I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
tag from Michael Hammond, which you proposed for deletion. Deleting a full professor who has been a department chairman and written books is not likely to be an uncontroversial deletion.. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}}

If there is a possibility that there are references for a subject that would support notability don't use PROD. First see if you can find information about the person. (For a professor you need to check Google Scholar.) Then if you haven't been able to find anything yourself, nominate the article for deletion at AfD. StarryGrandma (talk) 02:33, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

I searched Google Scholar, it includes many publications by him and they are in turn cited by others, but I was not able to get in depth coverage from independent sources to meet the general notability criteria. Same in news and books. Also it does not seem to meet WP:ACADEMIC. Should I nominated for AfD or the publications and the fact they are cited is enough satisfy notability?. --Rogerx2 (talk) 23:05, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- You have not been editing here at Wikipedia very long. Notability is a complicated question and is different for different types of articles. I suggest you get more experience actually editing articles and adding references before you start proposing that articles be deleted. However if you want to keep doing deletions, pick an area that you already know a lot about and look at just those articles. Read Wikipedia:Notability. In the box on the right hand side of that page there are separate articles that cover additional details for specific areas. There is a lot to cover so it is better to learn to work in one area at a time. For example, there are lot of details in the Wikipedia:Notability (academics) article. You didn't say why the Michael Hammond article didn't meet the academic requirements. Academics often do not have in depth coverage from independent sources, and that is not a problem.

- When you find an area you want to work in, you will see articles without references or few references which could be deleted if references cannot be found. But you need to check first if references do exist outside of Wikipedia. If you find them, add them to the article. That will begin to give you the experience you need. I started by following the recomendations on the community portal. But I do see your point. Not all articles are the same. I will stay clear of Academics and focus on other types of articles. I will use deletion only If I can not fix the articles and only after reading and understanding the policies. I think the general notability guidelines are pretty straightforward I will also review the specific notability guidelines like Wikipedia:Notability (people) etc. If in doubt I will ask at the teahouse or move on to the next one.
