Thanks for the updates on this one. I didn't notice it in the FCC Daily Digest or anything. Good catch! :) - NeutralhomerTalk03:57, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, and yeah, you wouldn't - sadly, the only place the FCC issues actual notices of call sign changes is in the monthly update. However, I found a guy who runs a whole site focused on radio stations that have online streams. He's been going with it for ages, and he has a bunch of other stuff on there too, like complete lists of stations by owner for the big complexes like iHeart and Cumulus (and a bunch of others). To feed it, he does a complete scrape of the FCC each day for all the new applications, etc. that get filed. We got to talking about why I'd landed on his site (that I was looking for information for Wikipedia), and about how the time lag of finding out about call sign changes causes problems, because well-intentioned people sometimes screw up the changes. He offered to build me a little hook into his site - a table that captures every time the call sign associated with a Facility ID is different today from what it was yesterday. I'm a couple of weeks behind right now, but it means I can handle call sign changes within a day or two after they happen. Spreads out the workload, and reduces errors by people who don't know what they're doing. Mlaffs (talk) 04:08, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
Excellent resource! That sounds so many forms of awesome. After the server switch, the FCC daily updates (across the entire site) and the Daily Digest are runninng even slower than before. Before the server switch, there was a 3 day delay, now it's more like 7 or 8. Major pain in the butt! Call sign changes are even slower than that. A station might have the calls on one day, but they won't update on the Call Sign Query section for a week+. So that resource is a major help for updating anything and everything.
If you see anything related to Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland (my states of coverage), let me know (email is fine if you don't wish to post it here). Take a little weight off your shoulders. :) - NeutralhomerTalk05:29, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

I noticed you created a page for W281AW yesterday. There is some crossover with that translator which has me confused which way it should be redirected (currently redirected to parent WKJS). The station rebroadcasts WKJS-HD2, which is actually WCDX. W281AW is part of the rebranding of WCDX as "iPower 92-1 and 104-1".

So, my thinking is, since W281AW is more connected (on-air at least) with WCDX than with WKJS is we redireced W281AW to WCDX. What do you think? - NeutralhomerTalk17:36, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm cool with that. I picked it up due to the license assignment - trying to keep the translators clean now too. The FCC filing says that it's intending for W281AW to rebroadcast WKJM following the assignment, which redirects to WKJS.
But if it's actually airing something else, let's make it right. I'd just comment it into the code so that anyone else who might come along sees that you're already aware it's out of sync with the FCC filing. Mlaffs (talk) 17:45, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
I can do the comment and I have a translator box on the WCDX page regarding W281AW. If you feel the need, I could put one on the WKJS page, unless you feel that would be confusing or overkill. - NeutralhomerTalk18:08, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Nah, I think you're good. Mlaffs (talk) 19:05, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Cool. I did add the comment and switched the redirect, so that part is done. :) - NeutralhomerTalk19:12, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Template TfD

It was closed as a "Keep". We are "encouraged to develop an alternative navigational system to replace this one" as "there are current discussions about restructuring similar templates-in-templates systems in other topic areas, e.g. Template talk:Medicine navs". So, what's the plan, Stan? - NeutralhomerTalk01:15, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Well that's... surprising. I was sure we'd end up with a delete. Regardless, I think it's still worth looking at the approach we'd been working through. I'd suggest throwing it up on the project page to get some comment, but I'm not exactly sold that we'll get any. If you're okay, let me chew on it for a moment. I have some actual work work to do tonight, but I can spin back around to this tomorrow night with a clear mind. Mlaffs (talk) 03:03, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, that works. I think we have a good start, but I wish we had something on template as well, for easier access. - NeutralhomerTalk09:54, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
I implemented the alternative navigation method that I suggested in TfD in Template:Chicago Radio. I welcome your input as to whether this is a beneficial change. Thanks. --Tdl1060 (talk) 22:13, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
I was wondering what you had come up with or if Tdl1060's idea is a better and admittedly less-cluttered idea. - NeutralhomerTalk03:16, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Sorry - life happened. I didn't forget about this, but I've been just dropping into do stuff that's a little more mindless to give me a distraction. I did look at both approaches again. I like Tdl1060's idea, but I'm worried that it doesn't go far enough for the folks who want to nuke this approach entirely. Maybe we should try both? Implement your change on one state - say Utah, maybe - and see if anyone squawks? And then, @Tdl1060: - have you had any feedback on the Chicago template? Mlaffs (talk) 03:48, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
@Mlaffs: No worries, life is a pain in the butt like that sometimes. :) Hope all is well though.
Anywho, I still have the Market Templates by State Templates in my sandbox, so I can put that up on the List of radio stations in Utah page right away. I will watchlist it and keep an eye out for any edits over, let's say, the next 7 days (Thursday to Thursday, since Wednesday is almost over) and report back on what happened...or didn't. :) Sound good? - NeutralhomerTalk04:22, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that'd work. Mlaffs (talk) 04:28, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

I implemented my approach in most of the market navboxes in Illinois, along with many in Louisiana, Wisconsin, and Missouri, and I haven't encountered any complaints. I have held off in states like Utah and Hawaii, as I think that the current method works fine in these states. Including the market templates by state templates that Neutralhomer has in his sandbox in the radio station list articles sounds like a good idea for states like Utah.--Tdl1060 (talk) 04:59, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Added the Market Templates for Utah Template to the List of radio stations in Utah page. I'll let you know what, if anything, I encounter next Thursday. :) - NeutralhomerTalk05:31, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Just a heads up, I just noticed the date of next Thursday, the 26th, aka Thanksgiving. So you might not see my post then until Friday or later if you are travelling. :) - NeutralhomerTalk05:33, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
I'm in Canada, so that's just a normal work day for me. We had Thanksgiving last month. :>) Mlaffs (talk) 13:40, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
I thought you were on this side of the border since you do so much with US radio stations. :) You could celebrate Thanksgiving twice, though. :) - NeutralhomerTalk17:36, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

It's been a week and there has been no comments or reverts to the Market Templates by State Templates added to the List of radio stations in Utah page. Should I add them all across all "List of radio stations in [State]" pages? - NeutralhomerTalk10:55, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, let's give 'er a go. Then you can get your sandboxes back. :>) Mlaffs (talk) 12:29, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
Working on it now, but I just came across a TfD template on the Arkansas one, but I can't figure out who put it there. List of radio stations in Arkansas, at the bottom, open the market template. Also, give a look-see at List of radio stations in Rhode Island. Not sure what's going on there with those data sort codes. - NeutralhomerTalk13:20, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
 Done. :) - NeutralhomerTalk13:35, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
That sort coding was something that used to be on a few other lists too - Texas stands out as being the one where it was in place the longest. I thought they'd all been removed earlier in the fall. Mlaffs (talk) 13:54, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
I thought so too, but it was probably reverted or something weird. :) This is Wikipedia after all. :) - NeutralhomerTalk13:57, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
