Question

[edit]

Hello Suugaapio, I'm still quite a noob when it comes to editing Wikipedia. I have much to learn, and I was hoping you'd be willing to help me gain some knowledge. I recently noticed that you removed a Youth Over Flowers addition to Song Minho's wiki page, citing that "Only Mino variety show activities" should be listed on that page and that Winner's participation in YOF has already been included in the group's filmography section. I was wondering if this decision is based off of a consensus in Wikipedia discussions, and if so could you link me to the discussion for me to learn more? I'm curious why an actor's participation as a cast member in a variety show, such as Kang Ha Neul in the first season of YOF, is notable enough to include in his individual page, but not so for a K-pop artist simply because the person is part of a group. Why is Song Minho's being part of the cast in New Journey to the West notable enough to be in his individual page, but him being part of the cast in Youth Over Flowers: Australia is not?

Thanks for your time. I look forward to seeing what you have to say.

Filamjam (talk) 07:49, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Filamjam: No worries at all, asking questions of the uncertainties that one may have is a great way to learn. I too had many uncertainties while editing pages, but through the guidance of many other editors in the community, I learned what to follow and what to avoid in order to adhere to the Wikipedian rules/guidelines. In terms of the decision you have mentioned, it has indeed been based off a consensus in Wikipedia discussions. I believe it started from here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea/Popular culture#Eradication of variety show sections. Once the majority ruled its verdict, the editors went through pages eliminating such shows they deemed unfit from the filmography section. I agree you made a good point, but because the decision has been reached by the majority, we must follow it. YOF cannot be listed in their individual filmography sections because the cast itself was ‘WINNER’ as a whole, they didn’t appear individually unlike Kang Ha Neul from the first season. This is the same reason as to why the member's ‘Half Moon Friends’ appearance was not listed in their individual filmography as they appeared as WINNER, same goes for ‘WINNER TV’. But for Kim Jinwoo, you’ll see ‘Wizard of Nowhere’ listed in his filmography section as he appears as an individual, same goes for Mino’s appearance in NJTTW and Seungyoon’s appearance in Flower Crew as a cast member. So to summerise individual activities = individual filmography section; group activities = group filmography section.

Hopefully that made sense and cleared up any questions you had on the matter, in my case I simply follow the rules/guidelines and what others have started.

Hello, thanks for reminding me and sorry to say this but why are some groups entering awards that TREASURE also got but not included in the awards list? for example like the "mubeat awards", the other group that got it listed the achievement on wikipedia, sorry for my ignorance but please tell me well, thanks for your time. MOODMAKER12 (talk) 14:48, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MOODMAKER12: Hey! Thanks for stopping by on my talk page. If any other pages are listing awards that aren't deemed notable, it must be removed in order to adhere the guidelines of this website. Perhaps those pages have a lack of experienced editors watching the page hence the additions go by unnoticed. In regards to the "Mubeat Awards", you're right and I'm glad you brought it to my attention. I believe the citation was from an unreliable source hence removed in spurt of the moment (while adding sources do double check if it's reliable or unreliable first). I'll include it in the table with a better source. If you have any other enquires feel free to ask. Suugaapio (talk) 23:29, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for the answer. I'm just a fan to trying my best for promote my favorite TREASURE, so I including some awards that are not listed while other groups are included. I'm so gladd for sure founding the right person that I can upgrade my knowledge about this. Have a nice day. MOODMAKER12 (talk) 04:46, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

I think we shouldn't put Bobby under Mino's main biography it's enough in Discography page. Why u edited back? Bobby's wiki doesn't even mention Mino or Mobb in his main bio explanation page. Do the same. Nava9099 (talk) 08:49, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for sharing your opinion on the matter, Mobb is simply mentioned because this was a milestone in Mino’s career. It’s something one simply cannot erase as it is a fact. Wikipedia is a place where edits are formed through a neutral perspective. I checked Bobby’s page and it seems there’re a few minor edits that need to be made (adding citations and balancing WP:NPOV). Suugaapio (talk) 04:50, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Undo on Blackpink discography.

