Userboxs

[edit]

But did Jimbo put forward the idea of the german solution? It's like people can be against abortion, and for only overturning roe vs. wade leaving it up to the states, instead of a total ban on it. --Rayc 19:40, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

fair use image on your userpage

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I removed a fair use image that was on your user page. Please see the guidelines set forth by User_page#What_can_I_not_have_on_my_user_page.3F for specific details. Thanks -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 16:13, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that the same goes for Image:Rock Lee.jpg which is in a userbox that you have created. Unfortunately userboxes are not permitted to use fair use images either, see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Userboxes#Remove_all_fair_use_images_from_userboxes. Please take the time to remove the image from your userbox/user space. Thanks -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 16:19, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, vandalism??

[edit]

I didn't vandalize your userpage, that must have been my brother logged in an IP add. See your history page. Weirdy 08:35, 13 May 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Uh, no worries. I saw that, it was the joke page, right? I "vandalised" it because the user, old windy bear did too. I didn't know it was vandalism Weirdy 08:51, 13 May 2006 (UTC)>.[reply]

My RFA

[edit]
Hi The Gerg/archive 3,

Thank you for supporting my RFA! Unfortunately it did not succeed mainly because most opposers wanted me to spend more time on Wikipedia. Thank you for your faith in me & looking forward to your continued support in the future.

Cheers

RE:Questions

[edit]

Hello! I hope you are doing fine. No, I am not an admin yet but I wish to become one in the future. I was recently nominated and the result of my nomination was not successful. That nomination ended on April 18 2006. It has now been nearly one month and I feel that it is too soon to go for another nomination. Perhaps you can nominate me in early June 2006, but not now. Thank You for your kind attention. --Siva1979Talk to me 19:41, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox Wars

[edit]

I've been concerned that Cyde was coming dangerously close to disrupting Wikipedia to make a point. I'm glad someone else has the same feeling. I've tried to discuss it with him on his talk page but I get no response, which is not in keeping with the best traditions of Adminship as I see it. I'd like to discuss the options available to us (& like-minded others) to get Cyde (& those of similar opinion) to take a break from this flood of userbox deletions, since I can't seem to reach him. He's also trying to get a bot request approved so he can further speed up the userfying of userbox templates. Whichever way the final policy goes, if these folks do enough deletions beforehand, it won't matter much. I just think they need to wait until we have a consenssus policy.--Ssbohio 03:34, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your comments on my talk page, part of what bothers me is this entry from his request for adminship:
I'd just like to make one thing clear: I've never deleted a userbox and I don't forsee myself getting involved with that in the future. Why? Because I now realize that my actions weren't helping matters, so I've decided not to get involved with that anymore. There's plenty other stuff to do on Wikipedia. I'll leave the userboxes up to other people. --Cyde Weys 20:43, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If he's leaving the userboxes up to other people, what is he doing effectively mass-deleting them, albeit one by one? So far, I've been counseled to take it to WP:AN, but I really think Cyde is trying to do the right thing. It's just that his perception of the right thing is clogging TfD with userboxes & short-circuiting the consensus-building process going on elsewhere. Once he chops down all the userboxes, it'll be a moot point what we, as a community, decide to do.
Lastly, as for trolling... I sure hope my comments on his talk page didn't look like trolling. I don't want to debate the merits of userboxes outside of the process for setting the policy. I just want him to consider stepping back from the path he's currently on in tyhe interest of respecting the process.--Ssbohio 04:22, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

[edit]
Thank you, The Gerg, for voting in my RFA. It closed with a final result of 75/1/0. Now that I am an administrator here, I will continue to improve this encyclopedia, using my new tools to revert vandalism, block persistent vandals, protect pages that have been vandalized intensively, and close AFD discussions. Any questions? Please contact me by adding a new section on my talk page. Again, thanks to all of you who participated!!! -- King of 23:15, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]
Welcome, The Greg, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, Titoxd, JoanneB, and Freakofnurture.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me by my talk page, Celestianpower by email or talk page, or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users on our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, please see the IRC Tutorial, which was written by one of our members. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Thanks! G.He 16:30, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If we really wanted to stop vandalism, why not protect all pages? On second thought, forget about being a wiki, lets make Wikipedia into Encyclopædia Britannica Online and get rid of vandalism once and for all!

