Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello Nauticashades and welcome to Wikipedia!

After seeing one of your contributions, I just thought I'd stop by and say hello. There can be a lot to Wikipedia, so I thought I'd let you know of some important links, such as:

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or you can just ask me on my talk page Alternatively, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome and if there is anything at all I can do for you, just leave me a message. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 23:54, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, in order to nominate Image:IronInRocksMakeRiverRed.jpg for delisting you just need to create the subpage Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Image:IronInRocksMakeRiverRed.jpg delist with the following content:

===[[Wikipedia:{{subst:PAGENAME}}|Water colored by iron]]===

Replace this line with your reasons for nominating.
*'''Delist'''. - ~~~~

<!-- additional discussion goes above this line -->
{{-}}

After saving the subpage, add the following line above the other nominations at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates#Nomination for delisting.

{{Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Image:IronInRocksMakeRiverRed.jpg delist}}

Finally, leave a note on the original nominator's talk page (User talk:Duncharris) to let him know the delisting is being debated.

Your stub warning

[edit]

I would very much advise not to leave that note to anyone ever again, especially not to longtime WP:WSS members. When I am engaged in distressed article cleanup, I just note all deficiencies I see and move on to the next article. When I stubsort, I do that exclusively. We all work in different ways. - CrazyRussian talk/email 16:03, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, sorry about that. However, if I am not so leave that note to anyone ever again, then why does that template ({{subst:stubsort}}) exist? NauticaShades(talk) 16:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

that was the first new article I can ever recall making, thanks. I'm currently working on getting more material to expand it - such as a picture of the actual subject, which is the reason I created the article in the first place! Lordkazan 16:08, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My sandbox

[edit]

You remarked "If you need a sandbox, use the official one" when you removed a stub notice from my sandbox page. (I was only going to have the stub there as long as necessary to demonstrate a problem to somebody.) The reason I wasn't using the official one is because it makes it easier to show other people specific issues, such as formatting. If I put things in the official sandbox, it could easily be changed by somebody else by the time somebody sees what I'm trying to point out. So I have to disagree that using the official sandbox is always the best solution. - furrykef (Talk at me) 17:46, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I meant that specifically for the {{stub}} tag. If you put it in your user page, it will show up in the stub category and will distract stub sorters. Otherwise, feel free to make your own sandbox. NauticaShades(talk) 06:00, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PASTOR DONALD MEANS SPIERS

[edit]

If you did not notice it it was I who created the Page. Go to the history and see who did it. Pastor Don passed away on 19th August 2004. How can he do a page man when he already no more????? rencin24

Hey I do know that but listen the photo was uploaded by me what tag do you want me to give for it.?rencin24 06:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

What tag do I put for a photo that I have got. I did put GNU(self made). What else. And Why a deletion when you know the article is relavent.

Hey I promise you that you will suerly know that it is not an POV if you give me one day's time before you tag it as deleted. Please do understand me. Thanks.rencin24 06:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I have no idea what you are trying to say anyways you delete it . I will try creating it again. I really worked hard on this page for days and I know that if you make up your mind you can take away the tag, its left to you. Thanks for all you help. I did tag the image thanks for your help. I hope this not vandalism to you?????? thats what peopel say when I question them?? If Iam rude sorry. Thanks a lot.rencin24 07:09, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Please don't recreate it when it is deleted. You could be blocked for that. YOu should let someone else recreate; someone who maybe can write a factual NPOV article. Also, the picture is now wronngly tagged as self-created. I'm nshould nominate that for deletion too now. Rencin, please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia before you do these sort of things. NauticaShades(talk) 07:10, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you did see the tag that I added for Pastor Don's image. If that is ok with you Cruzrussian says its ok.

Its ok man I have no problem now I am going to be normal from now onwards. Go for it. Let the deletion be done. Thanks. I hope we will be in good terms too.....May I know you moreand more if it is not an offence to you. Thanks.rencin24 10:40, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

The neutrality of the article was challenged by you at 11:43, 28 September 2006. There have been many edits since that time to make the tone of the article less like a eulogy or sermon, and there has been some discussion on the Deletion article, but no more on the actual talk page for the article, which is where the tag says it should take place. If no one has further POV to point out in the article, I propose to remove the tag that says the neutrality is disputed. The possible deletion then hangs on the question of verified notability. Thanks for your work to improve Wikipedia. Please note that I have started a discussion topic at Wikipedia talk:Notability (people) to create a standard for notability of religious leaders. Some should have articles, if, for instance they are an official of their denomination churchwide, or they started some important movement, wrote widely used hymns, or were notable in ways special to religion. They probably should not have an article if they were just a typical priest, rabbi, or mullah serving a local group. We have such standards for Porn actors and sports figures, and it would save a lot of argumentation.Edison 15:31, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which finished with a tally of 52/6/1 (~90%). It was an interesting process which gave me a chance to learn a bit about myself and about the community. My intention now is to slowly ease into using those additional buttons on my page. No use being over eager and mucking up the works. The support of all those who went over my record and/or rallied to my defense after the big oppose vote was instumental to the success of this review. Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, Nauticashades, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