[edit]

Hello!

I would just like to know why my changes to the US sales for Kill This Love in Blackpink discography were reverted. The source I submitted is from Billboard and states it charted with 19,000 equivalent album units. I'm just confused because on the source linked for the US sales of Square Up (EP) uses the number of equivalent album units as well, which is 14,000.

I am new to Wikipedia editing so maybe I am missing something. Zodiarkbp (talk) 14:56, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! I truly appreciate that you've come here to ask of your inquiry. In terms with the US Sales, I too myself was a bit confused at first because of the choice of wordings the articles suggested, hence why I decided to cross reference with other similar articles from Billboard for better understanding. The term "equivalent album units" are not pure album sales as they're also combined with streaming units. I believe for Square Up, there were no figure given for traditional album sales hence the equivalent album units had to do, but for Kill This Love, the traditional album sales are specifically mentioned (these are your pure album sales). I'll provide you with some articles you can compare with yourself for better understanding.[1][2][3][4] The main point is to look out for the term "traditional album sales", these are the figures to note down unless it's not specifically mentioned then that's a different story. As Kill This Love has yet to be released in the physical form into the market, I believe there will be more sales to note down with time. Hopefully this helped! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions Suugaapio (talk) 02:05, 20 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Blackpink discography

[edit]

Hi. Wouldn't it be better to put it all together in their discography without putting the bar for Japanese EPs? So we put everything together so we don't separate them. In order: Blackpink, Square Up and Kill this love. Arianatoreblink (talk)

@Arianatoreblink Hey! Thanks for leaving your thoughts, I believe sometime back in June - July 2018 a discussion regarding whether to remain the format of separating regions and listing them in a chronological order or removing the language headers and listing them in a chronological order was made. The result was to remain as it is (keeping the language headers). Although there are many discography pages that do not use the language headers, it still needs to be implemented unless another discussion/consensus is reached on the matter. I do believe dividing the regions with a header is important as a flow in both aspects is maintained while keeping the chronological order of that region. This is probably not the answer you're looking for but I hope it helped you understand why it's maintained, if you have any more questions feel free to ask. Blackpink dvd live

[edit]

Hi, are you sure the concert album in Seoul is a live album? Arianatoreblink (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:08, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Arianatoreblink Hey, to be specific the digital version of the Blackpink Arena Tour 2018 is considered a live album but the physical version is a "video album" as the formats are in DVD and Blu-ray (the physical version is what charted). The same goes for the [In Your Area] Seoul DVD, only difference is this doesn't have a digital version as of now hence it's not a live album but it falls under the "video album" category just like the other thus they're listed together. Hope that made sense! I recommend looking through Big Bang videography as an example or others (also live albums are always in the CD and Digital Download format that's how you identify/separate them). Suugaapio (talk) 02:31, 11 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I removed the live album parameter and I put in the video albums. It's okay now? Arianatoreblink (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:48, 14 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yup it's absolutely fine now, thanks for your edit. Suugaapio (talk) 02:05, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping an eye out

[edit]

Hi, I noticed your edit here on iKon discography. Thanks for reverting that user who merged Korean and Japanese albums into a single section. After analyzing their edits, I have determined that they are a sockpuppet of Orentbyte, and have blocked the account. I blocked the latter a few months ago for ignoring consensus on this matter. If you see any users who edit in a similar fashion in the future, please feel free to bring them to my attention. ƏXPLICIT 11:23, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for alerting me on the matter I greatly appreciate it. That would explain why it suddenly became quiet on multiple discography pages (particularly Blackpink discography) as I wasn't aware the user Orentbyte was blocked. I most certainly will, thanks always for your hard work on maintaining a systematic order here on Wikipedia. Suugaapio (talk) 01:24, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

[edit]