Seriously though, the main page and the other articles that you've mentioned are protected because they are continually vandalized and thus need to be protected. On the other hand, not all userpages are constantly vandalized, thus not all of them need to be protected. --TBC 22:14, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE:RFA vote

[edit]

Hello, my friend! I hope you are feeling fine! As regards to your question, I DO oppose some votes in RfAs. See the RfAs here and here. There are also some other RfAs which I had opposed. However, the total number of oppose votes I had ever cast is around 4 or 5. The reason, why I voted Sympathy votes for some RfAs is that the candidate will clearly fail in his nomination. I do not wish to pile on the oppose votes and discourage the respective users any further. RfAs can be a very harsh process and many users have left Wikipedia completely because of this. Moreover, I believe that every candidate has some redeeming qualities which deserves a support vote (Of course there are exceptions but these cases are very, very, rare). Whatever, votes I have casted, I always stand by them despite an overwelming opposition. On a personal basis, I do not like to discourage users by opposing them. For example, with regards to your RfA, I sincerely believe that you would be a good admin. Just be patient for a little longer and continue to make quality contributions to Wikipedia. Notice that I did not type in Sympathy for your RfA. Lastly, I was nominated for administration about 2 months back and the result was not successful. Right now, I feel that it is about time to run for administration again and I am waiting for someone to nominate me. If I fail in my second nomination, I will still carry on making quality contributions to Wikipedia. In the time being, I would like to wish you all the best and do not feel discouraged by the absymal performance of your recent RfA! Try again in about two months time. --Siva1979Talk to me 04:08, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your offer on improving my userpage! Actually, I have decided removing my userpage from the candidates list; I plan adding some content to it in the near future - there's no use in improving the design of an ampty page, after all. So, maybe I'll be accepting your offer then? (PS: Sorry for taking 4 days to answer you) Rudá 13:03, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How could we rewrite the article to make it more about Austin Powers and less about sex(Wikipedia info by the way.)? The Gerg 01:36, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's a discussion about it at the DelCom talk page, if you wanna vote on it. Funnybunny (talk/Counter Vandalism Unit) 01:39, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trading Spaces program and WP:UPH

[edit]

Hello The Gerg. I noticed recently on Esperanza's Trading Spaces program that you were listed as a member renovating another's userpage. I am here to tell you that the Trading Spaces program has left Esperanza and has merged into WikiProject User Page Help. WikiProject User Page Help is a new WikiProject designed to help Wikipedians with the technical side of Wikipedia, HTML codes, markups, etc. It has been discussed and the Trading Spaces program has been merged into the our new WikiProject. I have also come to invite you to our new project. If you would like to become a member, feel free to add your name to the list of participants. Whether you join or not, you're still free to join the Trading Spaces program. Cheers! — The King of Kings 22:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update

[edit]

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for signing up to help out with admin coaching. Your first trainee is SP-KP. Your fellow coach is (aeropagitica). I suggest you start off by introducing yourself to your trainee, and sort out details like coaching location (I find a central user subpage, and sometimes IRC depending on practicalities, the best). Hi. Thanks for getting in touch. Definitely still interested, though no rush. Cheers SP-KP 19:34, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You wanted me to come to you about Cyde's actions

[edit]

Well, here I am... Cyde deleted a user subpage of mine & moved another over the top of it. To my mind, he had no business doing either. Another admi, who asked not to be identified, emailed me the contents of the deleted page. What can I do about Cyde, as he seems entirely recalcitrant with regard to acting within policy? --Ssbohio 02:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Out of process deletion

[edit]

When I first discovered Kelly Martin/B, I copied it to a user subpage, Ssbohio/B (history logs). I also created Ssbohio/BB (history logs) to do more work on Kelly Martin's concept of listbuilding. Along comes Cyde who deletes B and moves BB to B with the comment (Proper naming scheme). I raised an objection on his talkpage, and Cyde moved B back to BB (where it started), leaving the comment (User wants another name). I asked again on his talkpage that the original B be undeleted. He responded that he wouldn't undelete the page because he didn't like my attitude.

