New userboxes

[edit]

I have deleted a userbox template you recently created, as userboxes should no longer be created in templatespace per the terms of the German userbox solution. Here is the userbox code so that you can recreate the userbox in your userspace ("userfying") if you wish.

Actually I think I was right, if You go and read what the fields "Preceded by" and "Followed by" are for, You will remove the addition. Thank You kindly, feydey 21:12, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm afraid it is only for trilogies and such. feydey 21:20, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the "Preceded by" and "Followed by" fields are very well defined. The problem is that You want to define it by the Director, why not by leading Actor/Actress or by Producer etc. - this is why it is like that. Do You see the point. And please do not go changing it by yourself. Best, feydey 21:28, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for volunteering to remove the links, I did the first film by Kitano, so You can do the rest. :) feydey 21:44, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two examples

[edit]

Below are two examples of controversial subjects that have been relatively free of POV pushing, I think because they're presented in a way that keeps people from feeling that a particular POV is present:

Attack on Pearl Harbor- I wrote the original version of the first section in the Background section about how Japan reached the decision to go to war with the U.S. Who's to blame for starting WWII in the Pacific is, of course, a very controversial topic and that article attracts a lot of POV pushers. Although other editors have modified my text to some degree, it still reads pretty much the same as I originally wrote it.

Japanese war crimes- An edit war was occurring in the "Official Apologies" section [1] (see the discussion page for details on the edit war). After I rewrote most of that section with numerous citations, it has been left completely alone since then. That article is also very controversial and attracts "tons" of POV-pushers, but that section has been left completely alone. I guess no one has a problem with it so far.

My point: Don't give up. You know that you've presented a controversial subject neutrally and well when it gets left alone, and then you've accomplished something in adding value to the overall Wikipedia body of knowledge. I'm sure that you have a lot that you can contribute to Wikipedia, in addition to what you've contributed so far. Cla68 02:33, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

it's really kind of you. i need time as i'm currently busy, but maybe i'll be able to find enough time though. Shame On You 01:55, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hey, you said your dad fought in World War II under the Free French Navy. I was just curious: what battles did he participate in?UberCryxic 00:42, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

wasn't my dad, by my grand father. my dad was Alpine Hunter in the french alps (he made igloos, sounds weird). My grand father lived in the French Algeria colony (it was actually called a "département"). I'll ask my father and uncle about that. Already heard the ship's name, remember it was famous (found pictures on google years ago), but i can't remember its name now. i'll just ask and told you. my father and grand father lived in Arzew (aka Arzeu, aka Arziw aka St.Leu). US troops came in Arzew in 1942 but my grand father was in the navy for years (my father was born four years later, actually he was "made" when my grand father returned from war in august/september 1945). they seemed to have fought there: here is an US Ranger in the outskirts of Arzew (father's house was behind the woods near the church). I don't know who they were figting, German or Vichy France. There must be infos about these events in US army or veterans sites. There's the Battle of Arzew wiki red link, its probably related with the 1942 US ops. Shame On You 01:12, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah you said the Arromanches; that was a famous ship. This is cool man. Unfortunately, I don't have the DVDs, but I can sort of surmise what battles your grandpa might have been in.UberCryxic 16:34, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

like i said i'm not sure if it was this one. i just have to ask my father the ship's name and i'll be able to track the ship's op on internet. about the dvd, i've watched some yesterday, but it wasn't the good one. i'll check other volumes (collection is named "Images of War") and will encode the good one with US-english audio so you can see and understand by yourself. about US troops in French Algeria, seems the city (a strategic harbour) was taken by the German hence the US landing. Found infos here. Shame On You 16:39, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm into French military history, more specifically. Got into it after studying Napoleon's campaigns.UberCryxic 17:26, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

alright, i see. by the way found the video documentary i was talking about. it is a really well made document highly educative and really moving (each time i see the epilogue i am touched). it covers the Nazi and Allied operations from Austria to France. it was done by the US strategists it explains everything with maps (the Nazi tactics used in France is the best illustration i have seen so far). Well i'm now trying to turn it into Divx so you can enjoy it. it's called "Why We Fight #3: Divide & Conquer". From my point of view , i see many similarities between the French social situation in 1939 and 2006. Great book about this is Pierre Bruckner's La Tyrannie de La Pénitence (Penitence's tyranny), really educative. Well i'll try to make the Divx using the US-English audio so you can show this to the uneducated brainless post-2001 US claiming the French surrended without fighting. Shame On You 18:52, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DIVIDE & CONQUER video documentary!!

[edit]

great! the Divx (Xvid) is now in progress but i've just found the same video available in all formats and for free HERE (Pt.1/4)! it is licensed under free commons so we can use screnshots from it to add illustrations in Wikipedia. I've red user comments everyone found it great (except an idiot who only liked the animation and claimed the doc is too serious...). Watch, enjoy and learn! nEUROn translation

[edit]

In general "aviation english", this would be translated as "twin-engine" and "single-engine" (for instance, I work on a twin-engine Bell 412 helicopter, and the one parked next door is a single-engine Bell OH-58). When the term is used repeatedly, it's also acceptable to abbreviate it slightly to "twin" and "single", example: a Cessna 441 is a twin, a Cessna 150 is a single. Hope that helps. My teenage daughter is learning French at school, and since I help her with her homework a lot, I'm pretty much learning it, too...although we're still at the "beginner" stage. Oh, by the way, I added the standard UAV project info box to the LOGIDUC page, but wasn't sure which of the aircraft to put specs up for. What do you suggest? Akradecki 16:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your infos. Hehe bienvenue, You'll notice French is not so far from English language as actually more than 40% (or 60%?) of English are from French origins including "aviation". There's this useful synonyms free online, English-French/French-English dictionary you can use to learn new terms. I saw your entry to the LOGIDUC, I like the frame around the picture it makes it looks great! Since the AVE-D and C were scale models (the usual industrial process), I suggest to use the final vehicle AVE Grand Duc. Shame On You 17:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
BTW if you haven't seen it yet here's the Petit Duc flying :) and this is a video of the Dassault Super Etendard (carrier Charles de Gaulle) in a bombing mission in support to the US in Afghanistan.

European defense question

[edit]

A few days ago, you removed the F-35 reference from the nEUROn article with the edit summary stating "removed US aircraft (has nothing to do with european defense". I don't really care if that info is in the article or not, but I'm really curious why you said that in the edit summary, as several European nations are purchasing the F-35 for European defense, the Dutch being the latest to be in the news (getting 85 ships, no less). Akradecki 19:22, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"European aerospace companies' design offices" as far i as know the F-35 is an US aircraft and so is not manufactured by an "european company" is it? Shame On You 02:45, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is a UCLA? (UCAV?) re Dassault nEUROn

[edit]

On 19:49, 14 November 2006, you added the text:

first indochina war

[edit]

I have reverted this edit. The infobox is supposed to list combatants - nations (or alike) that sent troops to fight in the battle. Advisers are not combatants. Suppliers are not combatants. As to your personal attack that I know nothing about that war, you may wish to know that I wrote most of that article, and got it up to FA status. Fair use rationale for Image:Straydogdvdusa.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Straydogdvdusa.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 18:39, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:29-juin-1962-rocher-noir-algeria-propaganda.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dassault-uav-fleet.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dassault-uav-fleet.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ALN-soldier-mortar.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:ALN-soldier-mortar.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:19, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
