Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:
- Respect copyrights – do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view – this is one of Wikipedia's core policies.
- Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page and follow Wikipedia's Biography of Living Persons policy. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced with multiple reliable sources.
- No edit warring or abuse of multiple accounts.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject; doing so will result in your account or IP being blocked from editing.
- Do not use talk pages as discussion or forum pages as Wikipedia is not a forum.
The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello RoxastheRoxxor! Your additions to Sanitary Tortilla Factory have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. See the first two entries here: https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&oldid=1169197840&action=compare&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newyorker.com%2Fmagazine%2F1984%2F08%2F06%2Fthe-mj-sanitary-tortilla-factory Thank you. Note that I have NOT removed them, I hope that you will. At the moment the article is also far too promotional. Doug Weller talk 17:53, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, RoxastheRoxxor. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Sheri Crider, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. If you are or are connected to Sheri Crider personally or professionally, or the Sanitary Tortilla Factory, you will need to disclose this on your user page, and follow the guidelines for conflict of interest editing. Thank you. Netherzone (talk) 21:50, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- I appreciate your concern, I am not not associated with Sanitary Tortilla Factory or Sheri Crider. I am interested in creating Wikipedia pages for artists, art activists, and art venues in the Southwest US. RoxastheRoxxor (talk) 21:59, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- Could you please explain how it is that you uploaded two images as your "own work"; these are a logo that was a logo authored by "Sanitary Tortilla Factory" but credited as your own work; the other is an image of the facade in 2017, credited as your "own work" but has Sheri Crider as the author of the work. How were you able to obtain copyright permission if you are unassociated? Netherzone (talk) 22:29, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- I uploaded them but did not create them or do I own copyright to the images. I emailed the owner via their website and received permission to share them. Is that not ok, or should I delete them? RoxastheRoxxor (talk) 22:38, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- That information needs to be sent to the Creative Commons Volunteer Response Team by the actual copyright holder. Just word of mouth that someone got permission is not enough - we are an encyclopedia. Otherwise it's a copyright law violation. However, did Crider purchase the original logo from M&J's and had the copyright transfered to her or was it a newly created logo? And was permission received from the muralist, or did Crider also paint the mural?
- As to the COI, since you have been coordinating with gallery and copyright owner, you are indeed a connected editor. You need to follow our guidelines, and stop editing the articles directly, and instead use the edit request system. Please read WP:COI to learn the exact policies/guidelines. Netherzone (talk) 22:55, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
- It doesn't appear that requesting permission to use an image violates the COI. This is pretty standard when requesting image usage rights for reproduction. Is that not the same on Wiki? RoxastheRoxxor (talk) 03:08, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the your concern. I will delete the uploaded images from Wiki, and defer that the copyright holder submit as I don't have the information requested. On a side note, I just have to say that your tone is completely unprofessional and makes me not want to participate in further articles, especially if this is how you talk to new editors. RoxastheRoxxor (talk) 03:26, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry if my tone was too direct or seemed blunt. I work with a lot of new editors helping to improve articles and have found that direct communication is usually best. There's a lot to learn here, and it takes a while. Please do check out the links (blue text) in the Welcome message above as they will provide some basics. Netherzone (talk) 04:50, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- It's wasn't direct or blunt, the language used was exclusionary. I appreciate the apology, I'm new to this and want to contribute to the community about subjects I'm passionate about. I will check out the links to learn and grow, I do think my first attempt at an article with grow as more editors contribute. RoxastheRoxxor (talk) 04:55, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- @RoxastheRoxxor, I don't make up the "rules" around here, the community does through the process of consensus. There is so much to learn about how WP functions and it's policies and guidelines - it took me years and I am still learning! The reason for that is we are an encyclopedia, not just a website. Thank you for creating the article. I hope you like the improvements made to develop the historical and cultural background of the Sanitary Tortilla Factory going back to the 1930s. I was able to find a lot of sources on Newspapers.com, and there are more available, too. M&J's supported the arts going way back, so it is a nice legacy for the current art space in the building. I was able to find a copyright-free image of the gallery on Flickr which I added to the gallery section. I redlinked a few things that may be wiki-notable if you are interested in working on those collaboratively as possible new articles. Netherzone (talk) 19:27, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Sheri Crider. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read!