This is a much better thank you than above :P james(talk) 12:14, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FAC for Britannica

[edit]

i see that Encyclopædia Britannica is up for FAC. while most articles are up there in terms of the best of wikipedia, this article is obviously going to be held to the highest standards. to help make it as erudite as possible, i'd suggest reading this guide written by Tony1 (grab some coffee). he is a professional copyeditor in real life, and is extremely keen is the ways of prose kung-fu. in other words, he is scholarly buff as fuck. anyways, give the guide a look over and see if it'll help a bit. it is really quite good, and worth its time.

re: FP promotion

[edit]

I was wondering if you could answer this question. How would I go about moving Image:Archilochus-alexandri-002-edit1.jpg over to the commons? I know if I upload the image with the exact same name, the redirect won't work. However, could I mark the image here for speedy deletion, and then the redirect work? Or is this too much of a hassle and I should let it be and just in the future upload images (and edits) to the commons? Thanks.-Andrew c 01:57, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can upload the same picture on Commons with an every so slightly different name. Then, just tell me ( or do it your self and tell me afterwards) and we can replace all instances of it with the commons version. Then, we tag the non-commons one with {{NowCommons}}. NauticaShades 07:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate all your help. If I am reading Category:Images with the same name on Wikimedia Commons correctly, the admins that handle NC tagged images can work with images with the same file name on the commons, so changing the file name when uploading to the commons and editing all pages on wikipedia that use that image seems unnecessary (though I did it this time). Anyway, thanks again.--Andrew c 14:36, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad I could help. On the subject of changing the name, you are right in a way, but as the old saying goes: If you want it done right, then do it yourself. In other words, the {{NowCommonsThis}} area has severe backlog, and it would take weeks (if not months) to sort this whole issue out. If we upload it under a different name, we can change all instances of the non-commons one to the commons one and get it over with, as opposed to the admins having to do it. The Artemis Fowl WikiProject

[edit]

Hi. In the last month I have discovered the Artemis Fowl WikiProject and have slowly but surely been making progress. I have, however, noticed that no one else seems to be doing anything. So, it's as simple as this. Respond to this message, or your name gets removed from the participants list and I assume leadership of the WikiProject, because I will actually get something done. You have exactly 1 week, or 7 days, or 168 hours. They all mean the same thing.

However, please know that this is nothing personal against you. This is a generic message sent to every person on the participants list. Thanks for your co-operation. -007bond aka Matthew G aka codingmasters 10:51, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Nautica,
This is probably none of my business, but although I'm sure Mdf appreciates your efforts in making him a gallery of his FP images, I personally feel it wasn't the best etiquette to add the "created by Nauticashades" on the end of it. It is not necessary (it's not like it was a difficult task) and that kind of self promotion on someone elses userpage I don't feel is appropriate. Now you may well say leave it up to Mdf to remove, but I get the impression that he's a diffident kind of guy (based on his comment here - which would also explain why we don't see any self noms by him!) and although he may not like it, but won't do anything about it coz he's not sure wether that adding the "created by xxxxx" is the accepted thing to do. --Fir0002 09:27, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok, I removed it. Just so you are aware, I wasn't trying to credit myself, purely the opposite. My goal was in fact to show that he himself had not created it in an attempt to brag, but that I had done it for him (though I suppose all of this "hidden meaning" was hard to discern and I can easily see how it was misconstrued). Will you please verify the FP vote count for picture Image:Twin lantana camara edit.jpg? I can see 6 support votes for edit 1. Regards, Alvesgaspar 18:50, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You were right, I've changed it. However, this unfortunately doesn't change the outcome. Thanks anyways. NauticaShades 19:16, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to insist, but I think it does change the result (2/3 majority). Also, you forgot to count my vote (which, of course, applies to both versions). It should then count 7 support and 3 oppose. - Alvesgaspar 19:53, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
6/3 is a 1/2 majority, not a 2/3 majority. Also, I recounted it, making sure to include yours, and found it was actually less than I had thought. Let me go over the supports quickly:

--NauticaShades 20:05, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I’m sorry to disturb you again. First of all please forgive my ignorance: I did not know that a weak support only counted ½ vote... But I still don’t think the result is clear enough. Two of the oppose votes (Adrian Pingstone and Samsara) were given before edit1 was published and were based on problems that were later solved (at least partially). These votes (and perhaps the support vote of SudLover, if we want to be straight) shouldn’t count. May I suggest that the picture returns to the section “Older nominations requiring additional input from voters”, in order to clarify the consensus? - Alvesgaspar 23:14, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please take a look at the FP talk page. The correct vote count is 7/3 or 6/3 (wether we consider the last "Strong support" vote of SOADLuver or not), which is a majority of 2/3. According to the guidelines, this represents a consensus for promotion and the picture should be considered FP. Alvesgaspar 23:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
