Hi Stephanie, It's Oliver. Here are a few useful links you can share tomorrow...

Most importantly the Reference generator that creates the proper syntax for citations. Citation syntax is probably the most difficult coding to type out.

It sounds like you've done a lot of work locating materials to help get new users going. Here are some other things that might be useful:

In regards to edits of new users not showing up right away, that only involves StablePages. Those are articles that have high rates of vandalism. If any of the new editors edit any of those articles, the edits need to be unflagged for the edits to become live, which is something I can do. But I can also confirm that new user's rights, which washes away completely any inability to edit StablePages immediately.

Two other things that might or might not be of interest to your guests tomorrow:

  • Rudimentary Biography Creation if someone wants to try it out. It really just makes a simple mark-up version you can copy and paste into a new article. A more experienced user can then go in and make it look prettier.
  • WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Stub_types for a list of all the stub templates, to put at the end of short articles that have been created.

P.S. Here is some reading about the drama around Wikipedia's VisualEditor.

Best of luck tomorrow! (Oliver) Kingturtle = (talk) 23:48, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

user rights

[edit]

I've updated the user rights of all the new accounts listed on Wikipedia:Meetup/Rochester/ArtandFeminism 2015, so none of them will have issues going forward with their edits being under review. Best, Kingturtle = (talk) 01:49, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much! I hope they were all OK. We probably didn't create anything too major, but I think it was a good start.

P.S. I wrote this article from scratch today. It was on the official list of articles they wanted created: Elizabeth Bauer Mock. I think it turned out pretty good! Kingturtle = (talk) 04:12, 8 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's great! I finally got around to looking at this today...I'm impressed...you're really good at this! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.83.126.137 (talk) 22:02, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how long it will be up there, but my article on Elizabeth Bauer Mock is now listed in the Did you know section of the Main Page :) Kingturtle = (talk) 02:30, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You may receive a message that your account is no longer "Confirmed" - that is because it was upgraded to "Autoconfirmed"; no action is needed on your part. Happy editing, — xaosflux Talk 22:49, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
