Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (Redwolf24 03:18, 10 July 2005 (UTC)) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (Redwolf24) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dilfer trent.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Krystyn Dominik 04:13, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading Image:Common.jpg. Its copyright status is unclear, so it may have to be deleted. Please leave a note on the image page about the source of the image. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, for a list of copyright tags, that you can use. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 05:01, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Please make sure that any and all images are not encumbered by someone else's copyright.

Thank you for uploading Image:Dangelo.jpg. Its copyright status is unclear, so it may have to be deleted. Please leave a note on the image page about the source of the image. Please verify images before you upload

[edit]

Hello, you have uploaded quite a number of images over the past couple of days. I am still checking but you have not provided a source or a license for any of these. I have asked you previously to provide this information when you upload an image. In order to be used on Wikipedia, an image most include some kind of license allowing it to be freely distributed. Images that are protected by copyright, as well as those that do not specify any copyright, do not include such a license and thus should not be uploaded to Wikipedia.

Without appropriate licenses, these images that you have been uploading are subject ot deletion, and I'm compelled to inform you that this potentially creates a lot of work for your fellow Wikipedians. Thanks for your consideration. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:08, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Need source and license

[edit]

I'm guessing you had seen my previous notes, because I noticed that your last few uploads, starting with Image:Jack Ramsay.jpg, did include the source information. Unfortunately, that isn't sufficient, as the image is protected by a copyright - take a look at the bottom of that web page.

Take a look at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. You need to include the appropriate tag when you upload an image. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:10, 14 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your email

[edit]

I didn't see your email until now - it's probably just as well if you leave comments either here or on my talk page. I looked at the website from which you obtained the D'Angelo image. If you'll notice on the main page, at the bottom it says "The Horse edited, designed by Jack Seale. © Jack Seale 2004. No copying without permission." That means we can't use his pictures on Wikipedia, unless he grants us permission. If he had granted permission, this is something you would indicate at the same time you uploaded the image (and that's when you can click that checkbox that allows you to upload the image). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 01:34, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Frankly speaking, I think that web site probably copied the images from somewhere else, which means he's not in a position to grant permission anyway.

Image:Tatyana.jpg appears tobe copyright. Could you verify that it is available under a free license? Guettarda 14:52, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop uploading images, and read this first

[edit]

I think you misunderstood my previous comments. If the image has a copyright, that generally means you should not upload it to Wikipedia. There are few exceptions to this and the copyright notice will usually say so. So far, the images you have uploaded are protected by copyright and should not have been uploaded. You are including the copyright information, but attributing credit does not mean we can use the image. And again, remember that someone else has to go back and clean all this up. Thank you. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 19:07, 17 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:JERSEYS-ARE-TIGHT.jpg has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. If you feel that this image should not be deleted, please go there to voice your opinion.
Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:57, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • The primary reason is that this image is currently an orphan - the image is not used on any pages in Wikipedia. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:38, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • By the way, other reasons that an image might be deleted include:
      • Not English - the image contains text that is not English.
      • No source - the image does not contain source and copyright info.
      • Obsolete - the image has been replaced by a better version.
      • Out-of-focus - the image is blurry.
      • Unencyclopedic - the image doesn't seem likely to be useful in an encyclopedia.
      Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:38, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just figured I would chime in here... Note that these other reasons do not necessarily apply to this particular image, I think Zzyzx was just listing the various criteria. However, it would help matters if you could attribute a source more specific than the Yahoo Group page where you found the photo. The URL does not tell us who took the picture, and whether he or she agrees to it being used on Wikipedia (or has released it into the public domain). And if they do give permission, this needs to be included at the time of upload.

Again, take a look at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags some time. Any picture you upload should include one of these tags (and note that some of these tags, if applicable, mean that the picture could still be deleted).

By the way, the URL doesn't work, and often these Yahoo Groups require membership, even just to look at the web page. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:14, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Dangelo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to Neal Boortz. Readers looking for serious articles will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, try the sandbox, where you can write (almost) whatever you want. --Maniwar (talk) 02:25, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

October 2007

[edit]

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Ken Dolan. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Speedy deletion of Ryan Cameron

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Ryan Cameron requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Rtphokie (talk) 20:23, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello StockMail! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 6 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 475 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
