In much Wikipedia page,there is a GPS coordinates that tell where is the exact location of that place.How to add that coordinates??
- Hi Simpson H. I did this for Doom Bar. It's a feature of the Template:infobox UK feature under latitude and longitude. This in turn calls Template:Coord which actually puts the coordinates up there. So, basically, check if the relevent infobox has an option for latitude and longitude, which means it will add the template for you, otherwise add it manually. (As to where to get them from, I got mine from Google earth). Hopefully this answers your question, but if I've gone a little over your head, let me know and I'll come back WormTT 09:17, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Hello Simpson H., to expand on what WormTT said, you can use Template:Coord. This is an example:
{{Coord|57|18|22.5|N|4|27|32.7|W|display=inline)}
and will display as the following:
57°18′22.5″N 4°27′32.7″W / 57.306250°N 4.459083°W
A breakdown of the values used is the following:
{{Coord|DEGREES|MINUTES|SECONDS|LATITUDE (N/S)|DEGREES|MINUTES|SECONDS|LONGITUDE (W/E)|display=PLACE TO DISPLAY COORDS (title/inline)}}
You can obtain the specific coordinates usually from Google Map (more info here: Wikipedia:Obtaining geographic coordinates).
There are three ways to add coordinates in an article using the display=
parameter:
display=inline
(the default) to display in the body of the article only,
display=title
to display in the title only, or
display=inline,title
to display in both places.
{{Coord|57|18|22.5|N|4|27|32.7|W|display=inline)}
for example, will only show the coordinates in the place where it is defined. While
{{Coord|57|18|22.5|N|4|27|32.7|W|display=title)}
will show the coordinates in the upper right hand corner like in most geographical articles currently in wikipedia. Using the third option will enable you to display them both.