Hi, would you help me expand the voice Kill This Love? I would be truly grateful. Then Japanese sales should be added to their discography. Ghostintears (talk) 21:02, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ghostintears, I'd be more than happy to help you out but first could you please provide me with reliable sources stating that "Kill This Love -JP VER-" is a studio album? Because as far as I'm aware, it was stated as an EP (refer here: [1]). I'd be grateful if you can do this first and if no reliable sources are found, unfortunately I may have to revert your actions later in time. Thanks. Gaon Chart

[edit]

Hi, by chance do you know what was the maximum position of the Blackpink album 2018 'In Your Area' Seoul by Blackpink? --Ghostintears (talk) 09:59, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ghostintears Hey! Blackpink 2018 Tour [In Your Area] Seoul did not chart on Gaon hence probably why you weren't able to find it charted (if it charts you can find it on the albums chart). However, it did chart on Hanteo (Gaon's equivalent in South Korea) and sales were recorded, but Wikipedia only uses Gaon as a source and not Hanteo therefore there is no charting position. If you have any other questions feel free to ask anytime! Suugaapio (talk) 04:09, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kugou sales

[edit]

I noticed that you added the note regarding KuGou "Sales of releases prior to 2017 are found in "The [Best Selling Songs List]" to Big Bang's discography page. I assume that you paid for the service so I was wondering if there are download sales for other artists available? (Ex. Blackpink, Twice, SNSD, 2NE1, Suju, WG, etc.) ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 20:04, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nkon21: In regards to your inquiry, 99.9% of the list is dominated with domestic releases in which the remaining foreign acts who are Korean include BB and Korean Drama OSTs (ex. Descendants of the Sun). If I happen to come across sales data for other Korean acts' older releases on the platform, I'll remind myself to ping you or edit them in myself. As you did not do so at Big Bang discography. Updating the sales citation next to the peak doesn't count, and for readers looking for how the peak is sourced from the top down, they wouldn't know to look there. Thank you. Ss112 05:03, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Treasure Jihoon's Page

[edit]

Hello, it seems like Jihoon's wikipedia page has been marked with a notability tag. I was wondering if articles about him being an MC in inkigayo and those about the current program Idol Ramyeonators would be enough to help with that? I was reading about the notability tag and it seems that pages flagged with this can be up for deletion. So I wanted to ask if there is a way to avoid that. I didn't know who to talk to about this, and saw it was you who created the page so turned to you about my queries. Regardless thank you for creating the page and your contributions towards maintaining it. LextonA (talk) 12:20, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@LextonA: Indeed the notability tag has recently come to my attention, which I agree on with the current state of the page. The page was created after reviewing the guidelines and deeming him as "notable" per his solo endeavors and WP:BANDMEMBER (this is what he falls under). The page simply needs to be more developed as he has been significantly covered through articles on Naver (so yes his hosting position and his fixed role on the tvN program would need to be added). Would've been better if he were to have participated in a solo endorsement, philanthropic deed, or achieve a credit on KOMCA for there to be no questions but with his current activities, he only barely just made it (from the way I see it). So for the time being don't worry about his page possibly being up for deletion, it just needs to be more developed. If you have any other queries, feel free to ask. Baby Monster

[edit]

Hi! I was wondering if I could revert the Baby Monster page back the most recent way I edited it. I would of course keep certain references such as the name almost being used for Blackpink, but parts such as the ‘Iyah’ appearance are phrased oddly, and since none of the members are officially confirmed, the member portion of the infobox is unnecessary, at least for now. My version mentioned two contestants from Youth With You 2, introducing themselves as members of the group back in February 2020, and I think that’s important.

