Links
[edit]As discussed on User talk:69.181.139.230, please do not add links to pages that add nothing to the article. Wikipedia is not a repository of links. Thanks, Bushytails 06:40, 24 October 2005 (UTC).
Linking
[edit]It is always nice to have additional links and resources for scientific topics so I tried to add some external links to astronomy topics to a website I found that is geared for amateur astronomers - but several people here have removed them stating that its either spam, redundant or irrelevant. I guess additional links - even relevant ones - are not wanted.
I will no longer contribute to this site. I did not realize that additional resources would be such a bother.
- "I guess additional links - even relevant ones - are not wanted". Correct. Wikipedia is not a repository of links. External links should go beyond relevant and contain useful information to add to the article... if we compare, say, Earth with Astronomy Online - Earth, it's fairly obvious there's far more information already in the wikipedia article, and the link doesn't add anything to the article at all.
- Additional resources are good, but only if they actually are an additional resource. A link to a resource with less information is not useful in any fashion.
- If you want to contribute to the articles, the best way, rather than adding useless links, is to improve the article's content... fix typos, add more information, add free photographs, etc... such contributions are always welcome!
- Sorry your first experience with wikipedia was a poor one, and I hope you do contribute in the future, Bushytails 18:24, 24 October 2005 (UTC).
