Icteria

[edit]

I will give you some links below.

The correct placement of Icteria is still controversial. Most still hold the view that it is a basal parulid best placed as a sister subfamily (Icteriinae) to the more evolved Parulids of Parulinae. However, there are some that see it as an icteridae-associated.

My impression is that this is still an open question. I found an article about this bird in the Lab News at Cornell which may be of interest: The Chat Mystery Solved and the related article What is a wood-warbler? A molecular characterization of a monophyletic Parulidae The 52nd Supplement to the American Ornithologists’ Union Check-list of North American Birds includes the following note: "Phylogenetic analyses of sequences of mitochondrial DNA (Lovette and Bermingham 2002, Yuri and Mindell 2002, Klein et al. 2004, Klicka et al. 2007) indicate that the genus Icteria represents an old lineage of uncertain affinities, probably related to the Parulidae, Icteridae, or Emberizidae." --Big_iron (talk) 12:00, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
