponyo) to comment. The thing is, we don't know (and its not for us to determine) whether the film website speaks the truth or not. VNT is a regrettable (but highly necessary) policy. Lynch7 18:59, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
We seem to have several possible dates, right? And this discussion about ancestry.co.uk [1] is relevant. I don't understand why it is important to have a date of birth, and in a case like this we should just leave it out - we should not let ourselves be the source of a birthdate when there is uncertainty. Dougweller (talk) 19:29, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Why isn't it for us to determine the truth? We have no axe to grind except for the desire for accuracy on wikipedia. --Shylock's Boy (talk) 19:31, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
:) , that debate will be a long one, but as it stands, we want verifiability, not truth. Its true when Doug says that the best thing to do is leave it out altogether. Its not some overly critical information. Lynch7 02:55, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When I find one like that, I use spamusernameblock as the reason (and delete the page too). That emphasises that the content was wrong as well as the name. I use usernameblock for ones that are violations but not writing spam (the hard version is for obscene and other such ones - gives a different message). Most of my blocks are spamusernameblock - I get a vandalism now and then. Keep up the good work. Peridon (talk) 17:47, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Rahul Gandhi

Hello MikeLynch; you must have noticed number of unconstructive edits going on this page. I just checked and noticed that since Dec 11, this page has witnessed 19 cases of vandalism, 22 edits have been reverted and 7 revisions were undone. On average, we are having 1 unconstructive edit per day. I think I had requested for PP for this article but it was declined. Just wanted to get your opinion on this. What do you suggest? Can I request for page protection again? Cheers AKS (talk) 19:03, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello Arun, yes, I'd requested semi protection of the page, but it was declined. I think you can request it again, hopefully it will be protected for a long time, or even indefinitely. Its a pain to revert vandalism on the same page everyday. Lynch7 11:04, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
I agree. There are several other pages like this and request keeps on getting declined. I was not sure and hence needed guidance of someone more experienced and hence ended up contacting you. The way I see it - Rahul Gandhi page will be attacked more and more in future as state elections have started and 2014 general elections will also be due by the time state elections get over. As I said, I will try again. Thanks for your help. Regards AKS (talk) 12:04, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Ah, that's great :) Lynch7 15:07, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Hi. The article has undergone an AfD, yet someone has created it again, without reference to commencement of shooting. Could you delete it or put up a note? And, the script issue has not ended yet. You might wanna comment. X.One SOS 12:15, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Well.... here is a reference saying that the shooting has not commenced yet. Rakeysh Mehra to start shooting 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' in February. It says Feb end. And yes, please put up some clear lines about this script issue. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 12:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
  • Hello X.One, that "someone" happens to be me. I searched again and could not find any script issues. In case I missed, can you please let me know the source of this information? Also, this project has received considerable (persistent) coverage and is based on historic event / notable person. Ref WP:NFF / NFF exceptions. This film is "worthy of note" and hence article is justified. Your thoughts please. Cheers AKS (talk) 03:58, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Hello Arjun, please refer this AfD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. And the script issue we are talking about is not for this film. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 08:44, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Hello Animesh; actually the name is "Arun" :-). Coming back to the article. AfD discussion commenced on 23rd Dec and since then, if you check the sources, more than 100 news articles have been published. Moreover at the cost of sounding repetitive; I must reiterate that whilst we look at WP:NFF, we must also consider "NFF exceptions". This film is based on historic events, people and has significance. What do you say? Regards AKS (talk) 09:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Oh! Arun! Right! Extremely sorry for the extra J. I must be in my wonderland! We all know that it has had very good publicity. All people tweeting too about the film. But we have to wait till the actual filming starts. There were also news that they wanted to shoot in Pakistan. God knows when will they get proper permissions for that. But if you find anything and want it in the article, you can keep editing the one placed here. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 10:00, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Animesh; no worries for the name. Coming back to the subject, 1) Shooting in Pakistan has been rubbished by the producer (I have updated in the article about shooting locations). 2) I am trying to keep the article current. If everyone feels that the article should not exist (which I don’t feel is necessary), then I will go by the popular vote. Since work has already gone into this, I suggest that we redirect the page to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Redirect can easily be undone once when the shooting commences. Let me know. AKS (talk) 10:44, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
I see no reason to violate WP:NFF in a full-fledged way. Let's redirect to Animesh's user article for now, if its okay with you guys and later undo it. Awaiting reply. X.One SOS 14:47, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
NOTE: The evaluator at AfD had decided to have no redirects at all. Delete and Move it was. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 14:56, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Meh, we need not interpret the closing admin's discussions by the letter. If redirecting to Farhan Akhtar or Rakeysh Mehra seems better than just leaving a page with no information at all, then lets do it. (Note: Don't redirect it to Userspace, let Animesh's userspace draft be as it is, we can work on it there; no cross-namespace redirects please). Lynch7 15:05, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
(I prefer leaving it the way it is, deleted. I don't mind someone redirecting it though). Lynch7 15:13, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Well, then two articles will function simultaneously. Why don't we move the relevant info from the userspace to this one and redirect the new one, then delete the former? I presume you have deletion rights. X.One SOS 15:49, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
I have the tools to do it, but since I was long involved in the AfD and this discussion, I don't want to use the tools on this article :) . You can ask another admin to look at this. Lynch7 16:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
I have redirected the page, after merging some info, and requested Animesh to blank the page and request for deletion. Regards. X.One SOS 17:18, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks guys. I hope that once when the shoot starts, someone will remember to rollback the redirect and restore the article. If need be, I can follow-up. Cheers AKS 19:02, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
