Adopting

[edit]

Hi there! I noticed you have requested adoption via the Adopt-a-User program. Well, I'm currently looking for an adoptee to help become a member of our community. If you're interested in being adopted by me, just let me know by replying to this message. Thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon! Robert Skyhawk So sue me! That would be great!

Fantastic! I've updated your user page to add the Adoptee userbox. Now that the details are out of the way, let's get started! First let me tell you a bit about myself. I joined Wikipedia in December 2007, and I've been doing mostly maintenance around the wiki. I haven't written many articles, but I am familiar with the guidelines and structure of articles from working at pages like Good Article Nominations and Articles for Creation. I'm from Utah (one of the few who isn't LDS), and I'm into Geography and Aviation.
But enough about me. I'm here to make sure you have all the help you need in becoming part of the community that edits this encyclopedia. So let me ask, what are you interested in doing? I saw on your userpage that you are fairly skilled in Spanish and French--that makes you a perfect candidate to translate articles. If that's what you want to do, I have some experience there myself and would be happy to help you.
If you just want to start by helping improve articles, you can try to find articles that need more information. "Stub" articles, for example, are articles that are just starting out--usually no longer than a couple of paragraphs. If you'd like, you can tell me what kind of articles you think you'd like to edit, and I can give you a list of (or maybe just one or two) articles that you might like to improve. Then, I can help you improve those articles, and help you find possible references.
I'm really just here to help you out as you edit Wikipedia. So if any of the above mentioned ideas interest you, let me know and I'll help you get started.
P.S. Do you use IRC? If so, Wikipedia has several channels on the freenode server, most notably #wikipedia-en. If you can sign on to the freenode server, it will help make things faster if we can have a live conversation. Just find Robert_Skyhawk.
P.P.S. A good habit to get into is to reply to topics on the page they start on, rather than going to the other user's talk page. So just reply to this message right here rather than on my talk page...I'm watching this page so I'll know when you reply. Thanks, Robert Skyhawk So sue me!
