Welcome

[edit]
Hello, Teh tennisman/Archive1, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. Check out the Simplified Ruleset. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at the Guide to layout, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — if you have any questions, or just want to say hello, feel free to contact me on my Talk Page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

RfA

[edit]

I think you should withdraw this. You can do so at anytime.Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 01:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should continue to edit and just see how things go.. Showing a declaration of intent to become an admin is often seen poorly by others. you can study the past RfAs of course.Blnguyen | rant-line 02:57, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflicted) Your request for adminship is very unlikely to succeed due to your low number of edits, which suggest that you may not know Wikipedia policies very well. Hence, I'd advise you to withdraw your request by removing it from the WP:RFA page, and/or indicating your withdrawal on your nomination page. Regards, Kimchi.sg 01:09, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... for now, my advice is, just continue to edit. You may take a look at the successful RfAs to see what the candidates have done. Kimchi.sg 02:30, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have now been autoblocked by User:Naconkantari twice in a week. What have I done and how can i be rid of it?

Well you personally haven't been autoblocked by anyone, your IP has. Details on the autoblocker can be found here, unless you can stop the people sharing your IP address from vandalising (or whatever they've been doing) then autoblocks will happen. --pgk(talk) 12:57, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Project updates
Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements!

WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas:

  • An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style)
  • Evolving lists into regular articles
  • Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections)
  • Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members
  • More to come

These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles.

Things to do
There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving!
Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives
Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.
Article evolution

As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort.

For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article.

Sounds confusing, eh? It won't, for examples will be popping up left and right in the near future!

Signed...

Friend, let us not be silly about this. You have been in Wiki for some time, and must know as well as I di that articles about non-notable persons, which in encyclopedic terms I am afraid you are, do not survive in the encyclopedia. Your request for adminship

[edit]

Hi there, Tennisman!

I noticed your RFA while on new pages patrol.

I think your intention and expressed sentiment are both noble and admirable. However, I feel I should probably tell you that there is little chance that your RFA will pass, but not for precisely the reasons you anticipate.

First of all, of your roughly 400 edits, none of them are admin-like tasks, like reverting vandalism - about 100 of them are editing your user page. As far as I can tell, you've never tagged something for deletion. Therefore, I'm puzzled as to why you want the admin tools. Perhaps reading WP:ADMIN will help you understand what adminship entails.

Your opposition is going to come from the fact that you display little or no knowledge of Wikipedia policy.

If you would like to be an admin, I strongly suggest you take part regularly in XfDs (WP:AFD, WP:TFD, WP:MFD, etc), help mediate (see WP:3O), and revert vandalism (watch Special:Recentchanges and join RC Patrol). That way, people will begin to trust you and will discover your (hopefully rather extensive) knowledge of Wiki policies.

As of right now, there's simply nothing to judge your knowledge of policy on. RfA !voters need to see you in action, doing admin-like tasks, before they feel safe supporting you.

If you need anything, please let me know. I hope to see you around soon! :) Srose (talk) 17:06, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Aaron! Let me start of by telling you that I wasn't the youngest admin. Ilyanep became an admin when they were 13 and crowned...errr... made a bureaucrat when they were 14. Sango123 and 1ne also became admins at an earlier age than mine. Secondly, I would recommend you reduce your sig length. It really takes up space in the edit window. And thirdly, best of luck in your endeavour, though I would advise you not to covet adminship. --May the Force be with you! Shreshth91 04:15, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.