Cyde cites no policy in support of his action. Can you restore these pages as they were before Cyde tinkered with them? If not, what am I supposed to do? Thanks for your attention, & I'd appreciate a reply on my talkpage. If not, I can check back here. --Ssbohio 03:04, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your comments to my talk page

[edit]

The Gerg, it may have been rude of me to jump to conclusions about you and Funnybunny, but it is more rude for you to show up out of the blue and blame me for your recent Wikistress. My three month old opinion is just that, my opinion, and if you thought it was incorrect you should have just ignored it (like I thought you did when you deleted my comments from your talk page). I am not an influential or high profile user around here, so it's not as though not getting my mark of approval was going to spell doom for anybody here on Wikipedia. Indeed, I was impressed when I saw you around a few times after our exchange and noticed that you were a productive, good-faith editor. Hopefully you agree that your RfA nominations (both given and accepted) were probably all way premature, and one of the problems with inexperienced users wanting adminship is that they usually don't actually know what adminship is before they ask for it -- they just see a lofty title and decide it would be nice if they had it. That's what caused me suspicion, to see you two who know each other in real life wanting adminship so bad and not being sure that you weren't up to mischief.

By the way, I have never accused you of being a "meatpuppet" and I'm not sure you even know the correct meaning of the word. Indeed the only time I used the word "sockpuppet" was on Funnybunny's RfA when I was talking, not necessarily about you, but about people I thought might vote for his support. At that time I was not sure who among the QRVS were legitimate users and who were not. Apparently I was wrong and you and Funnybunny don't play with sockpuppets. You knew that all along, so what I said should never have upset you. — GT 19:06, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, it happens. I'm sorry our introduction has had to come like this, but hopefully it's all behind us now. Let me know if I can do anything for you in the future. — GT 22:23, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

My RfA

[edit]

Thank You for nominating me and I have decided to run for adminship after two weeks of consideration. In your nomination statement, you stated that However, most issues have been cleared up. In question four of my nomination, Dlohcierekim wants to know which issues are not resolved yet. Can you please enlighten me in this matter as your opinion would be greatly appreciated. You can reply in my talk page. Thank You! --Siva1979Talk to me 17:30, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is OK and I totally understand your situation. Anyway, I wish to thank you for nominating me for adminship. On a side note, I would like to suggest with all humility, that in the future, if you are going to nominate a user who had failed his previous RfA, nominate him/her after a three month period. In that way, the user you are nominating would most likely to succeed in his/her RfA. Of course, there are exceptions to this, but most of thses RfAs end up in failure! Secondly, I wish to state that if you would like to become an admin, submit your contributions for an analysis at ER. I will also most likely nominate you for adminship in about a few months time as well! Lastly, as a friendly advise, I hope you remove this userbox, This user is not a Wikipedia administrator but would like to be one from your userpage soon. Based on past experience, many users who are involved in a RfA, frown upon this userbox (Please don't ask me why!). Anyway, I wish you best of luck for the future and hope you realize your dreams on becoming an admin. In the meantime, always look for ways to improve on your edits and have a deep knowledge of Wikipedia policies as well. Hope to hear from you soon. --Siva1979Talk to me 20:37, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your message to me

[edit]

Dear Greg, this is Fleet Command. Regarding your message to me. I'm affraid you made a mistake. I DID NOT modified Iran's human right section. The modification, which you speak of, is made by 71.192.249.163.

This is the modification I made: I added the word "(Farsi)"[1]. Please verify and confirm.

[edit]

Hey! You accidentally put your editor review in the subpage mine was on. I moved your section to its own page, and added it to the Editor Review list. Check it out. Wikipedia:editor review/The Gerg

September Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!

November Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
