Jana Gana Mana edit reverted
[edit]Your edit was soon reverted. Atleast Vande Mataram has the Hindi version after much discussion.--KnowledgeHegemony 07:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Small correction, that's not because of any "Hindi version", rather Vande Mataram has the song written in Sanskrit using Devanagari script. The question and discussion in the talk page came to consensus that the song Vande Mataram has alternating Sanskrit and Bengali verses, so the script you see there has Devanagari (used to write Sanskrit), and that's not because of any "Hindi"-ness of the song. --Ragib 07:11, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Per the on-going FARC of the article, it needs inline citations. Since you FAd it, can you please at least put one citations per section? That would indicate the exact reference webpage for the facts pertaining to that section. For example, for the section "Signalling', what's the exact reference page? I may follow by adding more inline citations from the appropriate reference webpages.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:59, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Error in map location
[edit]Dear Nichalp, The Map location of District Birbhum (which is the first image in the article) looks like as if it is a town of District Burdwan. This happened because the location of coordinates of its District headquarter suri somwhow is showing up inside the drawn area for Burdwan. Most peobably there is some incongruity in the drawing of the map as I find the Suri coordinates to be within the boundaries of Birbhum. Please let me know how to correct this error. If possible drop me a one liner email to dr.mandal@gmail.com when you reply, as I rarely log in to english wikipedia nowadays. regards,--Dr.saptarshi 15:19, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- I have fixed coords Birbhum district and Suri, Birbhum. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 15:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Ganesh, Thanks for fixing the error. I see that you have redirected the name of it back to Birbhum District. But some time back Nichalp had done the reverse redirect! There is no town by the name Birbhum. So the name Birbhum only means Birbhum district unlike Bankura which is the headquater township in the Bankura district. I am not too familier with all the conventions of nomenclature of Indian districts, your present direction of the redirect (birbhum -->birbhum district) sounds reasonable and matches with what I used to understand of the convention. Do you think nichalp might have something else in mind? --Dr.saptarshi 00:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of images(Thermal power station)
[edit]Sir, I see that you have supported me against deleting my images. Of course they are not up to the mark as required by Wikipedia. I remember to have seen your discussion note on this some time back in some PALM top of somebody else. Our computer here at NZ is down since about a month. To day only it has seen the light. Hereafter I may be regular, subjected to my memory capability.
My another Wikipedian in USA (Mr HP..)is improving my drawings. The article of mine as edited. But I feel is not sufficient. Some important points are missed. The editing is really good now as required by W standards. However some links to manufacturers have been added. I think W does not permit.
Shall contact you in a few days time. Meanwhile drafting another article to support my requirement of technocrats, as already opined in my user page.
Do not bother much about me.

Vandalism
[edit]I am sorry if i've offended you in any way. It was just a joke. You may block me if you'd like. Nikkul 11:21, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Is User:121.44.18.250 you? If so, it is extremely immature of you to vandalise someone's talk page and you should be blocked for such an act. GizzaChat © 01:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Gizza, I think Nikkul is refering to this edit a month back; in response to my comment on the Talk India page. Nikkul admitted to being the IP 68.36.160.96 (talk · contribs) on my talk page, but said that the use of the IP account was inadvertent and he was not creating an IP sock. My suggestion is that we should let bygones-be-bygones unless such actions are repeated.
- I believe User:121.44.18.250 is a distinct and more pernicious vandal from Down Under, as opposed to New Jersey. Abecedare 02:29, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, sorry about the misunderstanding. I do hope however, that Nikkul becomes more responsible in the future and doesn't resort to these types of activities. GizzaChat © 02:34, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

user name change
[edit]Hi, what is the problem with me changing my user name, I have been a good contributor since i was last blocked and i have been removing hundreds of spam links from India related articles and a lot of vandalism as well. The personal attack trouble that I had in the past was kind of provoked and about the so called racist page that I had, well I was only trying to creat a Borat style of caracter but some people took it the wrong way. It was also mentioned that I had the word wog in my user page, well where i come from, people joke about that sort of thing, it just depends on how you say it. See Wog Boy. If I was going to get a new name I would prefer Adam.J.W.C. or HumphryTheFunLovingFellow. Thanks

[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Featurednichalp.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:32, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Nichalp. How much more work are you going to be able to give this page? We try never to close if people are willing to work, but this still has basic cleanup issues (weblinks that need unpacking as references, for instance). Marskell 08:28, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- OK, just let us know. We've arrived at the point where a review into its third month is not unusual. At a glance, the version at point of featuring will still have citation issues. Marskell 15:59, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive
[edit]A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.
You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 03:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Goa has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. GizzaDiscuss © 05:36, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry!
[edit]I see your edits are sparse at the moment, so I hope all is well. Bhutan spent eleven weeks on FAR, including two full months in the FARC section. I feel terrible removing, but the worry is that when the page pushes up above thirty we can't do justice to them individually, so we need to keep it moving. Eventually things just have to go one way or another. If and when you want to take it back to FAC, Tony, myself, and I'm sure others will help out.
(I'm in India, incidentally, your most frequent muse. Other than nerve-wracking crossings of busy streets, it's lovely!). Marskell 14:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

New Guideline Proposition for article naming: People, Places and Things
[edit]Dear Nichalp,
Since my arrival to Wikipedia (~06/2005) I've become increasingly aware of the many different methods of article naming: I've recently become involved in a few discussions on the subject, and have been considering what this looks like, for Wiki as a whole, from the reader point of view. I've also devised a simplified article naming method that you can find here.
The problem with this debate is that it always returns to a central "settlement" naming convention that caters to the local usage of many English-speaking places - namely the U.S. - but not everyone in the world is aware of local usage and geography in other countries. As Wikipedia is an international media, and I think it would be very useful to have international points of view on this question.
I have been following your involvement in Wikipedia for a few years now, and know that you are a valued and much-respected contributor here. For this I would like to ask your help in opening an "international-Wiki" naming convention question to wider attention - and of course your opinion would be of great value there as well.
Thanks for your time and interest, best,
THEPROMENADER 10:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Director General of Police
[edit]A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Director General of Police, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Spa toss 19:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Redirect of User:GDon4t0/Sandbox
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User:GDon4t0/Sandbox, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User:GDon4t0/Sandbox is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User:GDon4t0/Sandbox, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hi Nichalp, I know you are busy, but your urgent help is needed. As you know, in February 2007, we had an RfC on the Talk:India page (see here), and it was felt by a majority of the people commenting that stability of the article is important. Yesterday, out of the blue, Blnguyen, who has no history of editing on the India page, made a post on the page, that set all this off. Could you take a look at this section of the Talk:India page? In particular, User:Sarvagnya, for example, has returned to his scheme for de-constructing the India page. (By way of background: Ragib, who was sort of subbing for you on the India page is busy too. Blnguyen seems to think that the page is in bad shape and is about to be de-FA'd. He feels that it needs many more citations (and their lack) is reason enough for it to fail an FAR. I know that you discouraged over-crowding the text with too many citations (especially when the text was composed in the summary-style, as India is). I think Blnguyen has some valid points: the page needs more (and certainly better) citations and the prose (especially of some new sections that were created by other people) needs revamping, but I think you might be in a good position to assess Blnguyen's idea of expanding the article to twice its size.) Regards, Fowler&fowler«Talk» 12:28, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi there, I've just had an e-mail on OTRS saying the image isn't of the Vishwamitri River, but the Mahi River, so I said I would confirm with you what river it actually is. I have to say I'm pretty sceptical about the claims anyway. Kind Regards. Nick 17:53, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
