Sarbox, please stop switching back to singular verbs in entries for bands with plural names.

Proper nouns which are plural in form take a plural verb in both American and British English.

Examples: British English: "The Clash are a well-known band." American English: "The Clash is a well-known band." Both: "The Beatles are a well-known band." British English: "New England are the champions." American English: "New England is the champion." Both: "The Patriots are the champions." 158.223.1.117 14:21, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sarbox, your behavior is puzzling. Why do you keep reverting, in clear breach of the wikipedia guideline's mentioned above? Please provide a reason, here, on my talk page or at Talk:The_Decemberists, before reverting again. Brendanfox 04:16, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mentioned that you are an editor at a university newspaper. Perhaps you should look to the copyeditor of the New York Times for guidance, then. From a Times article: "It was midsummer of 1964 that the Supremes scored their first major hit". [1] It is more likely that you are mistaken than the Times. All Music Guide, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NY Times all use plural forms when the subject is a plural band name. Please stop making these awkward grammatical changes. Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello Sarbox/Archive 1, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 08:52, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
