Information icon Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to Barrow Sixth Form College. I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this: |image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]], instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do: |image=SomeImage.jpg. There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! Thanks for uploading File:Furness College Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Centre.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Pipkin2.0. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Chetwynde School, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. No, I am not being paid for these edits, directly or indirectly. I am trying to set up this page for public information in my own time. I am employed by the trust but not to do any promotion or marketing activities. I’ll be guided by you as what I need to do, if anything, to get this article published.

Further to my comment above, I have now declared an interest on the page in question and on my user page. Although I am most certainly not paid for my edits, I do work for the organisation so it is a fair query you have raised and I want to be as transparent as possible to avoid compromising the integrity of my contributions. I hope this is ok.

As you can probably tell, I am not experienced in starting a new article but I have tried my best to remain completely impartial and to ensure the article is stating pure fact and no opinion. I have sought out a wide variety of references including from Government bodies and press articles. If you think there is anything I can do to improve it, please let me know.

Finally, the trust owns the copyright for the logo and the image of Chetwynde School but they are free to use by the general public in matters relating to the trust. As I declared, I have the authority to decide whether the usage is fair and I do so in relation to the trust's article and any appropriate link articles.

Thanks for declaring your conflict of interest. Please be sure to read WP:COI for more details about expectations. With respect to the image of the school, it's not sufficient that it qualify for fair use, it must meet the stricter policy on Wikipedia for non-free content. The use of such content must meet all of the non-free content criteria. In the particular case of the school photo, there is no impediment to somebody taking a photo of the image and releasing it under a free license so it is replaceable and fails WP:NFCC#1. -- Whpq (talk) 00:46, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - that is much clearer. I did read the non-free content criteria but I didn’t understand the point you’ve raised. On reflection, the image is obviously free use and I will change it later.

I don’t recognise this source which, I assume is South African as it is written in English and Afrikaans. This is not a source I would use without further research. The sources I use are sound as I research their independence prior to citing them.
