Two thoughts
[edit]This is a great start to an article. Two comments, though.
First, I think you need to read, or at least browse, Blood Brothers: The Fatal Friendship Between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X. I have it in EPUB format; if you'd like a copy, send me an e-mail message.
Second, there were a lot of forces at work that led to Malcolm X's departure from the Nation of Islam. We cover it in some detail in Malcolm X#Disillusionment and departure. He didn't give a speech about the Kennedy assassination; Elijah Muhammad had told his ministers not to comment on the assassination. In a Q&A session after his speech, Malcolm was asked what he thought about the assassination, and he replied that he thought it was a case of "chickens coming home to roost" -- violence being brought against perpetrators of violence -- and he cited examples of what he was referring to: the murders of Patrice Lumumba and Medgar Evers and the bombing of the church in Birmingham that killed four little girls. Then he added (I paraphrase) "as a country boy, I was always glad to see the chickens come home to roost". It was a flip comment after a typical speech, the sort of thing Malcolm X was known for -- that's why the reporters showed up for his routine speeches -- and I think he was probably surprised that it got any attention at all, let alone the outrage it generated.
The introduction of the book that reprinted the speech Malcolm X gave that day notes that people often look for the "chickens coming home to roost" speech, and there was no such thing.

I am seeing this right now. You should have pinged me MShabazz. My own interest right now is in the evolution and progression of Ali's religious and spiritual views, and details about why Malcolm left NOI are not so relevant because of this. It is enough to know that Elijah and Malcolm developed mutual distrust. Besides the "chickens coming home to roost" statement (which made Elijah furious), other factors for why Malcolm became disgruntled with NOI were (as per my reading): financial corruption in the Nation (with the NOI owning expensive real estate and NOI leaders owning luxury cars), and also questionable sexual morality of Elijah Muhammad, and the fact that he no longer believed Elijah and Wallace Fard were divine figures. I condensed and tweaked this article to come up with Ali's Religion. I gave the link to the new article at the talk page of the main Ali article (Ali's WP biography) and that is probably the best place to discuss this issue (so as to maximize the number of participants in the discussion.)
I would love to read "Blood Brothers" at some point of time; I will email you for the soft copy if i am unable to obtain it elsewhere.
