Welcome

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome!

Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. -- Tyrenius 19:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:BJ-Human-Condition-B-Det.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BJ-Human-Condition-B-Det.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:05, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Robert Goldwater, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.dictionaryofarthistorians.org/goldwaterr.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 16:56, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merrill Garnett

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Merrill Garnett, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Merrill Garnett. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Underbelly02! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 389 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Heather Ford - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File:Zoe8.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Zoe8.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. —Justin (koavf)TCM06:50, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The image has been declared a copyvio at the discussion listed above. Just because Flickr is incorrect does not mean we can use it. Please do not reupload it again, even by a different name. Copyright violations are not acceptable on Wikipedia under any pretext. An optimist on the run! 10:47, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry: flickr is not incorrect -- the image has a CC BY SA license: It has been licensed by its author as such.. On what basis are you assuming this is a copyright violation?? Y0u are in error, not flickr! please re-instate the image. Or at least explain what steps are necessary that haven't already been taken (re: what is wrong with the CC license?). I'll try again: this file is a photograph authored/shot by the artist Bill Jones: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bill-jones/6500209975/ who licensed it in flickr with a CC BY SA license; the image also appears on Bill Jones' site http://palladiomovie.com for his project "Palladio" starring Zoe Lister-Jones: http://www.firstpulseprojects.com/palladio/Zoe_Lister-Jones.html So waht is the problem?

I'm not in a positio0n to say whether the screenshot on Flickr is a copyvio or not, but the after the discussion listed above closed as delete, and therefore the file shouldn't be reuploaded. You can appeal against the decision at Wikipedia:Deletion review. You will need to make it clear why the image is indeed CC-BY-SA, when it's clearly a screenshot of a (presumably) copyright film.  An optimist on the run! 19:48, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Incidentally, please don't make changes to closed discussions, such as you did to Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2011 November 15, as it makes it difficult to understand what the arguments were at the time of closure.  An optimist on the run! 19:52, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well that's rich, considering there were no arguments made, just a quick deletion before I ever got to make a case for it. incidentally, the screenshot is by the author of the "film" which is actually a multi-media art performance -- entirely CC BY SA. In any case, it's the author who gets to license his own screenshots, which he did: CC BY SA. Duh. It's his flickr account. As for dealing with Wiki deletion arguments, I've already wasted way too much time with this extremely arbitrary and imperfect system of flagging and deleting by bot-like entities who don't look or listen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.117.195.102 (talk) 20:20, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please note, I was not responsible for tagging the image for deletion, nor closing the the discussion. I'll ask the admin responsible to have another look.  An optimist on the run! 21:23, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you are indeed the copyright holder/owner of this photo, please send an email to our OTRS team, stating that you agree to the release of the photo under the CC-BY-SA license and that you are indeed the copyright holder of this file. Once the email is processed the file will automatically be restored. For detailed instructions on how to do this, please see WP:PERMISSION and WP:DCP -FASTILY (TALK) 22:19, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay -- got it. thanks, much appreciated. Will relay the info to the author. Cheers from the mopey sad miserable underbelly User: Underbelly02.

The article Merrill Garnett has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No notability; the most citations any paper has gotten is 18, mostly by himself. The book isn;t even in worldcat

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nomination of Poly-MVA for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Poly-MVA is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Poly-MVA until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Salimfadhley (talk) 21:01, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring warning

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Poly-MVA shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