Thank you! Beulagpinkeu (talk) 16:09, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Beulagpinkeu: Greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. The member portion in the info box was meant to be hidden; however, another user was kind enough to correct it which solves that part of your query. Content mentioning the two contestants fall under WP:NOR hence why it was removed and cannot be re-added in the way it was initially worded. There is still a way for you to mention them without it going against the guideline. I have come across articles which speculate Wang Siyu and Wei Chen as possible contenders for the group (alongside Kang Seo-jin) so in the second paragraph of the first section after detailing the members' pre-debut activities, their names can be briefly mentioned without going too into depth as possible trainees speculated to debut. As for the mention of "Iyah", without the mention of the members' activities, it does look odd at this point in time; however, it falls under pre-debut activities in which was correctly sourced so when re-worded, it will be fine. If you have any other queries or wish to discuss any other matters, feel free to ask! Suugaapio (talk) 23:21, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I'm currently trying to make the article more concise and cohesive, and I had the idea to move the Joynews24 survey to the 'Public image section since it was a survey on the public's most anticipated musicians. What do you think?
Beulagpinkeu (talk) 17:45, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Beulagpinkeu: Indeed it's fine to move the content to the 'Public image' section as it falls under an "either / or" situation where it's both pre-debut and public image material (although, it's better fitted in the latter) so the shift works best for the page. I've also noticed a minor change made in regards to the "reality program", the wording of the sentence now falls under [[WP:CRYSTAL]] (as you wrote "expected" and since there's still little to no information regarding this), and the mention of ''WIN: Who is Next'' and ''YG Treasure Box'' is [[WP:NOR]] (unless you're able to find a reliable source that explicitly states this - the mention of the programs were practical so I viewed the addition as a nice touch, but the guideline ...). All the more since the content itself hasn't aired so the format of the show is still unknown (at this stage; even if we have a rough idea wikipedia is all about sources which complicates things). If you'd like to rephrase it yourself, that'd be great, otherwise I'll have to edit the sentence accordingly. Everything else was fine! Suugaapio (talk) 23:25, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have an idea on how I could rephrase the sentence? Also, since we don’t know the exact genres nor public image (since the members still aren’t confirmed, nor do they have any endorsements, for now, do you think it would be best to remove the Public image and Artistry sections altogether? Beulagpinkeu (talk) 00:13, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Beulagpinkeu: Perhaps simply removing the term "expected" should be fine, so : " [...] training period was chronicled into a reality program documenting the formation of the group." When there're more sources out, you can change the sentence accordingly to however you wish. In regards to the other queries, I believe keeping the public image section is alright considering it's something that has been widely published on; however, the artistry section can be removed or hidden considering there has been no follow up material since its first mention and like you said, no releases to base it on. Suugaapio (talk) 03:37, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

But ‘was’ makes it sound like the program is already released when it is not as of now? Apologies for so many questions, but I’m confused. Beulagpinkeu (talk) 03:44, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Beulagpinkeu: No worries! Ask as many questions as you like if you have any, discussions always leads to eye openers. In reference to the source, it was filmed and created the year before hence why past tenses are used. Nothing of its release (other than it "coming soon") has been cited hence the only thing that can be mentioned is its creation, if that makes sense. In all honesty, I'd recommend to simply erase the sentence for the time being until a date of its airing is released as the sentence would be oddly written no matter how it's rephrased. Completed both tasks - please check it out and tell me your thoughts. Thanks for all your help! Beulagpinkeu (talk) 05:14, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Beulagpinkeu: Page definitely adheres to the guidelines more in comparison to before! It can now only be further developed with news in the coming future. Suugaapio (talk) 05:40, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just now edited the article to fix some references' grammatical errors, and I ended up removing the part where it states that Yang Hyun-suk is the group's executive producer. I did see a few articles about that, but when you think about it, every group under YG is executively advised by him in some fashion. Just to reduce redundant info. :) I hope that is okay. @Beulagpinkeu: I see, the template of the reference normally has one "title" bracket and a "trans-title" bracket if needed, but now there's two: "title=" and "script-title=ko:" ahaha. Yang Hyun-suk being the group's executive producer is more hands on as it meant creating the group from choosing the members, its concept and image, and more. Adding the information was more so implying he was the creator of the group, but it's not material that has to be published so there's no harm in removing it or keeping it. If you wished to reduce redundant info, it could also be done with the mention of the creation of its YouTube channel as opening a social media platform would be considered trivial in terms of the weight of its career etc. (just putting the thought out there). Done! I agree and I only did that just to help differentiate that the video posted was not the only thing established for the group that day. Thank you, article partner! (since it seems we’re the most active 😁)
